Need Advice on Laptop for School - Budget $1500

So my kid's 2 year old Dell died on the weekend. As they are in final year of high school want to replace it with something that will be good for Uni as well.

The laptop was a 2 in 1 Dell Inspiron. This is the only Dell that hasn’t had a warranty issue.

Minimum requirements

• Windows 10 – natively
• Intel M3 processor
• 11.6” 1366 x 768 resolution, supporting multi-touch
• 4GB DDR3 Memory
• ac/a/b/g/n Wireless
• 256GB SSD Hard Drive
• Up to 9 hours of battery life
• Active Stylus
• Keyboard (removable or attached)

So needs to be a laptop with touch screen and needs to include an active stylus or be compatible with one to buy separately. I would prefer at least 8 GB RAM.

I would prefer something that is a bit more robust than the Inspiron it is replacing.

What happened to the Dell Inspiron?

Replacing parts might be the way to go.

  The backlight on the keyboard continually flashes and it won’t boot up (no fan). Hubby has read up on lots of forums and found similar issues. No dice on anything working.

    Any beeps? Does the LED light flashes? Number of beeps and type of flashes can help diagnose the error.

      No beeps no led light flashes.
      
      Been on phone to dell they say it’s the motherboard. Just waiting for the to approve a free replacement under consumer law. Fingers crossed

        @Aussiemags: Awesome! Don't let them tell you anything else. Just insist under ACL that you expect a laptop to last around 3 years or more.

        If not for your advise I would have forked out for a new computer being none the wiser about consumer law.

Since it’s 2 years, have you considered contacting Dell to claim under ACL? What’s exactly wrong with it?
