Cheap Half Price ATKINS Bars from The USA (and Other Vitamin Products Inc Protein)

UPDATE : Shipping is now $6.99 for 3.4Lb As at Nov 2012 so need to adjust maths accordingly

Price = $US1.60 Shipped for 25 bars or $US.75 for first time orders with code.

How?….

A few months back I discovered a USA vitamin site when I was searching for Atkins Protein Bars.

These cost from around $A4.80 each here in Australia if you buy from Woolies or Coles (depends on type of bar you buy)

Buy buying these from the US you can get these for around $US1.60 each shipped to your mailing address.

The products available are slightly different than the ones you can buy here.

In Australia the Atkins Chocolate Decadence bar is 60g and costs $A4.80 each

The available US equivalent is the Dark Chocolate Decadence 44g Bar which costs $US5.44 for 5 = $US1.10

Shipping is $US2.99 which gives the cost as a shade over $US1.15 each (But that is delivered)

Equalising the weight 44g vs 60g (roundly 40% more in the Oz bar) makes this around $US 1.60 delivered.

BUT….

The $US2.99 shipping allows you to ship 3lbs of goods. Which equates to 5 boxes (25 bars). Their website can calculate the cost of shipping as you add products.

Allowing currency costs etc this was at least half the Aussie price

But wait - thats not all.(LOL)

By using the refer a friend link below you can save $US10 on your first shipment. So the first trial is even less per bar.

With the $US10 off the average bar price was US$.75 each DELIVERED

They also have some great specials time to time on different vitamin products.

Unless you order 1 item greater than 3lbs where the shipping jumps to $US14, for just a small amount over the 3lb. And goes up as the weight increases if you want more you just place another order. (although you can check this before placing the order) And try to maximise the use of the 3lb shipping charge to keep the average price down.

Below is my referral link where you can get $10 off. I also get a $10 credit for referring you. So we both win.

However if you do join up, you can create your own referral link for friends and I have no issue if you post your link below. So members here can choose which ever link suits them. And maybe also you can post your discoveries here on other products that can be found

CLICK here to use the referral code

http://www.vitacost.com/Referee?wlsrc=rsReferral&ReferralAct…

This has also been cross posted to the wiki for future reference http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/category:food_grocery?&#tip…

Also you can buy these from iherb. They are slightly more expensive, BUT you can get 4lbs shipped for their rate of $4.00 Again you can save $10 on your first order with my referral code QAZ216 if your total order exceeds $40. http://www.iherb.com/?rcode=QAZ216

So just do the math. iHerb will give you a further 5% off if your total exceeds $60 so depending on what you order and total weight sometimes it could be cheaper. Plus your $10 off makes at least one order worthwhile. And we are into bargains aren't we.

BTW with Vitacost
Also dont forget to add in up to 2 free samples with each Vitacost order you make. Nothing really great, but hey they are free. You can find free samples here

  • Sounds very appealing, but I think I would have to try the bars locally first to confirm that I like the flavour.

  • Local price in Woolworths is $2.99 for a 60g bar (not on special as far as I could tell).

    • I checked my local Woolies and found that the 60g bars were $4.45 each and the 34g bars were $2.95 and Coles is similar in price (sorry didn't have a pen with me and left the phone at home)

      This could mean

That your local store has incorrectly priced these
You misread the price tags for the line below/above
My area is ripping me off

Either way shipping from the US is cheaper BUT in your case maybe not as big a saving.

      Have you tried one yet?

      • Hey Ozpete, $2.99 for a 60g was the price I paid on my receipt and on the shelf. My local coles also had the same 60g bar for $3.45 (or $3.49 -can't remember which).

I will give the Chocolate Decadence bar a nom tomorrow and let you know what I think.

      • I found the Decadence bars quite horrible with a really strange texture and after taste.

However I do like the Day Break bars and buy a lot of them. Okay I went direct to the site. Buying 6 boxes (30 bars) works out at $1.36 each delivered. I only ever stock up when these are on special at Coles or Safeway when they are at $1.69 (they are usually jacked up to $2.29 or more) so for me this is a saving of about 19%. Which is okay but nothing like the headline 50% saving on this post.

Personally I don't think its worth the hassle.

[EDIT] Sorry I forgot about the $10 off. This makes them $1.02 each which is pretty good. But probably still not tempting enough for me but others may find it a good deal.

      • Would look like there are difference prices for different States, so sorry about headline savings as this reflects the prices I pay locally.

That said it was supposed to reflect savings off normal prices not specials, which in both cases, requires you to buy in bulk to cover the no special periods, when you want to eat these. (in your case 40% vs my case 50+% - based on 2.39 vs 2.99 for the Daybreak bars)

I would agree with you on the Decadence bar, which my wife likes, I find them rather heavy and gluggy. But the US version of the bar, is different in taste, its lighter - more aerated that the local version. My wife initially didn't like the difference in size as well, but now realises that smaller means less calories and the local bar is hard to cut up, to have half later.

You might want to give them a try given there still is some saving. But like everything food wise, taste varies for people.

