Eviciv Portable 13.3" 1920x1080 Touchscreen Monitor with Keyboard, Touchpad and Battery US$308.26 / A$414.03 @ Eviciv Aliexpress

170

A different kind of product. For road warriors, it offers a large touch screen and keyboard when connected to a phone and can also act as a second screen for a laptop. Keep an eye out for Aliexpress coupons and specials as they come up all the time. Think of having a laptop without a CPU and USB A ports.

The Eviciv/UPerfect lapdock when compared to similar Asus products offers a few more features, a keyboard, touchpad and case for approximately 60% of the cost of an Asus Zentouch MB16AMT.

You can buy an external LCD monitor without touchscreen and without battery (which are great as a second screen with travelling with a laptop) on Ebay such as 13.3 or 15.6" for around $160 which offer Samsung Dex connectivity, USB C, mini HDMI or alternately you can connect a game console or iphone* so you can view the contents on a larger screen. Spend a little more and you get a touch screen. Spend a little more again and get an in built battery (eg ASUS ZenScreen GO MB16AHP approx $600 or ASUS ZenScreen Touch MB16AMT approx $700). The inbuilt battery provides portability and can recharge some phones via the USB C port. Note: some newer laptops with USB C Alternative Mode can connect to a standard portable screen (which does not have an inbuilt battery) and work i.e. the screen is powered from the laptop. Older laptops can connect via the hdmi or mini hdmi ports on the external monitors (depending which brand you buy). And spend even more again (approx $200) on the Eviciv and get a laptop style case, keyboard and mouse pad.

The Eviciv 13.3 portable screen is about the same size as a Dell Latitude 5300 laptop. The Eviciv (also branded as UPerfect) is sometimes referred to as a "lap dock".

Using the portable screen you can use a browser, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Outlook mobile, MS Word, Youtube or other apps running off your mobile phone - and you get access to a full keyboard, touchpad and touchscreen. If your office is accessible via VMWare or other VPN client, you can view on a larger screen. In testing the screen with a Samsung Note 20 phone, it runs Dex and charges the phone at the same time. I paired a Microsoft Notebook 5000 bluetooth mouse to my phone and now you can browse and click, just like a PC. You can even change the mouse sensitivity on the phone.

Screen colour is good and speakers are bearable (maybe similar to an external speaker on a phone).

The case rotates 360 degrees and offers a few different ways of propping up the screen: 1. Notebook Mode 2. Upside down "V" or tent style (rotating the case) 3. Stand mode (ie keyboard facing downwards) 4. Tablet mode (similar to the Stand mode but laying the screen flat)

It doesn't work with all phones and laptops via USB C, below is the list from the manufacturer. If the laptop has hdmi, that will provide an alternative connection.
*Note for iOS not all apps can be viewed on the external monitor.

Interesting product. Would be cool if they made a Chromebook at this price with a display passthrough feature.

    • +1

That would be much more worth it in my opinion

      • looking towards the future it would be a great addition for any laptop to act as a second screen/extended display. Similarly for any iPad / Samsung Tablet to act as a second screen for a PC.

    Wow getting huge superbook vibes

  • Can this run a Raspberry Pi?

Looks exactly the same as the UPERFECT X True Portable Monitor (which is cheaper)

EVICIV: US $286.24 + GST with Free Shipping
UPERFECT: US $279.99 + GST with Free Shipping

Not to confuse with NexDock Touch but I was looking to get a NexDock 360 and having seen these lapdocks on Aliexpress, it looks like it could be the same thing (rebranded)?
The NexDock seems work out cheaper than the Eviciv but didn't take casback into account on Aliexpress (if eligible).

There might be other brands too with better prices.

    • yes UPerfect is made by the same manufacturer.

It can connect to Raspberry Pi via hdmi. It has a mini hdmi to hdmi cable.

I had a look also on Aliexpress to see if there were other brands and found one other. Mine unit took 3 weeks to arrive and have been testing it with different devices. So far it has lived up the my expectations.

      • Do you have a Raspberry Pi? I wonder how long it can power the Raspberry Pi.

What's the battery usage like on your Eviciv? How long can it last on just general web surfing, or watching media continuously?
How loud and clear are speakers? Audio clear if you are several metres away? Still audible if you are in another room?

A good price for these is below USD $260, so this is not really "a deal". The cheapest I have heard so far has been USD250 on reddit

The Nexdock 2 which was not a touch/360 product, was available on kickstarter for USD199

The Nexdock Touch is available on preorder for USD269

The keyword to use on Aliexpress/reddit/amazon US etc is "Lapdock"

These have some discussion/reviewed on the samsungDex reddit.

Originally there were a few on kickstarter/indiegogo such as the nexdock 2 and nexdock touch, and later on the Uperfect x Evciv Omiodo etc on Aliexpress/Amazon US which all seem to offer similar functionality and limitations.

From memory, there are still issues in making them a "daily driver" (ports, touchpad, speakers).

