  • is it worth an extra $20 for the crucial P2 1T?

    • Possibly, the P2 has a different controller offering better endurance (450TBW vs 200). Also adds TLC instead of cheapo QLC in the P1

    • for $20 more I'd also look at the kingston a2000 and wd sn550 (nvme).

Must resist buying ssd… already out of slots

    • +6

You can't resist a very average price?

      • +2

Can't wait until 2-4GB are around this price

Buy a USB 3.0 m.2 caddy if you have run out of slots or pcie m.2 card from AliExpress for 6 bucks.

  • zippay is $128

every other payment method $129.28 (1% surcharge). smh literally broken

  • This or Kingston A2000?

    • +1

Kingston clearly wins here according to this vid. I own 2 Kingston A2000 and they are fast AF.

      • I chose Kingston for my Pc build. Very happy with speeds

    • Kingston A2000, the Crucial is QLC and the Kingston TLC

    • thanks for asking, guess its kingston… but kingston or evo plus 970?? worth the $50?

  • Centrecom is $129 with free shipping and no weird payment stuff

Amazon has it for $130 it looks like, free delivery

  • Will this fit in the expansion slot inside PS5?

    • +1

My understanding is this will physically fit, but they haven’t released the software to actually use the M.2 slot in there. It’s unsure if Sony will only allow proprietary M.2 drives in there.

Please correct me if I’m wrong though.

iirc Sony can't guarantee what SSDs with what controllers will be up to scratch and they don't want people buying useless SSDs in advance.
It will probably* be like how Nvidia validates freesync monitors, where they periodically tell people which models should work.
All we know for sure is that the M.2 is nvme.
A bunch of companies liked Western Digital and Samsung have already announced future SSD products that will supposedly be compatible, so for peace of mind you're probably best off waiting.

    • It will fit but it can't be used. This is only PCIe gen 3 the PS5 needs PCIe gen 4.

Amazon (via US) has P2 2TB for $291.67 which seems to be a great price

Tried to make new post but an existing expired deal exists, so won't let me

  • What is the best portable/external case for the Crucial P1 1TB 2000MB/s 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD ? I have been looking at a Samsung T5

    • +1

Anything 10gbps will be good. UGreen, Orico, Simplecom are decent brands.

      https://cplonline.com.au/orico-tcm2-c3-bk-nvme-m-2-ssd-usb-3…

I'm not saying these links are cheapest prices / best seller / etc. will have to hunt around to find good deals. I got the Simplecom SE513 from CPL while I was picking up some other stuff in there and it did the job for cloning an old NVME M.2 to a new one in the computer.

The Samsung T5 is a lot slower than the Kingston A2000 (faster than Crucial P1 if you don't already have one) but the case is a more compact form factor being a small square. The Samsung T5 runs an MSATA drive that is basically a white label 850 Evo SSD and isn't the fastest thing around but I love mine.

I recently bought another one to open up and replace the msata drive inside an older ultrabook that was starting to run extremely slow on its Sandisk SSD, turns out you can't buy msata drives directly at retailers anywhere these days.

    I’m over these guys.
    Ordered a 1tb Samsung 860 EVO on 26.12.
    Not a peep from them.
Cannot reach them - covid excuse for not taking calls.
    Dont respond to emails.
Plenty of prior purchases - but really - more than a month with no comms and no comms channels?
    Buyer beware I guess.

    • They're a little bit dodgy with communication but my issues got worked out in the end, although really slow.
Also, I did find a support email from them in the junk / spam mail if that helps you….

      • thanks, mate. there's a little more to the story - I did request a post order address change, which they responded to within a day or two.
since then, 100 emails from me (one day I got fed up and spammed them), but no reply.
        order status still on 'pick'.
so no - not in junk folder.
        just a really shitty service.

  • This and a caddy better than a Samsung T5? probably wouldn't work out cheaper (price beat @ $141)?
