Where to Sell Collectable Coins?

I have a few mint rolls of $1 and $2 coins I want to offload.

I haven't sold sold anything on eBay for years but just found out eBay has 11% fees after sale, so no to eBay. And I have only ever sold things on gumtree locally. If I sell on gumtree is it safe to give out my bank details for deposit if someone buys? Or is Gumtree just a local area thing?

Gumtree = face to face (somewhere public) and cash only (standard OzB advice)

  • So these are uncirculated coins (mint has a different meaning) with a value under $100 each roll, I’m supposing?
I’d probably try Facebook marketplace and gumtree with a price a little higher than the eBay sold prices and a “pick up only -cash only” message.
You’ll still get people seeking to scam you, but you’ll probably find somebody who is decent too.
Otherwise, there will be numismatic dealers, but they will offer lower than the eBay price inc fees.

If there is something valuable about the coins (like thousands of dollars) you might have to go to a specialist site or eBay to realise the full value.

    • Yes uncirculated would be a better word to use lol
I have many many rolls of 2014 $1 coins which have usually sold between $170 - $200+ each. I doubt ill get any real takers on marketplace, ill try to sell just one, and see how it goes. Thanks

  • eBay has a Policy on this…

    Collectable currency policy
    https://www.ebay.com.au/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-…

    Tip:
Don't indicate your Home Address or transact your sale at McDonald's either.
Meet inside a Bank Branch or a Post Office where there is CCTV, people and in daylight hours.

Ebay is not Scumtree m8 .
      You don't have a clue lol .
Most Ebay numismatics transactions are sent by post like 98% .

      • I never said eBay was Gumtree, never mentioned Gumtree…

You must be new here, there isn't any need for the abuse.

So, the OP didn't say they were going to dispatch via the Post either.
The OP didn't say they weren't going to transact face-to-face.

Please provide an independent Australian reference source for your 98% claim.

  • With a mintage of 6 million, the 2014 $1 coin is not very rare and would not have a value of anywhere near the price you have suggested - maybe $40 or so tops. This info is from Renniks coin guide 2020.
Forget dealers as they would likely not be interested.
ebay will charge 15% but they have the biggest audience

Post it on gumtree then take advantage of the free ebay final value fee listing gumtree offers. You can do this twice a month.

    • How does this work?

Have you looked at silver stackers? Might be interest there for face to face transaction.

  • I'd be interested in what you have.

Are any of them gold or silver coins?