    My ideal lapdock would have
    1. A feature to hold/charge the phone, ideally in the touchpad location (as DeX allows the phonet to operate as the touchpad when docked).
    2. USB-C 3.1 gen 2 each side that charge
    3. 360 hinge
    4. 13.3 FHD IPS touchscreen with USI stylus support and no PWM.
    5. 10 Hour battery

    • Do take note that on the Reddit post they wouldn't be getting flogged with GST like we are 😉

No.. Not Miraxess. Do NOT go with these people. They haven't even delivered their Indiegogo campaign that's gone on for FOUR years now. Pieces of Sh!te these guys are.

      • Wow, did they get their money back? What about on Amazon? I saw they have it on there but out of stock.

        • Nope. None of us got our money back to date. They "legitimised" the campaign by delivering 10% of the orders to a random amount of people with a working model. However, the 90% of us remaining have been chasing every month hoping for good news. They use to give an excuse monthly, but stopped even updating their campaign and only updating every 3 months telling people to be patient.

Yeah.. lesson is: don't back any funding campaigns like this unless the people have a good track record of delivery (eg. GPDWin have a fantastic record for delivering before the delivery dates).

      • Interesting with the 2k screen - do you know if it will work at 2k resolution with DeX on an S20FE?

I wish they would make these Lapdocks to accept an Raspberry PI 4 compute module. Snap it in and away you go RPI 4 laptop. If not using compute module you could still use USBC/HDMI inputs etc.

    • I will invest in you if you make one.

    • -1

      Already been done to death..

      https://www.sparkfun.com/products/15175

That's one of many available Pi Laptop kits around..

      • That's only half of what he asked for, there's no suggestion you can use it as a HDMI in + KB for an external PC and it looks like a toy.

      • No it hasn't. Basically a generic Lapdock that will work with any combo of HDMI/USB/USBC etc plus Raspberry Pi compute module included. If it was made generic enough that it could plugin via a daughter board that lets host RPI compute 4 and any thing else eg a RPI Pico if you wanted. a simple three way switch would set modes, 1 Internal compute module, 2 usb-c (phones etc), 3 standard HDMI/USB.

Man I should start a Kickstarter, all you need is some fancy animations and after a million bucks of backers I could get the damn thing made.

      • Wow that green…But can the RPi4 run on it?

        Can I put a Raspberry Pi 4 in a pi-top [3], pi-top CEED or pi-top [1]?

  • I’m keen after not knowing something like this existed.

Is there a device with these fruits plus an inbuilt web cam on the screen?

For example if I’m running zoom of my laptop, and want to use this as a second display with the camera.

    • +1

I dont know of a lapdock with a webcam (yet).
In the meantime, your phone usually has a superior camera to most webcams so perhaps look at getting a phone holder for zoom and using droidcam on your PC.

    • +2

I'm using Samsung DEX (Note 10+) and running mainly MS Teams, Zoom and Webex along with the regular social stuff (whatsapp, FB messenger etc) and use the webcam directly from the phone itself. I've done group presentations to 50+ people on it without any issues.Just have to stand it up either with a case stand (Landscape) or a mount (portrait mode).

My phone has pretty much replaced my laptop almost..

      • Can you do this with an iPhone?

        • Short answer: Hell No.

  • Just reaching out to people on this deal - Which postage did you choose? Obviously doubt choosing the $283 DHL option, but did you choose the Ali Express Standard Shipping (Due Mar 20) or the seller standard shipping (May 13)?

    • +1

I selected Ali Express Standard Shipping, after selected the coupons they have on store, it sort of reimburse of this option. Also I didn't want to risk having to wait for months on end for it to arrive.

total price in the end came to: 429.51 aud (includes import tax)

      • Might grab one tonight. I've been using the HP lapdock for over 2 years now but there's heaps of quirks out of it (eg. sometimes not detecting DEX, no sound, no 3.5mm Headphone/mic port, no touch screen etc). Giving up on the Mirabook BS given the 4 year wait. The inbuilt MicroSD slot will be useful in this dock as well..

      • Looks like they dropped the price a bit tonight and got charged a total of $398 AUD inc Import tax.

Hopefully no delays.. but still not too sure about the exports coming out of China at the moment since the Pandemic started.

        • +1

yes they did, bummer! good thing you waited!

  • Anyone got their order shipped yet?

    • Update: i received mine yesterday.

A few things in my observation:

      1. It's not AU plug, they just provided a travel adapter for US to AU. I tested other chargers and any Fast Charger will work as a replacement.
      2. It's pretty hard to open the lid! not enough room or space to lift it.
      3. Solid build!
      • Did it charge your phone as you use it? I've noticed that it doesn't charge my phone when docked unlike the Samsung docks or my HP Lapdock..

  • Received mine today.. and it is EXCELLENT.. almost everything I expected but not sure why it is not charging my phone at the same time. Maybe I'm missing something?
