Imagine blowing 8 grand on a TV.

    • +16

Imagine those blowing 10 grand on a black shoulder bag with a C.

      • -8

        Can't really compare.

One is a piece of technology that will depreciate to nothing. It will be obsolete next year and will need to be replaced when it eventually dies or you want the next gen one.
The other is an "overpriced" fashion statement but will last a lifetime if taken care of and has appreciated in value every year. Laugh at those people but at least they have something they can sell off to the next person for a profit or at least what they paid for if they wanted - Oh and they get to enjoy the bag if that's what they are into.

        • +8

I have to say, I was with Fred in that type of thinking until I realised that motlking is correct. Amazingly, the expensive handbags actually do go up. I couldn't believe it but after a friend of mine got into bags it blew my mind that the pricey ones were sold at a profit after a few uses because they were always in demand and people would rather avoid the loing wait times.

          • +6

@Heaps for Cheaps: Its a pretty ridiculous comparison really. A TV gets countless hours of use and enjoyment. The scenario with bags and the types into that "scene" especially for profit is totally different.

        • +11

It's utterly laughable to imply this TV will be obsolete in a year.

          • +1

@Hinee: I agree, I'm sure this though will age poorly but I don't know what people need more from TVs than 4k, OLED panels, 120Hz refresh rate and variable refresh rate. Like yeah, 8K tvs will be the norm soon but I think the general sentiment that 4K is enough for a TV is correct.

        • +3

Just hoping I can get a support from here to justify my opinion to my wife.

      • +1

To be happy with your expensive bag purchase, you need people to look at it and comment - otherwise, in utility, most of the times, they are as good as Cole's reusable bags (rather, coles bag might have more space).

If you are buying a bag for your own pleasure (I look at it and it brings me pleasure), I would like to doubt the motive, but I will accept the argument.

If you are buying it just coz you can, then you should buy the TV as well.

TV, you don't need anybody. You can enjoy yourself for countless hours, anytime you want, early in the morning, late nights, all clothed up, naked… etc etc.

      • Guys guys guys, I spent $8k at the casino and got a 5x return last year, definitely worth it amirite? Ffs

    • +1

Sadly I did when LCD's first came out. I bought a 30" Sharp Aquous way back when (think it was about 2002 or 2003) so this represents good value!

    • and not even a 8K TV!

      4k for $8k…

      • 4k for $8k…

8k TV should be $16k then.

        • +1

          madness

    • +1

I know. $8k. seems excessive to me.

I also found this site interesting in relation to 'bigger is better' thinking:

    • Hey, sorted out that issue with ABB?

      • which one?

    • Hope you paid for them by scalping PS5s?

  • Got this in March for $7000 delivered, from The Good Guys

    • +7

Hi there Booger. Did you post the deal back in March when it was $7k?

      • +2

+1. There's too many people who won't post good deals.

      • +3

Its called haggling. Plenty of people get better deals than these modest regular sale prices. It just takes a conversation in store (or a few stores).

      • +2

We aren’t allowed to post haggled deals. They get removed. I paid $6500 before bonus $500 cashback in June for mine.

        • Exactly the point I am trying to make in response to Booger's comment, which is a moot point if its a haggled deal. Its no different than "Oh I got it for free as my family gave it to me" :)

          • +2

@moo: It’s not a moot point. Because it’s incredibly easy to get a better deal than this. Negging it probably isn’t fair like he has done but making the comment that it can be had much cheaper with a little bit of negotiation isn’t irrelevant.

            • -2

@dwhes: If it's incredibly easy why don't you start offering this as a service? I'de easily pay you $500 to get me the same TV for $6500.

It annoys me these people on the internet such as whirlpool go around saying it's incredibly easy I got 20-25% off my brand new BMW. I'de easily pay someone 5k to go get me 20-25% off a brand new BMW.

Please by all means PM me next time you get an amazing deal on a high priced item. I would love to pay you a finders fee to get me something similarly priced.

              • @MrMoo: Not likely to get $6500 atm as stock is scarce. But I can be certain I would be able to get you a lot lower than $8k. Can annoy you all you want but it doesn’t make it any less true. And I did just negotiate for a new car and was able to get $4k off the price. So again not sure what you’re trying to get it. Sure if you’re not interested in doing a bit of leg work, being prepared to walk away and willing to buy on the spot with a salesman if you get the price or close to you’re after; then no you’re not going to be able to get a better price. But a bit if your time and it is indeed very easy to get lower than a “deal” like this. Different times of the year will equal how much better you can get, but certainly better. And indeed if you want me to get you a 77CX for a lot lower than this, I’m happy to take you up on your offer of $500. Can’t promise $6500 but I am very confident of a lot lower than this price.

                • @dwhes: I grabbed one July last year for 7950. So wish you were around then. The $500 to you and I would of been better off probably lol.

Didn't get the installation but got the delivery.

