  • Also appears to be a discount on one of the EKO TV's I assume its this one down to $699. I don't think they have the borderless QLED version anymore. No idea how this compares.

    • I got the 75" for the same price pre order, quite happy with it, for an LCD

      • Curious, how and when were you able to get the 75" for $699? Was that for the android TV version or other version?

        • $899* sorry, which is still an excellent deal!

          • -3

@itsmattaitken: Until it fails in 2 years.

            • +1

@Techie4066: I'll let you know when it does, very pessimistic mindset!

              • -3

@itsmattaitken: Haha, you get what you pay for! You really think a cheap homebrand TV no one has heard of before will last? I even had a Samsung fail on me after less than 2 years! Good luck lol.

            • +1

@Techie4066: My experience is Big W will replace or refund you. Major appliances, electronics and phones are expected to last more than 2 years. Eko 12 month warranty is ridiculous and consumers would have a reasonable claim beyond that period.

              • @4agte: Most electronics are 1 year these days as companies reduce quality in favour of minimising costs. Don't expect these companies to cover manufacturing defects after the warranty period, they're not legally obliged to as their warranty period is already regulated by Australian Consumer Law.

                • @Techie4066: I understand these companies now give a 1 year warranty. That doesn't make it an appropriate warranty. We still have protections under Australian Consumer Law. Certain items are expected to have an expected lifetime. This has been discussed many times here. Not sure why you have opposite information considering ACL. A tv is not expected to only last a year. Neither is a mobile phone. We are also talking about Big W. They have a history of replacing and refunding customers outside of warranty periods

                  • @4agte: That would be an act of goodwill to the consumer. For a company selling TVs so cheap with higher failure rates than other brands, you simply cannot expect anything after the legal guarantees. If the products were guaranteed to last longer until the end of their expected lifetime, the warranties would be longer. That is not covered under ACL, evidently.

                    • @Techie4066: A consumer is still protected under ACL law if a manufacture does not set an appropriate warranty. If I buy a tv and breaks under at 18 months I would be happy to wager I would be successful in an outside warranty claim. The company knows it has set the bar too low to reduce claims but their customers are supported under ACL. What you call goodwill is just the store saving you time by avoiding the manufacturer.

If the products were guaranteed to last longer until the end of their expected lifetime, the warranties would be longer.

This is crazy statement. Unless warranty is a selling point to differentiate themselves from their competitors, it is in a companies and their shareholders best interests to limit their warranty as much as they can.

                      • @4agte: Good luck. A warranty exists only for the period specified, otherwise they have almost no purpose. Companies are not obliged to provide you a replacement or repair free of charge following that period according to the legislation. I struggled to get anything out of Samsung following the warranty period.

it is in a companies and their shareholders best interests to limit their warranty as much as they can.

And for the exact reason behind that - keeping costs down - they will avoid spending on their failed products down the line. Profit margins need to be maintained, that is why warranties are kept short therefore companies only support you free of charge on a goodwill basis. A high rate of failure on such a cheap product only means the store is selling it at a loss. Delay the gratification, save up and don't buy landfill if you have the choice. It's a headache and incredibly wasteful buying replacements (behaviour we can't keep engaging in), and doesn't provide you with the satisfaction attainable at a slightly higher price point. More often than not, mid-range TVs are also produced with better working conditions.

                        • @Techie4066: Techie, I think you would have got a better result with your Samsung claim if you exercised your rights under the relevant laws, which are called 'Consumer Guarantees', not warranty, which is completely different when it comes to getting a result…

Also, pro-tip for others, always buy with a Credit Card, as many give an extra 1 year on top of manufacturers warranty, and help with chargebacks when goods are not as described, such as being faulty or not fit for purpose.

                          • -2

@Heaps for Cheaps: Consumer Guarantees after 3 years of purchase? I think the Planned Obsolescence guarantee overrides any consumer law at that age, unfortunately.

    • They also have a 65" EKO for $579.

  • Where are the best spots for Big W discount gift cards?

      • Noticed NSW senior card holder can get 5% off. Got a wish card instead.

    • +12

All fun and games until it's sold out and your stuck with a $600 Big W gift card and nothing to use it on.