        • Noticed that the shipping cost has now gone to $Us5.99. When did this happen? anyone assist

          Thanks

        • I think you mean $6.99. It was recently, BUT at the same time the shipping package size has increased to 3.4lbs vs the past 3lb.

  • +1 thanks. used your referral and got some Vit d3 and Adrenal Therapy shipped for $8.62!

  • except…. I went to pay and got this: This recipient does not accept payments from non-US PayPal accounts. ????

    • +1

Yes a credit card is needed. I used the 28 degrees card.

      • Just bought 25 bars, cost a bit less then $1 a bar. Great deal ozpete. I used your refer a friend link so you should get your $10 voucher soon too

  • Thanks mate, I used it.

  • Thanks also,

I used this for some Atkins bars which I love. But i also found Folinic Acid tablets (Iron supplement) that I used to order in Australia for 800mcg tablets that cost locally $40 From Vitacost its US$8.07 and I get twice as many.

Have placed my order and will update you on when I receive them, but its looking very promising.

Love to know any other bargains people find here. MaryRose

  • +1

Thanks Ozpete. Just placed an order.

And if you purchase thru ebates, there is 8% back

  • The Chocolate Decadence bar tasted good (7.5/10). The texture was like dense foam but I didn't mind it. There is a slight bitter aftertaste which reminds me of one of the B group vitamins, but not overly objectionable.

  • Sounds like a good deal to me, i have just bought one bar which is on special at my local woolies(Parra) for $2.21….If i like the tase then definitely going to order few.

    • +1

Well its even better this month, they are giving 10% off on all Atkins bars over there already low prices. Time to stock up a few

Remember make orders of 5 boxes as this is best value for shipping. 5 boxes = around 2.9lbs which gives cheapest shipping at 2.99. If you want more place another order.

  • Nice find, there Burt's Bees products are very generously discounted too! A normal beeswax balm is about $6.00, but on here is $1.50, and they have a range of other Burt's Bees products- so if purchased together its a really good saving!

    • Actually, I take that back…. they don'y ship any Burts Bees products internationally!

  • I received my order today so It took just 8 days to get here
I just tried the cookie one and it really does taste like an Oreo - only less sweet ( which I prefer). Oh - and the cookies expire in aug 12, if anyone was wondering. Will try the other ones ( all cinnamon/apple variants) and report back. Not too bad for 6 boxes of Atkins for $26 shipped!

    Thanks again ozpete

    • I also agree the bars are so much nicer in flavour and variety than the local bars.

    • Glad you found it valuable. BTW you can also post your code here for others to use. I see Maryrose did the same in a post on the main page. Its all about people sharing and everyone gaining. Just because I am a mod and posted my code, it doesnt mean that others can't, but only once please. So go ahead get some bonus as well.

      • Thanks about the code forgot to post that here

      • After the new rules for referrals, do we have to remove our links here or are they ok since they were done before the rules were changed?

        • No. Also this was an invite to post these by me in the first place, so I wont be complaining.

  • Just received my vitamins today. quick delivery.

    • If its not too personal, care to share which bargains you found?

      • +1

Vit D & Adrenal stress end. $15 delivered.

        • Thanks for the tip. I got mine as well and the prices are great

  • Thanks ozpete.

I am waiting for my first order to come through.

For anyone else ordering, I found that their tracking links (in your account and in the shipping emails) don't always work - one link gave me a "not found" error and the other was to the wrong courier. But putting the tracking numbers in manually worked okay.

In the meantime, to take up your offer, here's my referral link if anyone wants to sign up and save $10:

I'm not a big fan of protein bars but ozpete's post got me thinking.
Usually I buy optimum nutrition protein powder and the cheapest protein i have found in AUS is from these sites.

    10 lb optimum nutrition gold
    ebay.com.au - $134.95 = 13.50 per lb
    nutritionwarehouse.com.au and sportyshealth.com.au - 149.95 = 14.99 per lb
    mrsupplement.com.au - $159.95 = 15.99 per lb

However using Vitacost's refer a friend deal you can get optimum nutrition gold standard for $9.50 per pound delivered

    Here's how:
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Double Rich Chocolate 2.07 lbs - $25.99
Delivery fee - $7 (for < 3 lb, anything over shipping gets ridiculous)

    $25.99 + $7 = $32.99 - $10 = $22.99 for 2.07 lb delivered.

Now refer 3 friends/family members and order the protein through them. Vitacost doesn't seem to check the address or credit card, only the email address. I have referred all my family including my dad twice accidently, using the same address and credit card. So techically you could create unlimited referals using different email addresses, but i'm not recommending you do that :)

    So
    $22.99 * 4 = $91.96 for 8.28 lb

    $30 credit from the referals
    $25.99 + $7 - $30 = 2.99 for 2.07 lb

    total = 2.07 lb + 8.28 lb = 10.35 lb for $94.95
    thats $9.17 per pound delivered

If you're going to order some protein feel free to use my referral link :)

Hmm, after two successful orders I now have to add some reservations to using this company.

A friend of mine used my referral link and placed an order on Jan 22nd. My own orders all arrived within 10 days but it has now been 17 days since this one was placed.

