So this game is not just a simple re-creation with higher def graphics. It actually re-imagines the game a bit, a shortens it where it's needed, and fixes up the "boring" parts.

Pretty good value for money if you have never played half-life before, and fairly good value for money even if you had.

Half Life is one of the best games I've ever played. Agreed that if you haven't played it before, this would be a good deal.

I think the 3rd section (Xen) was all new / additional content. Played it through for the first time recently. Good story and puzzles. Action shows its age, to be expected given the original is 20+ years old.

      • I still enjoyed BM though the game is showing its age.

Since its a full remake, they should have done away with the loading times which aren't sped up by SSDs. It was innovative at the time, but modern games handle streaming in data much more seamlessly than HL/BM.

        • it's a remake but using the half-life 2 engine, which doesn't do streaming or seamless loads like today's openworld games.

          • @sangohan: yes, the problem is the HL2 engine is 16 years old.

At the time they started making this, other devs had already figured out streaming of areas seamlessly.

    • Correct, but it also lengthens some parts. Particularly Xen.

Well worth it for the price! Great game

  • Great game still. Just stop playing at Xen. After an hour in, I was asking, this should be the end right? 3 hours later, I was still asking that.

Xen wasn't bad but outstayed its welcome. And then it spent the night. And still refused to leave the next morning. It's one of those annoying guests at a party that won't leave no matter how many subtle hints you give. They just continue eating your chips until you put up flashing neon lights saying GTFO. That's Xen.

The original Xen was bad, but at least it was short.
