Just noticed oil in my front wheel well. Closer look it’s a split CV joint boot. Car is 13yo with 180k km. Would that be normal sort of lifespan? Or did yesterday’s little off road jaunt put a little too much pressure on them when I drove into a rutted section and lost traction with front an opposite rear wheel leaving the ground?
CV boots. How long do they last?

That’s what I figured, just not sure if I damaged them either during the off road work.
Crossing up shouldn’t damage them. Depending on your particular vehicle it could be possible to pack dirt/mud onto them which can damage them, it’s also possible to have tree branches or other debris damage them.
