  • Am I getting this right? I paid $1000 for my Ultra on pre-release on a $99 plan, which was effectively a $850 discount plus a free set of Buds Pro. Now they've made the discount $1250? Really?! Or am I missing something?

    • +3

Price goes down quick for technology (items) in general, so discount should be bigger as time passes.

    • +5

I mentioned this on another thread. Go by history 10-20% drop during the first quarter and 30-40% drop depends on the deal in second quarter. Also you don't have the problem trying to sell you Galaxy buds as price are totally trashed when everyone try to off load.

Obviously pre-released fans not impress with my comment with the amount of down votes I got!!

    • You bought on release, what did you expect?

  • has Samsung fixed S21' overheating issue ? https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/comments/l9ysgm/samsung_s21…

    • it’s Snap888 chip that u have to worry about with heating issue, like Snap 820 déjà vu, meanwhile in Au we have Exynos chip which is very close with performance but well balanced :)

    • One single instance of someone having their phone overheat, when they themselves cannot reproduce it, doesn't make it an issue.

  • are there any good price drop S10 deals now that these new S21 versions are all out?

    • +1

Not sure if JB still has much of those

  • +1

can we still get the free buds?

    • no

  • Anyone know of any trade in deals? Got a new S20 FE

    • I just purchased the s20 FE for $629 from the edu store using the $50 off code too. Could have gotten the s21 for a little bit cheaper ($594 ETC).

      • What are the differences between the S20FE and the S21?

        • S21 ultra is an upgrade. Cameras and CPU upgrade. If you don't need that or the bigger screen, s20 Fe is the better buy. Don't touch the s21/+. I got an s20 FE 5G and I love the ultra price here but after a year it's still $800 or whatever more than my s20 Fe with boost. I don't need that much data a month or cutting edge cam specs.

        • The S21 is better, it's a newer upgraded flagship phone whereas the S20 FE is a budget flagship from the previous generation.

      • +1

@pongie - do you have the link please to S20 FE for $629? I have access to the edu store but can see a higher pricing. Thanks!

        • Probably finished.

    • I'm keen on s20fe, i actually want lighter phone with plastic back, I'm in brissy, keen to buy for reasonable 2nd hand price, couldn't figure out how to private message

scratch that, im getting s21 standard

  • -1

With early termination fees, telstra terms has also mentioned that we need to pay any remaining phone or accessories payment.
    So that is unknown

    • where does it say in T&C or CIS?

  • +2

shame no 256gb for this deal

    • +1

phone feels like a real step backwards. My S10+ came in 128/512/1TB. The first upgrade gives you 4X the standard model's storage. The next step gives you 8X that.

This maxes out at 256, which is half of that.

I hope next year's model will be S30 and no S22 and go back to being a real upgrade and not a budgety plastic phone.

      • +1

The lack of expandable storage really sucks this version.

      • +1

Why does it matter what it's called? It'll be the S22 because they've matched the name to the year, if you haven't noticed.

        • -2

Why does it matter what it's called?

It's a larger perceived update when you jump by 9 than by 1. Which is consistent with the actual size of the upgrade. S21 is not a big upgrade over S20. In some ways a downgrade.

I hoped for next year's to be S30 and be a real upgrade.

It'll be the S22 because they've matched the name to the year, if you haven't noticed.

That could be just a coincidence. It's strange to go up by 1 every year then suddenly go up by 10 when reaching double digits, and then go back to incrementing by 1.

          • +1

            @lostn: It's not a coincidence. It's the year.

          • +1

@lostn: The phone will be the same whether they call it S22 or S30…

    • There us one for $100 additional upfront. Checked with DFO homebush store

  • Optus don't have this deal?

    • +1

      $65 over 2 years, s21 base
Not bad, as get Optus sport

      • How do u get free handset on Optus?

It ends up being $101 a month minimum with $52.02 per month handset on S21 128GB and $49 on Medium optus plan

  • +1

Almost feels like a no brainer? $1188 for 12 months plan and a $1249-$1349rrp phone?

    • -1

Plus $599 upfront for the phone?

      • S21 128gb is $0 upfront? S21 ultra is $1849rrp

        • Thought you were referring to S21 Ultra.

  • +3

With the ETC factored in - am I correct in saying that you can get the S21 base model for $594 total?

    • -1

      Yep

    • Can people confirm this ??? I am confused with some people talking about some 500$ voucher cancellation fees telatra jb deal?? Wt is that??

  • I've done the pixel 2 and 4 the last couple of years but on the $59 plan, does anyone think this will drop in plan price?

  • -1

If I cancel, will telstra charge the $100 temporary connection fee since I would be cancelling within the first 3 months???

    • -1

It's $500 if you cancel within first 6 months

      • +1

I guess the neg are towards JB Hifi and Telstra, but not to you.

  • Is it only the 128gb models available on deal?

    • thats what im wondering… would like a 256gb

      • The deal is basically $1250 off the whole S21 range on the $99pm plan.
So $699 upfront for Ultra 256GB.

  • JB also has $10 per month discount off the plan as well, so it's $89 pm if you wanted to stick with the plan.

    • +3

Have you got a link to this?

      • Just spoke to JB store. The $10 pm credit no longer applies to the $99 plan. Only $69 plan.

  • +1

Is there a great soul that can point me to a for dummies type process to do the etc thing with JB?

Can i get a new number or does it have to be ported?

