Best Price for Sony 55" X9000H 4K UHD ANDROID BRAVIA LED TV?

It was $1499 in November for Black Friday. Wondering if it can be had for cheaper now?

  • Bought one for my parents last week. The picture is really worth the extra $, while it's never going to match OLED, it looks much better then any of the edge-lit models. Parents took one look at picture in-store and decided to buy it.

The thing that really impressed me when I was setting it up was the remote control connectivity. This TV's remote control can actually control (and power on) other devices that are connected to it (Optus Fetch, FireStick, even their ancient PVR/DVD). This meant my parents could go from 5 remotes to just one. It actually works, and they love it.. was like magic.

It also includes Apple Airplay and Google Chromecast straight from the box.

Was quoted $1860 at the Good Guys and $1895 everywhere else. Parents ended up doing the negotiating and paid $1850 including $300 of extended warranty (I advised against this as its covered under Consumer Law, but anyway).

I reckon one could be had for $1,500 if you are willing to really haggle with multiple salespeople.. it should be pretty easy to play them off each other as 4 stores (Good Guys, Hardly Normal, Bing Lee and JB) all offer this model. But to be honest it's worth the ticket price.

Just for your own info, this is HDMI-CEC. It's pretty stock standard in televisions for the past 10 years or so.

They usually just call them something else, but it is the same standard.

Can read about it at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_Electronics_Control

Just in case you were looking for a tv in future and this feature was swaying you to one tv at the cost of some other feature.

      • Fair enough. I just personally never plug any other devices (just use a PC) or use the remote except to turn it on, so I wasn't aware it was common on TV's now. But it makes sense since all the devices had the same connectivity.

        • Pretty cool huh… I use the same remote for PS5 haha.

    • mate I’m surprised it was a haggle? As $1500 was the regular ticket price for Black Friday? Are you talking about the 55"?

thanks so much for your reply too, appreciate it. I haven’t had a TV for a few years so I’m sure it will blow my head off.

Yes the 55". This was in a small town with very limited stock/stores. Only the Good Guys actually had it in stock. As I was only there for 3 days to do the setup there was no choice. Also parents have no issue with money, so they aren't good hagglers :(

We also had to get delivery as Good Guys would not let us lay it down in the boot of parents SUV, without signing our life away. Funny thing is they screwed up the delivery schedule and due to the urgency the salesman ended up delivering it in the boot of his SUV… with it laying down. But it was all good.

One other point, is that all the TV's now have those stupid feet at the edges of the screen. Which is a god awful design, as they need a piece of furniture the entire width of the TV to sit on. Which really limits where you can sit them. To get around this we bought a mountable swivel stand that fixes to the VESA mounts on the back. Only took 5 mins to assemble and mount and much more practical. Got one at Hardly Normal for $150. https://www.harveynorman.com.au/sanus-vuepoint-32-65-inch-ta…

        Good luck

thanks mate. never knew that you can’t lay a TV down in your boot???

          • @rowdyrobbiebuyer: No, you should never lay them down. The glass layers can compress under the weight and "delaminate" causing major picture issues which destroy the TV. They are very fragile, especially the edge lit models (I learned this the hard way), backlit models like this one should be a bit sturdier, but I wasn't going to risk it.

I kept the box for mine and used it when I had to move.

    • while it's never going to match OLED

In a naturally lit bright room it would probably beat OLED

    • Most of the big box stores refuse to provide written quotes now to avoid people playing multiple stores.

My suggestion is to persuade a sales rep to give you the lowest price they could sell in the green for.

Take another hundred or so off that, and that is their stock price.

Since it's a 2020 model, you may well convince someone to sell at that price if they want to move it, but this is a popular model so to be honst you won't do much better than $1500.

      • Okay thanks. And yes, I’d be happy to pay last year’s price of $1500. But won’t be paying more than what they were selling it last year.

        • Keep in mind that the black friday sales were for the 2020 model. All these stores sell their previous models for big discounts around October-November every year. I bought the 2017 model in November 2017 for $1500 (was rrp$2500) myself. This is when you will pick up a bargain and that's why it was $1500 on Black Friday.
If you can get the 2021 model for the same price I would be impressed, because the salesmen generally wont discount their brand new models (2 months old) because they have zero incentive to clear warehouse space, and that's if they can even get stock (multiple salespeople had issues sourcing them due to delivery issues).

          That said.. good luck!

TV's now have those stupid feet at the edges of the screen.

    They are a PITA.

I only have a small unit to sit my TV on and the 65" TV that I want has the feet at the ends, so it's either wall mounting or a mountable swivel stand ($55.90 from Amazon).

  • I recently got one for $1680 at NorthLakes CostCo.

    • ah wow that’s more than last November’s price too. how can the price be getting higher?

      • +1

        Limited stock.

        • Wow okay I thought it would only get cheaper as new models come out. Thought it would have been 1300 by now! Not more expensive that November’s $1500 price tag.

          • @rowdyrobbiebuyer: They were clearing out 2020 stock (now sold out) in November. You wont see the 2021 model (limited stock - covid maybe?) going for those prices until November this year.

@field1985: I was waiting for the price to come down too, but there was very limited stock everywhere. I tried haggling with JB and Harvey's but neither would budge on their price, so I just bit the bullet and bought it.

I'm very happy with it, even if it's more than the November price.
