Got one for my mum a month ago. Great phone for the price!

  • Why am I getting $240???

    • I'm seeing $130 US = roughly $170 here.

      • +1

Pushed the wrong button now $181 is it even worth it

        • +1

Up to you. Good specs but I really disliked Xiaomi's version of Android.

          • +1

@Merlict: no NFC if you wanted to use some pay and transport ticket systems

            • @garage sale: The listing above states no NFC. :-(
Not everyone likes to have their cc details on their phone.

          • +1

@Merlict: Does it still have the baked-in ads?

            • @shaybisc: 6 Xiaomi phones in this household and never seen a baked in ad in any of them.
Are you sure you are not seeing ads in Play Store apps?

          • @Merlict: You can flash a new ROM onto it fairly quickly if you want to spend a little bit of time tinkering with it.

          • @Merlict: You mean the user interface.. UI. It is called MIUI and I have never seen a problem with it in all the years I have used it. IMO the best UI out there.

Not to be confused with the X3 NFC

I'm pretty sure this will sell like hell for those who just want a phone and not gimmicky stuff!

    • -1

      Buyer beware.

      Severe lack of gimmicks.

THIS PHONE DOES NOT APPLY FILTERS AND MAKE ME F***ABLE!!!

  • is there a 5G version of this ?

    • +1

      nope

  • +11

If you ask me …Honestly this is waste of your money on site like banggood and International variant without warranty and NFC(mostly Requires) and wait time of around 30 to 60 days

If you really want a better phone with warranty for that price you can price match oppo a52 with similar specs and NFC plus 2 years warranty at Officeworks for 213$ i bought 1 week back its definitely a good phone.

    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/oppo-a52-u…

besides AU warranty and you have it straight away no waiting, you also get AU certified charger rather than US or EU and a travel adapter.

The Australian market has changed in the last 4 years from when I used to order Xiaomi phones from overseas because there weren't many cheap FHD phones on the market. Now Officeworks have a broader selection of cheap phones, Mobileciti, JB and more off the manufacturers now also have Australian offices or agents so warranty and AU chargers.

Think the last phones I imported was the Xiaomi A2 and Moto 6, now I buy local.

      • Yup, used to be Xiaomi was completely unknown and had to buy from China. Completely changed now.

    • Warranty is important to me so instead of buying redmi note 9 pro from Bangood for around $290, I preferred to buy from Kogan for $350.

      • +1

I'm looking to buy redmi note 9 pro but I will never deal with Banggood again after receiving used damaged phone and then the nightmare of dealing with them to refund it. I'm tempted to do what you did and buy local pay a bit more.

    • +2

Agree.. with the excellent Oppo A52 coming down in price I see no reason to buy a xiaomi from overseas

    • +1

No custom ROM or even bootloader unlock for Oppo. Not in the same league.

    • Hows the camera on the a52? I've seen pics from a moto G9 play which is similarly priced and the image quality is hot garbage.

Edit: actually the g9 costs more

    • No NFC kills it for me.

  • +1

Am on Samsung note 9. Is this a suitable upgrade?

    • +2

Well, note 9 is a flagship phone at its time…

      • Screen cracked, still usable but didn't want to splurge over $1k this time for a change. Reckon this is good for another 3-4 years without the phone getting laggy?

        • +1

Nah, this phone is not the droid you're looking for… the X3 would be a much better buy, would feel like an upgrade in many ways.

Probably give this a miss, keep waiting, or shell out a little more on a Pixel 4a 5G version.

Definitely don't need to spend over 1k, but this phone here is a bargain phone with not enough RAM.

You'd wanna aim for at least 6.

Maybe give the Poco X3 a go, or the Redmi Note 9 Pro. Just don't expect lovely camera performance (though I'm not sure how they compare against the S9 which I suppose is getting on in age now.)

For context I'm on a OnePlus 5 from 2017. It had 6GB of RAM, and doesn't feel sluggish at all today.

The M3 has 4GB, which is plainly not enough for Android, and many corners have been cut to get it down to this price. Not to mention Advertisements littered throughout the system (they're built into the OS, though you can disable them with some fiddling)

        • +1

I'm on a Note 9 too. Decent phone still, but battery life is my biggest frustration, and this deal looks strong. No NFC is a big downside for me as I use Samsung Pay a lot.

Resale price for a used Note 9 looks to be $300 to $400. A new screen is $200 to $350 depending on what needs to be replaced.

If keeping or reselling it might be worth you getting a quote for a screen replacement from a few mobile repair shops to either get more life from the Note 9, or better price if selling it.

    • +1

Very few phones can be considered an upgrade for a Note 9, despite its age.

  • +2

Pretty great for the price, but I would never get a phone without NFC.

  • Triple Camera

you can be a TRIPLE CAMERA GUY

    • +2

I'd rather 1 good camera with OIS than 3 budget cameras

  • +1

Are we able to install vanilla android into it?

    • +1

It's fairly easy to flash new ROMs onto Xiaomi (and Poco). You just need to unlock the boot which they make fairly easy and flash in a new rom. There are quite a few guides for it around online. LineageOS is probably the closest you will get to stock android (I believe its even cleaner than Pixel's OS) although another good ROM is PixelExperience.

      • I don't know anything about flashing ROMS but I've just had a look at the list of supported LineageOS devices. I can't find my current phone - the Ozbargain budget phone of the year last year - or this phone.

  • how this compare to Huawei Mate 10?

  • +1

Currently we have 2 of these bought at USD 129 ea from Aliexpress when it was released.
    Device OK. Camera not impressive.
But it is heavy being 6000mha and bit bulky.
and obviously with other mi craps that you can't disable.

  • gah i got the oppo a52 i wsh id waited for this now!
