Chalkboard Central Otago Pinot Noir 750ml 2017 $5 (was $20) @ Liquorland

620

$5 seems okay for a Pinot Noir. Same price on Coles online shop. Bought a couple at Mitcham VIC today, vintage 2017, still some left. Best call and check availability with your local store.

      Like licking a chalkboard?
      Good reviews on Vintage Cellars

      • Dunno, haven’t opened, I am not a wine drinker, better leave to others to comment, just going with the price. Worst case they will become one cooking wine and one party gift 😊

I’ve had it before. Not worth $20. Maybe $15.
      For $5, it’s a no brainer.

Ordered a case for delivery with a few extras to get free delivery

    Central Otago does good wines

  • Bought a case at Northern Beaches. It's been good before…..

  • "
Removed product Chalkboard Central Otago Pinot Noir 750mL in WA as it is no longer in stock."

    • Try another store. It means it is unavailable at that store.
Took attempts at many stores before I found one that did not show similar message in QLD.

    • Managed to grab the last six bottles from Kalamunda store.

Saying $5 seems good for a 'Pinot Noir' is frankly stupid. Any varietal can be bad.

    • Came here for this comment.

Bad phrasing? 'seems good for their Pinot Noir'?

Otherwise, it's like saying "$13,000 seems good for a passenger car". Is cheap the only goal here?

Pinot Noir varietals are notoriously difficult (and expensive) to produce. The grapes are quite sensitive to sun, but also susceptible to mould/mildew/fungus. Because of this, Pinot Noir wine tends to be more expensive if compared to wine from other varietals of the same quality/grade. You can get some pretty good Shiraz for 15-20 a bottle, 25-35 if you are buying local from small producers, etc. For Pinot Noir of the same grade I would add at least 5 dollars a bottle to those price brackets.

My point being, the comment makes sense if you interpret it at "typically pinot noir is more expensive than usual. For 5 dollars, this seems a bargain".

      • Thank you. My point too.

Any good wine is difficult to produce well. There are many cheap, sub $10 Pinot Noir bottles available at these 'chain' stores.
I think it is silly to say that $5 is a 'good price' for a Pinot Noir, in general, not at all saying whether this is a good bottle of wine or not.
The grapes might be slightly more difficult, but that doesn't reflect on the quality of this bottle.

While we are on wine, I highly recommend the LATTA - Rattlesnake. It should be listed here as a bargain at $30!

    • That's why I posted links to reviews above.
      You decide.

  • Nothing in SA I believe

Pinot Noir is pretty much always good. Easy drinking wine. I've never had a bad one and I've bought at mostly the cheaper end ($15-25).

Central Otago makes nice wines. I haven't had this brand but for $5 it's an absolute bargain regardless of whether it's awesome or just ok. I'll have to see if I can find one for myself.

  • thanks OP $5 for a vivino 3.5 rated Central Otago doesn't seem too bad

    • Depends on year - not stated in Deal.
Average of a good 3.4/5 - in reviews posted at start of Deal.

  • Good. I can't stand (profanity) Merlot.

    • Merlot? I never heard of it. Did they just invent it?

  • It seems like a price error as it has been removed from website

Not a price error. I just picked up 2 bottles from my local store, he told me liquorland just want to get rid of the stocks. He told me all stocks are gone in NSW. My local shop only have 14 bottles left, another customer brought 12 bottles.

      • May have been me?

  • I just picked up 2 from local as well

  • Did anyone try it yet?

    • Yes. I'd say it's worth around $3.80 a bottle!

Rang local LL in Brisbane - new stock expected tomorrow.