    • Either - But if ur going to cancel just get a new number. Once u get the phone log into the Telstra portal and ask for an ETC on your contract. They will send the bill out 1-2 months later.

  • +1

limited storage = Google wants your money

    • Sign up to tencent storage or another that gives GB’s of free storage

  • So if I get the s21 $0 upfront on a $99 plan which comes with a $500 gift card. ETC is $594. Therefore I am really only out of pocket $94 for the phone?
Also it says 'when you switch your number to telstra..' Does that mean I have to port a number or can I just get a new number for the deal?

    • +1

You cannot stack the S21 $0 upfront and the $500 GC, it is one or the other.

    • +2

That would be an amazing deal! I think it says both offers not available in conjuction with other offers. That's how they'll get around giving gift card. It is probably either Gift Card or Phone deal.

    • +2

The reason you can get the s21 $0 upfront is because you paid JBHifi with the gift card for the phone. But now Telstra put a new clause in the terms and conditions :
      "Voucher
For new Telstra customers signing up to a mobile plan, you may be eligible to receive a voucher to put towards the purchase of goods from JB Hi-Fi or The Good Guys stores. It is not transferable or redeemable for cash (including any unused part). If you cancel, recontract or move to an ineligible plan then you will need to pay a Voucher Reimbursement Cancellation Fee pro-rated against the remaining months on your Plan, the maximum of which is set out in the table above. This is in addition to any Early Termination Charges set out in the above table and accessory payments."

My guess is they probably will charge this voucher fee together with the ETC.

As for me, I still have not received the bill from Telstra for the ETC of $594 I owed for the s20+ I bought August last year (before the vocuher fee clause was added).

      • Thanks for clarifying. It still a deal I guess as essentially the 12 month contract can work out to be the same cost of the phone itself, factoring in the upfront cost being almost cancelled out by the gift card.

I am surprised that they haven't sent you the ETC bill! Very lucky haha

        • If JB Hifi gives you $10 credit per month, you'll get the s21 for $1068 ($89x12 months) with 150GB per month. It's still better than buying from the Samund Edu store and adding a good sim plan for a year (like the $89 catch connect sim only plan with less data).

      • the promotion doesn't state you will get the voucher, but just unfront?

We should assume paying upfront + monthly package. If Tel$tra ever charge us for voucher reimbursement, we can bring this up to ACCC due to misleading information.

        • +2

The receipt will show voucher used to reduce the phone to the corresponding upfront payment e.g. The S21 $0 upfront will show voucher of $1249.

  • I assume if I'm already with Telstra on a plan I can't do this deal, even if I were to cancel today?
Could I walk in and just get a whole new service and keep my existing phone?

    • No you can't do it before porting your number to other operator. Also, you have to wait 30 days after porting.

  • +1

Does anyone knows, if I get a new Vodafone sim card with new number today and then go to JB to port that. Would that be okay?

    • +1

Yeah should be fine, porting new number from other provider, why not.

  • -1

Worst investment of the year, drop 20% guaranteed in 6 months

    • +1

better than wife, drop in quality is guaranteed as well as taking your money out during the process

  • I can sign up with a new number yes? or do I have to port a number across?

    • +1

You can ask for a new number

  • awesome

  • Would the sale + bonus on the edu store in april/may be worth waiting for compared to this? This looks like a really good deal with ETC.

    • If you look at the S20 history deals, maximum discount I've seen at Edu down to April or May may go up to 30% only.

      • Yeah so I'm just looking at the bonus now which I don't think will offer earbuds on the edu store. Btw, any chance you know if a voucher fee needs to be paid for ETC?

        • +1

I am not sure because I haven't signed up for this deal under the new T&Cs.

  • Do JB arrange the $10 port in credit or do you have to speak directly to Telstra?

    • When I got my S20 FE on $99 plan from JB, I asked for a new number and they still gave me the $10 discount.

  • Just a warning for those who like customising their phones with third party launchers. There is currently an issue with Android 11 and full screen gestures that causes third party launchers to behave really badly (not a problem if you use three button navigation).

I recently bought an S21 ultra and didn't know about this issue. I'm now being forced to use One Ui 3.0 which is admittedly awful for me.

    OMG they finally awake…

please Mod put this on title before we have lots of crying threads next week

    • So even though the voucher fees weren't shown here

      https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0024/9803/5810/files/BYO-M…

is it confirmed for sure that this s21 plan with ETC will have $500 of voucher fees charged as well?

      • duh, see my link, it is the updated version yours is the old…. why you keep bringing up that one…

        • chill, I saw that as well and I just needed to confirm. I knew it was too good to be true, thanks for the info dude really appreciate it!

        • since when Telstra collecting money on behalf JB?

          • @dts88: good question. but again how jb supposes to collect the voucher back from us, we are out from the store with phone in hand.
unless jb send debt collectors ….. or bikies……

            • +1

@CyberMurning: Telstra adds that $500 voucher fee on your bill (for JBHifi I guess).

      • I think @batrarobin 's experience is sufficient confirmation (for me).

    • Updated, thanks!

      • hmm many are 1st timer on the deal so probably you should write:
beware now you may need to pay ETC and repay Voucher when cancelling the plan, read
        insert link…..

        • +1

well, to be safe, just go with S21 ($0 upfront)

          • @webtherapist: you are technically still receiving a "voucher" otherwise you cant get the phone for zero dolla
