I have 3 of them - 2 with the battery in the base…. They are quiet and cheap to run - the simulated wind is a bit of a gimmick and isn't really strong enough to cool anything but otherwise happy with them - $99 is a good price - leave it plugged in for every day use but carry it anywhere whenever needed and the battery has a good few hours life….

    • This is the battery version

    • +3

I personally love the simulated wind.

      • +13

What exactly is simulated wind? Don't all fans attempt to simulate wind?

        • +3

It's some mode where it varies the speed and oscillation a bit to seem more 'natural'

        • +1

This has the best simulated wind mode I've used. Others just cycle between speeds massively this is a much slower and subtle change

          • +19

@The Hobo: Sounds like a wank to me but each to their own, I turn the fan on when its hot and I want to be cooled not to simulate opening a window.

        • +11

It lets out a little fart noise and odour at random intervals. Like my grandmother used to do and blame on the dogs.

    • Do you find the wifi really bad in these units?

I've got 3 and find that there's constant packet drops and the app can't can't communicate half of the time.

      • +2

        No issues at all

      • +1

That may have more to do with your own router/mesh wifi solution than the device itself.

        • Maybe… I have 2 x UniFi UAP-IW-HD access points and both report low signal for Xiaomi Smartmi Fan 2S even when they are meters away. I've also tried changing 2ghz channels to less congested ones with no improvement.

          • @Sunny84: Doesn't this use a 5g connection? When I set up my mobile control something saying that popped up.

      • Happened sometime it may take a bit long if I turned it on manually and tried to use the app to turn it off. But make sure the fan is plugged in, as I understand it won't work on battery.

  • +5

Man I love the idea of a battery in the base, adds stability and utility.

I hope this damn thing doesn't need to be connected to the WiFi to use though, I'm a bit over Xiaomi things wanting to know how many breaths per hour I take.

    • +3

I just don't use the wifi. Buttons on the unit give 4 speed settings and oscillate, you need the app for anything fancier

    • There's buttons for fan speed and left-right movement.

You only need the app if you want to check the battery status or set a timer or do that natural wind thing.

      • +3

Actually I don't think it shows the battery level on the app

      • App doesnt show battery status, thats the disappoining thing with this fan. No idea how much charge is in it, or how long to charge it for.

        • See that just pisses me off.

Its obvious what utility the app could add, but no. Xiaomi are only interested in user data, not adding value.

          • @Telios: I think you're trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. No-one buys something like this to charge and take away to use battery mode five times a day. It's just a fan with no quick disconnect to it's power cable that happens to have a battery onboard for flexibility.

            • @Lighter Fluid:

You need the app if you want to check the battery status or set a timer or do that natural wind thing.

              Thats what I'm referring to.

    • I turfed google once they started asking personal questions like my marital status and net income. Those questions aren't worth 50c!

  • Is this the new version with battery display?

    • -2

@riddam - I don't believe any of them have a battery in the base.

      • @ricdam - I wrote wrong. I meant to say, I don't think any have a battery indicator*

    • I think that's v3

  • +5

Just a heads up – this is much smaller than traditional pedestal fans. My kogan DC fan, which is no bigger than various pedestal fans I've had over the years, absolutely dwarfs the Xiaomi 2s.

It works great and I even integrated it into Home Assistant, but it's definitely worth checking the size (and height) against your intended use.

    • +1

Yup, still perfect for a bedroom but maybe not for large areas.

Still moves a lot of air

    • Yeah it is pretty tiny. I'd love it if they made a full size one even if it meant ditching the battery.

    • Does it require any hub to connect it with the Google Home Assistant?

      • No.

        • So - 'hey google turn on the fan' works?

      • Do you know if it has temperature sensor? I want to buy one to add it to Home Assistant.

    • Hi which fan is this? Found a few Kogan dc fans

  • +4

Any $1 thing to add so we can use code APPLOVE to get $5 off?

    • +2

The $2 SIM card seems to be the cheapest free delivery thing. https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-sim-prepaid-starte…

Buy the fan and sim on your first app order with code APPLOVE for $96

      • Thanks! But I can’t find where to add the code in the app to checkout. I’ve been over it and over it.. help please?

        • +1

Ok, for anyone trying to do this, you need to be logged into an account to add a ‘discount code’ in the App. All bought for $96. Thanks for the tip!

    • I didn’t need to add anything.. $94 total with APPLOVE

  • +1

    thx got one

  • One of the best things about these is how quiet they are.

  • -5

I already have 2 so I will pass.

  • got one from last deal. pretty good fan so far.

  • Figures it comes up on sale right after my First subscription runs out…

  • Good timing, my first sub trial had 2 days left

  • Bought one from Kogan around black Friday. Can't seem to connect it to the app at all. Anyone else has the same problem?

Also, battery runs out rather quickly on level 3 and 4.

  • +1

I have two of these, so quiet, also love the simplicity of design

  • +1

same price at PC byte: https://www.pcbyte.com.au/store/product/9700642019001-xiaomi…

I do avoid buying from Kogan from previous bad experiences. Customer Service = 0

    • +7

      2S has a battery compared to 1X.

