Spotted this in the dicksmith catelog today, nice price for 40 inches. On the site it says offer ends today but the catelog ends on the 27th so plenty of time to get one, that is if stocks hold.

hmm I wonder with quite a few cheap deals now what we'll get next fortnight on boxing day?

also, do people know how the PVR on this works? Does it work just like a normal hdd pvr set top box once you have a usb device plugged in? eg. use epg to setup things to record and it automatically records them even if the tv is on standby?

    • yeah thats true, although i have found that the boxing day sales arnt THAT good…. i guess we have to wait and see.

      • yeah they are usually a waste of time but retail is slow on department stores this year so maybe Myer will want to get some great deals to attract customers. really hoping for a fantastic bargain on the D550 Samsung which was $699, hoping it will go lower ;)

        • The D550 samsung LCD can be had for $525.

        • LCD?? It is Plasma?? Can you show me please

so is this full HD or not

btw 349 with woolies staff discount :)

1680*1080 is not 1080P - at least not a standard.

DS 'Specs' tab: "Screen Resolution 1920x1080" "Screen Definition Full High Definition"
Quoted 'overview' tab on DS has a typo. But repeatedly says is Full HD.

Grabbed one yesterday but was too slow to post. Hesitant due to the lack of reviews, but happy with the product.
Not running any HD inputs into it, but TV is clear and WDTV and Foxtel through 5.8GHz wireless is more than watchable.

    • thanks for the review mate!

Personally would rather the Soniq 42" if going to buy a no name

Looks nice with a PS3 running on it in Full HD, comparable to my Sanyo.

  • great price. nice find OP

  • Does anyone know where i can find the dimensions of this tv? I'm not sure if it will fit in my cabinet…

    • 68cm tall by 98cm wide…if that's a snug fit let me know and I'll be more specific

  • Just went down there to grab this from Cockburn in WA. They had the 42" LCD version for $399 so I grabbed that. Only a couple left in stock.

is this an actual brand, or a generic "DSE" brand tv. im assuming their along the same lines as soniq and will die in 6 months.

Rang Dick head Office and they tell me that I can't use the promotional code when picking up in store… anyone had success?

    • That's strange the website allows it…

      • Yeh, But when you come to a store that says low stock - check availability, you come into problems… I rang them, they said yep got 2, but you can't use your code, despite the next store 15km away allowing it… so rang head office and the came up with if you are picking it up at a store you are not buying it online.

      lol @ dickhead office :P

Probably the only company that you can call a bunch of 'dick heads' without getting sued!

    • Did mine no worries, had the email saying that is the price to pick up, they didn't kick up much of a fuss, they had plenty though, Capalaba QLD

    • That's not true. You are still buying it online just picking it up in store.

I have done it and used the same coupon code on another product and it's fine.

Macquarie Centre DSE - North Ryde, Sydney.

Head office have it wrong and you should argue it out. As if it's within their interest to fork out for couriering the damn thing to you on top of the good deal you are getting. They just lose more money.

  • This promo ad came on TV when I was eating dinner and the food spew out of my mouth all over my new $400 Soniq brand TV. Time to replace it with one of these bad boys.

I got the 42" yesterday and I'm very pleased. Looks great with the Apple TV running through it. My only complaint is that their online store is terrible. They took over two weeks to deliver it and were extremely rude over the phone.

  • Wait, so can we use the promo code when we buy it instores, instead of ordering it online???

  • I also went for the upgrade to the 42" http://dicksmith.com.au/product/GE6810/dick-smith-42-quot-fu… only $374.99 with free online delivery using coupon code K24XDH863L. Hopefully its delivered soon.

    • mmmm, for some reason i can't add that one to cart… is their site having issues atm?

      • @figarow - I see what you mean I tried over and over to add it to my cart with no luck but eventually found a way. simply use the search box near the top and input "dick smith 42 lcd tv" and you will get a few results with a this model being about the 2nd on the list. Dont click full view just click add to cart from the search results and viola.. then click view cart / checkout and use promo code mentioned above and you get the price for $374.99 delivered. Good luck.

        • Ok got it but…. Not sure if i'm doing something wrong but it costs more, on the first screen of the payment process it says $374.00 but on the second screen it says this:

          Item Subtotal $399.00
          Delivery $ 24.95
          Christmas Bonus -$25.00

          Total $398.95

Then….. on the final payment screen i get this:

          Error:

We apologise however multiple offers, promotions or promotional vouchers cannot be used in conjunction with each other. The most beneficial offer, promotion or promotional voucher has been applied to your order.

EDIT: I think they have messed with the process because for some reason i can not choose pickup as an option anymore… which really sucks!

  • hmmm thats odd, I am not sure why thats happening as I just went through a dummy order and I am at the final payment screen ready to pay for a total including delivery of $374.

Perhaps your browser has the cookies stored from a previous coupon code its sounds, if you have a new browser ie: Switch from Chrome to Firefox or Internet Explorer, either one just a new browser, or try clearing your cookies if you know how, and try the steps above.

Unless, are you in a remote area? I live close to Sydney CBD so maybe I just get free delivery I'm not sure if you qualify for it?? If you do qualify for free delivery then its sounds like you just need to clear your cookies.

    Good luck.

  • How unbelievable! I've secured this deal since Monday and only arrived this morning with a 2 dead pixels! Is it a bad batch or I'm just being unlucky? I have contacted Dick online support, they said they would do an exchange for it. Guess I have to wait another few more days for the swap. Bugger!

    • Prob second hand stock lol

  • Thanks guys!

I had put in the order for pick up and the receipt said $343 but the email they sent afterwards said $368.
Showed them the receipt at the George st. Sydney store and the nice staff there got me the deal. They have them in the store if you want to take a look before deciding.

It is huge! But it can be carried on your head if you can hold your arms up for a while.
Nothing wrong with mine, it's all working fine, I am typing this out on it right now.

    • Carried on your head, like an african?

      • Yes, like an African.
It's too big to drag around with just arms. I tried that for a few blocks then I put it on my head and it was much easier.

        • Nice that you can use it as an umbrella since it has been raining a lot in Sydney :)

  • Hi all, I tried ordering the TV today and the code doesnt seem to work anymore. Does anyone has another working code? Thanks
