Saw the title and image and thought there was bega peanut butter haagen -dazs and got super excited!!

    • +3

Same here, thought it was peanut butter ice cream. 😅

  • +3

Bega peanut butter is the rebranded Kraft variety right? If so, you're probably better off getting 1/2 price Mayvers from Coles!

    • +3

      Classic greasy peanut butter FTW!
      :P

(honestly though, I do prefer the "classic" peanut butter over the Mayvers style ones)

    • +3

The Bega peanut butter is I think the last of the peanut butter using Australian peanuts. The MacGyver one is imported from who knows where… probably China or Argentina, some huge peanut producing country.

I recently flipped over to Bega when MacGyver flipped over international ingredients without specifying the country.

/Only thing I miss is the electrical tape hidden in the glass.

It blows my mind we import ice-cream from the other side of the planet. There's probably countless other examples of things like this - I just found that really surprising.

    • +5

And there is a reason for that. Because, although Haagen Dasz is 'supermarket brand', it
      is really good stuff.

You don't see us importing streets quality ice cream from the other side of the world do you?

      • +12

Streets Cornettos are made in Indonesia now and taste like dirt. The lemonade ones are made in China. Viennetta is made in Portugal and is oil and corn syrup not even cream. Haagen Dasz is a made up word to sound Danish and fancy but is a regular American supermarket brand too that also got outsourced to another country, they are like $4 regular price in the USA. Unilever has ruined pretty much everything they touch and they own a massive amount of brands.

        • +5

F me, oil and corn syrup, made in China. I didn't realise it was this bad. I'll check this out for myself, I don't believe it.

The crap companies think they can get away with. It really is a race to the bottom.

Way to go Cornetto, you're now on my do not buy list……

/Well it never was to being with, I guess this time it's in the naughty corner for good.

          • +2

@mrhugo: The reason simply coz China bought a shipload of corn from USA a few months back, in order to prepare for the incoming famine

Haagen Dazs is made in France.

You can go live in North Korea if you like communism. I heard they manufacture this ice cream In North Korea. Proudly made and owned by North Koreans. Hahahahahha.

We export it too, along with lots of other dairy products, live cattle and beef, lamb, seafood, grain, fruit and vegetables.

We also import things like Egyptian navel oranges in the summertime (because navels are a winter fruit), cherries from the USA in August/September, and no end of processed food products from China, Thailand, Italy and many other countries.

As a matter of fact, we export around two-thirds of every agricultural product we produce. If we didn't export it, we'd have a glut, and a lot of waste. Wealthy consumers in Asia, North America, Europe and the Middle East pay more for the stuff we grow than Australians will (for the most part). And in return, we don't make processed food of the same quality as ice cream from Europe or North America (well, someone actually told me about Gundowrie ice cream in another thread, and it's awesome, but I mean on a large scale). It's as likely as not that Australian or New Zealand dairy products go into Haagen-Dazs, and are exported back to us as the finished product.

It's a way of ensuring that less is wasted, and that wealthier people can have access to better quality stuff, while the lower-grade stuff is processed or exported to less discerning markets.

      • You ever tried Van Diemens ice cream? Hard to get but damn good

    • Probably not worth building specialised factories in a small market like Australia. For something as non perishable as icecream.

Not letting myself buy that salted caramel Haagen-Dazs.. it's almost too good, very hard to not eat it all in one go haha.

  • +1

I wish they still had the peanut butter crunch stick ice-cream.

  • +1

Stocking the the strawberry 🍓 flavour for sure !!

    • +1

Have you tried the Strawberry Cheesecake flavour?

      • +2

It is not bad but personally I still prefer the regular strawberry. Just bear in mind these two are like totally different in flavour. The strawberry in strawberry cheesecake is just some strawberry chunks.

        • I second the strawberry cream flavour!

      • +2

A close second to Strawberries and Cream imo

      • +1

Regular strawberry is the most honest ice-cream you can buy in supermarket. It has 5 basic ingredients: milk, cream, sugar, egg yolk and strawberry.

      • Yes 🙌 it’s good but just prefer the OG strawberry flavour ! :) gonna have some now lmaooo

  • +1

Which one is the least sweet flavour? Got the strawberry cheesecake last time, lovely texture but it was so damn sweet.

    • -1

Try Ben & Jerry's for strawberry cheesecake if you want mild. Not sure about other Haagen flavours that are milder, but the pictured salted caramel is at the extreme sweet end of the spectrum.

    • +2

My uncle is Hermann Dazs, I’ll shoot your feedback to him and hopefully production can be started on this flavour again.

  • Town Hall Woolies is mine. Stay away!! :)

  • +2

Misread the title and thought the peanut butter Haagan dazs was back. Probably the best super market ice cream I ever had. Unfortunately I bought my first and only tub right around they time they stopped selling it. What a cruel world.

    We want Macadamia flavor!!