    • +1

thanks! I hate buying from kogan as well.

      a few points to note

your link is to 1x not 2s which this post is for. 2s has a battery
      https://www.reddit.com/r/smarthome/comments/c8zdd0/xiaomi_mi…
1% surcharge for credit card purchases
9.90 shipping to sydney, free pickup in auburn
Do u know if they will also send you the australian plug? when purchased from kogan, its shipped with a UK plug, but then they also ship u a AUS plug.

      Cheers!

      • Yeah you get the AU plug but Kogan seems to send it separately.

      • Got my 1X from PCByte, came with the AU power lead & Australian warranty (from Xiaomi Australia).

My 2S from Kogan came with an AU adapter & Kogan warranty, they never hid that it is an import though.

Apart from the battery, they seem to have the exact same DC motor & experience.

  • +1

I wish these came in black.

  • Is the battery replaceable? Will it become brick after battery dead?

    • +1

Not replaceable no. As in there's no obvious battery compartment in the base.

Can't tell you whether it would brick itself on a dead cell. Would kind of suck if that limited the lifetime of these to 5years or so considering fans are so simple they should last decades.

      • Hmm… so is this battery operated and cannot use wired? So when battery dead it will just be expensive brick?

        • It can be used wired

  • +1

How does this Compare to kogans premium fan also for $99?

  • +4

Got the one without the battery for quite a while. Here is my personal opinion
    Pro
    1. Low power consumption (even lower than Kogan premium DC fan)
    2. Very quite
    3. Look nicer than most fan
    4. 100 speed over the apps and 4 speed over the fan
    5. 5 oscillating setting over the apps (off, 30/60/90/120 degree)
    6. Small, easier moving around.
    7. Decent quality

    Con
    1. More expensive
    2. Doesn’t blow a lot of wind (probably dues to it’s smaller size, enough for my bedroom)

Conclusion, good fan if you don’t mind spent a bit more.

    • +2

I agree, these are so good I've acquired three so far. I reckon if they sold in bricks & mortar stores they'd go very well. The fan has a sleep timer but you can schedule on-off times via the Mi Home app. For example: sleep with air-conditioning until 1am, with fan scheduled to keep you comfy for the rest of the night.

  • +5

Bought this early January, its an instant classic for me, how could i live without it?
Very very quiet, you can literally make it dead quiet and just feel the air…
I have a few Xiaomi strips and bulbs and i can control this with the same app, huge convenience.

Only minus that its short, i would have liked it to be taller.

  • +1

Guys how quiet we talking? I like a bit of white noise for sleeping. But my awful dyson fan has started this low tone hum through the machine, which is annoying.

    • Very quiet - With speed up to 2, you can barely hear it. 3 and 4, it’s audible enough.

  • +3

Just ordered with another free trial of Kogan First, you can make a new account with a (.) decimal inserted anywhere in the first part of your Gmail & it will still go to your same email as a different account.

I added an (a) to my address number and removed it after signup to save $10.95 shipping.

    • Phone number verification means it won’t work.

      • +2

I didn't need to verify the number.

    • I had to use a different phone number..

just changing the credit card wasnt enough.

But second Kogan first trial worked for me.

    • Didn't work for me, added a . and it still says I've used my free trial :(

  • +3

Being an Indian I can see this fan will sell like a hot cakes in India. Power cuts are regular and this will be life saver

  • Can these be used with Alexa to control on/off/speed?

  • How does it compare to Kogan SmarterHome™ Bladeless DC Motor Slim Smart Fan (Black)?

    • It's like an USB fan but with more cooling. I would want one too if it uses Eneloops..

    • +1

If you have variable electricity rate you can charge it when electricity is cheap and use it whenever you need it

    • Charge it with solar during the day, run it on batter all night.

  • Yikes, in the past couple of months the boffins at Kogan have hiked up the freight to $36.99 (standard shipping), and i live at a city only 3hrs away from Perth.

Tried a different address same cost and KoganFirst is not available for the area.

    • Deliver to a friend in Perth and pick up when you're next in town?

  • -2

Thanks! Bought 2 from PC Byte

    • +7

They are not the same model.
Kogan selling: Xiaomi Smartmi DC Conversion Pedestal Fan 2S
PCByte: selling Xiaomi Mi Smart Standing Fan 1X (does not have battery)

      • +1

        Oh noooo

        • +1

          F

      • Is the lack of battery the only difference? If so might go this way as I think it will have a longer life.

  • +2

    Just some notes :

    Suncorp Rewards, 6% off
    $100 gift card = $94

Also, even if you can't score a Kogan First free trial it still ends up cheaper for freight by paying 11.99 for a 1 month subscription.
    $11.99 for a month(remember to cancel) - free shipping
    $15 with no Kogan First.

    • hey for the Suncorp rewards..

I wasnt sure how quick you get the gift cards, are they instand?

I have passed on using them a couple times, but perhaps I should re-examine.

      thanks!

      • +1

        Instant, homie

    • +2

maybe variable by location? $10 shipping for me, $12 for Kogan First.

  • Thanks OP. Got one.

  • -4

This looks like overpriced crap compared to a main-powered pedestal fan for $20 at Bunnings.

  • Love this fan, just grabbed another!
Battery is a game changer for me, being able to move it around the house no cables is fantastic.
Would love a bigger battery is my only thing - might see if I can find if anyone has modded to put a larger capacity battery in the base

  • -3

    $99 for a fan!? Wow bargain /s