    • +1

You might find better rates with the $250 Coles MasterCard offer (~7%), I'd assume it works for this.

Can still be used anywhere if you can't find stock too.

      • Do you really think you can get them lol .

    • +1

Get a wish card. I think it works at both woolliesand bigw.

I'm an Android user - nothing against apple, I'd consider swapping for sure - is the xr a good value at this price? Interested to see thoughts. It's been out for a while no?

    • +2

XR is a few generations old now.

From what I know the X is a better phone with a better camera.

You can pick up X refurbs for about the same price as this.

I recently went from an X to an 11 Pro and the difference is light and day. So unless you want to get the latest 12 think about an 11.

      Hope this helps.

      • Thanks mate appreciate your input. The newer ones are way above what I'd spend on a phone. If my oneplus 5 breaks I'd be considering something like this or the new SE to replace it. I like the smaller size - one handed operation!

        • +2

New SE is a tad smaller than the X. XR is huge. And also with the newer chipset, you would receive more updates in the future with the SE.

          • @hawkeye93: Oh true? I figured the x and xr were similar size, different specs. There you go…

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: X and Xs are of similar size 5.8 but different specs.
XR, 11 & 12 and 12 Pro are of similar size 6.1, different specs again.

              • +1

@Smokey010: Aye yai yai. Used to be so simple to choose an iphone! šŸ˜‚

              • +2

@Smokey010: To make things more confusing, not all 6.1ā€ iPhones are equal. The older LCD versions have more bezel and rounded edges, the newer 12/12 Pro are really noticeable more compact.

      • Is the difference minimal (light and day) or a lot (night and day)?

      • The XR has a better chip though (same as XS). Theyā€™re both dated devices though but the XR should get another year of iOS support out of it.

    • +1

I went from a Galaxy S10 to a Iphone XR and absolutely miss my s10 so much. Mostly the camera i guess.

      • +2

And also the screen, I reckon.

      • suprise you didn't mention the 4g and wifi reception

      • Iā€™m stuck with Samsung until someone invents a DeX mode.

    • +1

If you really care about screen as I do, don't even think about xr or se or 11.
If you care about battery go for xr.
If you care about size and price x might be good enough but it's old and battery might suck.
Xr is good. It's old but not slow. Camera above average. It's big & heavy. I just don't like the screen.

      • What's wrong w the screen? Don't really care about screen tbh, battery is way more important.

        • +2

          Low resolution and not OLED.

        • -1

Thereā€™s absolutely nothing wrong with the screen. The newer OLED screens are a tad clearer and better with contrast but unless you compare them side by side, most people wonā€™t notice the difference. What annoys me with Android screens is that whites are often blueish. Thatā€™s never been a problem with iPhones, LCD or OLED.

  • Where are the free kids books?

  • Is it worth getting this on salary sacrifice?

  • Price beat OW - their current price is $699

  • Iā€™m out of the loop. How does it compare to iPhone 8 or similar?

    • Itā€™s one generation up. Unless you want a bigger screen, itā€™s not much of an upgrade. You may also be put off by the extra weight. A better, affordable upgrade for you would be the 2020 SE (same look, much better phone), the 12 mini (nice and compact, superior in every way) or an 11 Pro (tad smaller than the XR, great phone).

      • Great, thank you.

  • +1

    I miss TRS!

  • Starting 18/02

From 11 Feb In 2 days

    Which is it?

    Edit: Looks like the 11th.

i've had the iphone xr since late 2018, I can safely say that the phone battery still lasts all day. It's not the most up to date device but its definitely worth it at $600+. If you're the 'average' phone user and you don't need the latest state of the art camera capabilities, it's a great all rounder for those who want a larger screen. I use it at the gym when I do my own workouts and I'm grateful for the size. You can now get an OK iphone xr case for a few dollars at Kmart!

  • -2

Taking into account this is 2 1/2 year old and Apple normal support their phones for at least 3 years ( stats about 5 yrs ) .
Why would you buy this phone that is rapidly increasing its depreciation ?

  • Does Apple price match deals like this?

  • Thanks OP - going to gift XR to wife for the valentines day.
will jb hi-fi price match it? Jb has red colour model which mrs would love :)

  • new XR or refurb XS?
