Great price for a solid manual coffee grinder with actual ceramic burrs from a reputable brand in the coffee game. Container can hold up to 100g of coffee which makes it great to prepare enough grind for french press coffees.

For price comparison;
Jasper coffee is selling it online for $99.95 (free delivery)( seen in store for around $75)

Alternativebrewing is selling it for $74.90+delivery

  • Anyone able to compare this to the Porlex Mini?

  • +7

I was eyeing this model not too long ago but decided to go with the Timemore C2, hell lot more of a grinder for only $20 more.

    • What's your grind settings for filter? I've got the slim but am struggling to tune in a good grind

      • Depends on the bean I just aim for a 2.5 Min extraction including 45 second bloom

    • Where are you seeing it for that price? Currently 105 at Amazon

      • +1

It's a Chinese brand so naturally, Aliexpress.

  • I have a grinder similar to this, however when I use it a chunk of bean gets stuck between the two grinding faces and forces the inner one to shift to the side. That makes a super coarse grinds near the side where the bean got wedged, and insanely fine grind on the other side.

Pretty confusing explanation haha, but does anyone have this problem/have solved it? Don't just want to buy another grinder and hope for the best.

    • +10

Yep, It's a common problem with these grinders and it's because they're only anchored at 1 point.
When I used this grinder, I got a piece 3d printed that you insert above the burr that holds it in place. Made it 100x better.
I'll see if I can dig it up on thingiverse.

[edit: not the one I used, but same principle.

I won't benefit from this whatsoever, but have an upvote for your inginuity : )

      • The fact that we can just print things to solve problems now is epic, the future is here

      • Damn bruh. Legend!

      • What are you charging to get one of these made up?

        • +2

Still trying to convince the wife in the benefits of a 3d printer…
When I had it made, I found someone on makexyz who printed it for a couple of bucks. That was 5 or so years ago though…

          • @NigelTufnel: Wow, that is amazing. How would I be able to get this printed myself? I've never experienced 3d printing and it's requirements before. I can see you've got a diagram. Is that all I need?

            • @Fluid Head:

              • Download the stl file.
              • Find someone with a 3d printer (I used makexyz, but there's probably other ways eg. 3dhub, gumtree, OzBargain?).
              • Send them the file to be printed.
  • Hows it for espresso?not good I guess?

    • Won't go fine enough for a proper espresso grind.

      • Any idea what would be an ideal hand grinder to use as a secondary one when I feel like having a decaf? Less than 2 3 times a week.

        • Depends how much you want to spend.

          • @shiny1: We're on ozb so the cheapest possible but I still want a good grinder

            • @ets27: Honestly, I got a shitty Daiso one for less than 10 bucks for me to use at work. My main is a Lido E, so it's a huge price and quality difference. But I don't care as much when I need a fix at work.

              • @shiny1: Really? Does it grind fine enough for espresso?

  • +2

I know probably not for coffee aficionados but if you're looking for a simple coffee grinder, daiso now sells one for only $8.80

    • I'd argue that it's better for espresso than for french press, as it grinds more consistently at the finer settings.

      • Oops. Replied to wrong comment.

  • This or breville smart grinder?

    • They are really two different things… but in terms of grinding coffee, the Breville will definitely give you a better and more consistent grind if that's what you are after.

You probably need to ask yourself questions like… are you prepared to spend ~$160 on a grinder? Do you need something portable or not? How often would you need to grind your own beans? etc etc

  • Personally I don’t want to have to wait ten minutes to manually grind my coffee first thing in the morning.
I picked up a sunbeam burr grinder for about $70, yes sometimes the coffee gets stuck in the chute and you have to give it a smack to loosen, but in all other respects it’s perfect.

  • Can improve this model with this improvement kit although expensive for us in AU.

  • Hi Guys,

This looks cool but you will get sore arm,
and you have to ask your wife to grind coffee one day
and she will not like you anymore