I guess what I am trying to get at is, I personally take what people claim they got on the internet with a grain of salt. I'm not a master negotiator but nor am i terrible at it. And I find i sometimes find it difficult to believe people are getting what they claim they are getting. I think the TV is maybe a bad example. But there are a lot of whirlpool posts about things which I believe to not be the full truth. And again if it was true then thumbs up to them, but the first sign of "which dealership, or can you get it for me i'll pay you" they just disappear or say it was for a special once off car. I guess cars are my big thing lol.

Back on topic, I do feel like this post is a deal. It's easily accessible and requires little effort didn't deserve the neg.

                  • @MrMoo: Mate I’ve had about 6 people on ozbargain message me in the last 8 months to ask for my receipt as I offered it up to anyone who wants it to help them negotiate. Posted the comment in a previous 77CX deal. And I’ve given it to about the same or more on whirlpool. I’m always happy to help anyone get a lower price. And jeez if people like yourself would pay for such a service, maybe I really should be starting a business. For sure some people are all talk. If I negotiate a deal and it wasn’t through a friend as a favour, I’m always happy to share how and proof. Happy to share my receipt for my new Ford everest that I’ve got $4k off the price when most dealers weren’t prepared to deal much at all. Also whilst this post is technically lower than normal, it’s been shown by others to not be the lowest price atm. Videopro for $7480 is.

    • +3

It has been as low as $6500 according to whingepool

    • +5

Hand in your OzBargain licence :)

I paid $6450 for mine in December at HN simply by haggling. The TV is amazing coming from a 13 year old Panasonic 50" plasma. The only downside (apart from cost) is the new TV can no longer double as a room heater come winter.

Gave the OP's deal an upvote though as retailers have limited stock, huge demand and simply aren't budging on prices in 2021

    8K 4 4K. OK

  • +3

Hi I also walked into Harvey Norman when they were not on sale and was immediately offered $7,000 delivered and installed. needless to say it now sits on my family room wall - looks awesome.

  • -2

A1 77" coming this year, should be cheaper, lower spec, but good for the daily FTA and Netflix style watching.

  • Yep so I payed $6500 with bonus $500 cashback, free install and delivery and a free year of Disney plus in June last year for my 77CX from the good guys… I wouldn’t be paying $8k now just before the release of the new model.

  • $7995 at JB
    $7480 at Videopro

  • I really want to have OLED for our next TV, but my wife said she needs 80”+ to be satisfied correctly :(

    • Lg c1 this year will have a 83inch

    • +2

      That's a big dong

    • +1

Oh I got it, your wife prefer 3 more inches to it.

  • Was less than 6500

  • Worth noting that free installation and delivery isn't exclusive to a particular retailer, it's something LG is including with all their 2020 75"+ size TVs. I also picked this up in April from HN for closer to $5K but this was using an elaborate staff discount from a friend of mine who manages one of the stores. Apparently I was one of the first in Australia to get the 77-inch CX at the time which just meant I was effectively a beta tester for LG until they eventually fixed all my issues (raised blacks/glowing issue on Dolby Vision and HDR content and VRR screen flickering when connected to RTX cards, temperamental eARC etc being my main bugbears). Credit to LG for listening to the community and fixing pretty much everything (eventually) through regular firmware updates. Not something that can be said for any other 2020 TV models sporting HDMI 2.1 (go and see how Sony still hasn't implemented basic HDMI 2.1 features such as VRR and ALLM for the X900H and the long list of issues with Samsung's QLEDs including the inability to run 4K/120Hz with HDR enabled still going on unresolved).

But this also meant that I had to wait until last month (9 months after I bought the TV) until I could truly enjoy the TV without any real faults
Everything runs flawlessly now and it's by far the best investment I've made on a TV and I've bought quite a few in my time. And unless you're planning on stepping up to the G1 series for the brighter OLED panel for much more $$$ when the 2021 models eventually come out in April/May, then there's next to no new features that would make it worth upgrading or waiting for as far as the C1/B1/A1 goes. The CX is still the most futureproof TV you can buy on the market (also still the only TV on the market to boast 4x HDMI 2.1 ports) and I personally won't be upgrading again until microLED (not miniLED) hits consumer friendly price points which is at least another 5 years off.

  • +3

Genuine advice for those who are considering a OLED TV in this price range. Wait until the 2021 models are released as LG announced some bigger improvements than usual with the new models compared to the last few incremental upgrades over the last few years.

This is the information I've gathered from the reviewers and news I have been reading, you can check out more detailed information from HDTVTest channel for example.

I'm waiting for the 42" OLED they announced to use as a desktop monitor + entertainment screen for my room, but that won't have the upgrades coming to the larger screen sizes like 77" and 83" I believe.

    • +1

Usually the new models are released April / May.

Often OK deals around then for the previous years models.

Here's a link some general TV background stuff -

    • To @Hinee above who thinks "It's utterly laughable to imply this TV will be obsolete in a year."

It's laughable that you think that. Being unusable and being on obsolete are two different things. New models will always be around the corner, whether the upgrade is worth it is another thing but it will still be obsolete in no time.

    $7480 + delivery & thats still a rip off

  • This is the definition of affordability! Thanks. Bought a few to stock up!
