Kogan are selling their Premium DC motor pedestal fan at $69.99. This is the lowest price I've seen it in awhile, and I think even lower priced than when it had a 25% discount last week.

      Any good??

      • Mine died just after warranty period of 2 years. But I will buy one more anyways cos it's cheap

Products dying just after warranty period would make reasonable people not purchase that product again, especially considering it's such an expensive pedestal fan.

          • @studentl0an: Well my reason is it to give it another go specially I don't know any other DC pedestal fan and build quality like this one. This time I have added 1 year extra warranty for 15$. It's not that expensive I would say for 69$. 65% less energy is one of the main reason. We run fan overnight 365 days a year. So I would guess it pays for its itself in 2 years?

@[Deactivated]: AC pedestal fans use ~35w/hr, DC 20w/hr. That's 15w/hr difference at full blast, it would be significantly less at lower speeds.

If the fan is on overnight ~10hours that's 150w/day difference between an AC and DC for your use case. For a whole year that's 54,750 w/hrs difference, or 55kw. At $0.23 per kw/h, that's $13 dollars per year saving.

With $13/year saving it would take 4+ years to pay for itself if you run it overnight for 10 hours at full blast. It would take longer if you run it at a slower speed. The fact you're purchasing the extended warranty this time now makes it 5+ years to pay for itself if you run it at full blast overnight.

This is why I still buy AC fans for $12 at bunnings/target/kmart. I think that's cheap for a fan, and I think $70 is expensive. The AC fans last 3 years and I use them everynight at a slow speed for the white noise to sleep.

              • @studentl0an: 🤯 name checks out.

              • @studentl0an: I agree with you mostly on everything except a fan to me also has to enhance to look of a house. Cheap Fans really looks cheap and flimsy. But I agree it's not a big saving in power saving as I initially thought. Thanks for your informative take on it

@[Deactivated]: Then purchase a stainless steel one that actually looks nice and not this white plastic one that looks the same as the cheap AC fans sans a round base?

      • I've run mine for over 3 years now, but it sees no action in the cooler months of the year. Good airflow, great speed controls and pretty quiet when running at lower fan speeds, quieter than the Kmart and Target fans.

        Really can't complain.

  • Anyone know how it squares up against the Xiaomi (apart from not having a battery)?

We got the wifi Arlec one from Bunnings for $80, I think as others have said in other threads, dc means it’s super quiet but barely pushes air

      • The xiaomi can push air but..

        It has 4 speed settings.
        It's only quiet on 1 and 2.
It only pushes lots of air on 3 and 4.

It's good if near the bed at night on #2. Its adequate cfm and won't wake you. But the design is flawed:

It needs a setting between 2 and 3.
The fan blades should be bigger to get the cfm up and noise down. They're tiny…

It's annoys me that a better design could be so easily achieved.

It's also a bit short. Doesn't worry me when using it but looks a little odd. It would be nice if the pole was telescoping.

        • Use the Mi Home app and you can set the fan to any level between 0 and 100, you can also specify how far the fan oscillates eg 30°, 60° etc instead of the default 120°

The Kogan one looks like it has 12 fan speeds, so hopefully that isn't an issue.

I have a cheap AC fan that moves heaps of air - but at the lowest setting it is too loud and too windy for my wife - so looking for something quieter for hot nights.

Bought this end of 2019. It's ok. Mine started having a buzzing sound (sounds like insects stuck on window pane) as it changes the direction of oscillation after a few days of use. Now, it makes a snap/crack noise as well. So my sleep is disturbed and has to stop oscillation. I dislike the inability to change speed quickly as there are no up & down keys on the remote nor main fan. You have to cycle through the speed from lowest to highest (12 speeds) in order to get back to the lowest speed. Very annoying as it beeps loudly for every remote button press. I will upgrade to the Xiaomi DC Fan 2S once this one dies.

I bought 2 of the older version and it's great, it has the wheel to adjust speed so don't have to button through. Was looking to get another one but looks like I'll give this new version a miss.

Oh - that could be a deal breaker.

    • Sure is - how ridiculous!

  • This is also a DC pedestal fan.Is it any good?

    • Bought that a week or so ago, haven't picked it up from the post office. Couldn't find any reviews on it but the manual provided some info about it such as mode settings etc that made me take the punt over buying another one of the Kogan pedestal AC fans (bought one in late 2019). FYI it's cheaper on Catch if you factor in the 10% unidays discount.

        • Can't comment about the product unfortunately. Assembled the one I received and it has had damage to the base and more importantly a high pitch is coming from the fan at all speed levels. Take away the pitch and it's actually quite quiet though. Base is sturdy too and is similar height to the Kogan one. Looks OK too. Will be returning and getting a refund over a replacement.

  • Maybe worth a punt? Whats other options