No tracking information was provided by Vitacost and my friend emailed to ask about the delay. The response was very poor. Firstly it says "we are not provided you with tracking information for orders shipped via DHL" then says the following:

"If you do not receive your package by Tuesday, January 21, 2012 using tracking number GMxxxxxxxxxxxx as reference and can provide us with proof that the package is not being held by customs we will be glad to issue a replacement for the package. If you are unable to provide this documentation we can issue a credit for the items minus a 20% restocking fee."

So there is in fact a tracking number (which only shows it left the US on Jan 24th) but how on earth do they expect my friend to provide the proof they have requested? So 20% of the order value plus the shipping fee will be down the drain.

I don't think I will use them again.

    • +1

I understand, I had one order which hadnt turned up after 3 weeks so i enquired and I got the same response as you. But it did turn up 28 days later so all is god. Given that this was one of the $8 shipping items which is DHL to somewhere on the west coast, then by post after that, its one of the risks with the lower cost shipping options. I have had the same issue with a shipment by iHerb.

Not many suppliers using post give any guarrantee after posting. And while they use DHL for part of the shipment on a $8 shipment it does say on the system its by Post. Now if it was the $20+ shipping, then this would be an issue

      • BTW Iherb has free shipping for the next few days

    • BIG RISK.
i USE VITACOST regularly for supplements.
their practice is bad and their responses could be better.
so far I ahve not lost anything.
      a gamble.

      • How come you think there is a big risk when you haven't lost anything? Or have I misunderstood your post?

  • +1

I would avoid any of these types of bars, not because they are expensive for what they are even at 1/2 price, but because they are unhealthy. For good food information, read weston a price foundation website.

    Great post mate.

I ordered a few boxes in December when you first mentioned it here and they've been pretty reasonable.

I only bought the advantage ones as I wanted the higher protein count. My favourite was Advantage Double Chocolate Crunch.

Will look to order another lot soon and try out some other varieties.

If anyone feels like sharing the love a little, I've added my referal link below:

    Thanks guys!

Sweet! Just bought some ON Gold Standard!

I'm stumped on how to make the referral code though. Anyone able to explain?

    • +1

You need to go to "refer a friend" then logon, and generate a code via your facebook page - that then becomes your referal link. Otherwise its an individual referral code for one person at a time.

Great, got 200 fishoil and 180 multivits for $26 delivered, bargain.

It was packed well and everything was there.

Things that i found that were much cheaper were (everything is much cheaper, but these are standouts):
Probiotics, much much cheaper then in local stores.
B12, necessity for vegans, and in better forms then are available locally. (methylcobalamin is much better then cyanocobalamin) Deva is a totally vegan and trusted brand http://www.vitacost.com/Deva-Vegan-B12-Sublingual (im not vegan but i have a friend who is)
Use my referral link if i helped =)
    https://www.vitacost.com/MyAccount/CreateAccount.aspx?wlsrc=…

      • they are necessary if you want to gain hard muscles

I train 2 hours in the gym per day minimum and need max energy

        • Then you are working too hard, there is no way you need that many supplements for energy alone.

      • trust me , ive trained with and without supplements. And energy supplements make a big difference, especially with the concentration and endurance which is needed when pushing hard in strength training and cutting cycles

Dont forget that caffeine and green tea extract help with fat burning. Yohimbe is usually added with them but apparently its banned in Australia for its stimulant and aphrodisiac effects in very high doses.

  • I'm trying to find herbalife QuickStart pack, that Dnt seem to have it :( wondering if there is another site that may have it and deliver to oz?? It's $256 here and only $72 in the USA.

    • +1

Isn't Herbalife a MLM type distribution? My guess is that they have strong teritorial restrictions on shipping as part of their agreement. I know there is a store in Puerto Rico that ships internationally, (use Google), but its Via MyUS, so they are technically shipping to the US. By MyUS adds a bit in shipping costs

  • SHIPPING IS NOW $2.99

    • My thread informing of the new discounted shipping seems to have been declared a dupe of thread for some reason..

  • You may want to be careful with importing food and health stuffs.

Firstly, quarantine restrictions - if you're importing organic stuff AQIS may be keen to have a look (and charge you for the cost of that look).

Then you need to make sure if you're getting vitamins etc. that the product is legal in Australia. Certainly if it runs to steroids you're likely to encounter problems.

Obviously to some extent this is a question of risk/benefit - most private mail doesn't get inspected too closely. But there's also the question of whether you're prepared to break import restrictions and potentially introduce something new and bad to Australia (importing seeds that happen to carry a disease, for instance). You may want to have a quick look at the relevant websites to check - Australia has a lot of pests now that have been innocently introduced in just such a manner.

  • Anyone know why the protein deals that were posted last night on Ozbargain have been removed?

    • i noticed that too.. maybe cos it was due to taking advantage of vitacost erroneously applying cheaper shipping option due to understating package weight (10lbs as 3lbs etc)

  • The OP of those deals requested they be removed because of communication from Vitacost

  • As far as I can see, the $3 for 3lb deal has ended and is back to $7 which is a bit of a bummer.
