  • Is this just for flights out of Perth?

    • At the moment, it does seem like it's only for flights out of Perth.. but no harm just checking prices (I've randomly put in a few dates and the price seems standard. eg. Melbourne or Sydney to Singapore for approx $1150)

It's a humanitarian mission to help get people out :-)

  • airline webbie seems to be giving me a db error… :(

  • are singapore airline really better than the other carriers? this price doesnt seem that great.

banning him would be against the freedom of dumb speech.
just like we spit mouthfull to joolia, but she's still there.

so the best way is - to use our voting system :)

    • For the same dates in July and August, the Perth-Singapore return leg of the journey was $1150 with Qantas.. so almost half price for the dates i was looking at.

    • Compared to MAS, I find the food to be comparable, service better, and the planes newer. The A380 is a nice plane.

I think it's still expensive as other airways will be on sale around that period - June until Sep.
Flight from Perth to Singapore is very short or even to Thailand.

Last year I flyed with Malaysia Airline, it was only $600.
And a couple year before with Thai airway for $700.
All of them from BNE to BKK which was longer flight.

I think they should do better than this from Perth.

      • +1

correct, from perth, they should do it around $500 or less return

    • I traveled with them earlier this year and I had no complaints. For me, Asian airlines have the best food and they were no exception.
But when I traveled my tickets (which were also from a sale) were $1350 return to Amsterdam (they were the same price to Paris as well) so this doesn't seem so special.

I've flown business class Sydney to Singapore maybe 20 times. 10 with Qantas or BA, 10 with Singapore.

Put it this way - on Qantas you get a gay host who is 40+ who thinks service is something he'll do when he lands with his BF.

BA they just don't bother serving at all.

Singapore Air its all hostesses, all <35 and all smoking hot… Very friendly, very good service.

I've heard good things about Emirates but never flown them - Singapore girl you are a great way to fly…

      • +1

Yes both Emirates and Singapore beat Qantas pants down for service be it business class or cattle class

      • +1

hahaha, you remind me on my first flight with qantas, i have to call them three times just to get a glass of water, it was in the middle of the night. no one else ordering food or drink at that time. what a joke.

        • Youre asking too much mate lol
its probably cause after ansett went there was no domestic competition for the flag carrier position

        • a glass of water mate

        • LOL yep Qantas service is crap.

In the middle of the night you can press the button requesting service and watch a full movie before anyone comes to help.

I wouldn't have minded the service Ralph Fiennes received on Qantas a few years ago, but as a general rule their service puts them below most carriers…

        • actually i went to their service station after i press that button and no one come to my seat, when i asked the water, the cabin attendant told me back to my seat and she will deliver my water. honestly, i am so thirsty, thats why i have to come to their service station to get the water. once is enough, i prefer ansett service.

    • I fly with them a lot. They're really good

    • In answer to the question, yes, they are much better than most other airlines. You will know what I mean if you ever get to travel with them.

Looks more expensive than the last great SIA sale which had fares eg. SYD-BKK for $648. Ex-PER I'd be expecting $300-$400 rtn (eg. Jetstar current sale PER-SIN $348 rtn not incl meals/baggage so add for these)

    • +1

Jetstar price looks good, I would personally pay the extra and fly Singapore Air.

    • Ex Per the prices are much higher than you might expect. It's not just a matter of distance, airfares take many factors into account. On a full service airline such as SIA you will not often get deals below $600. I think last year they got to 500 only once, and $600 is a real bargain.

Just like how sometimes it's cheaper to go (for example) ADL-MEL-SYD than MEL-SYD… Airlines don't always make sense

  • Amazing! 9racey is the best (not at wwf though)

Lets say if your baggage is over the limit by a few kg, you're expected to pay a hefty fee - with Singapore Airlines

    • +7

I just came back from Vietnam (via Singapore) with Singapore Airlines.

My bag was 4.3kg over with no questions asked, this has happened before.

In my opinion SA is still much better than Thai or Qantas. The hostesses (Both male and female) on SA are top notch. Very enjoyable experience.

      • I used SA and I was about to be charged $320 for excessive luggage weight until I had to talk to them to lower the price bc it was ridiculous (end up paying $120). Yes I was carrying a lot coming back home. As with Qantas, I was on a trip to LA and the luggage was over the limit was told to pay $200 for luggage, until they offer free of charge.

    • +1

Generally the full service carriers, especially SIA are much more lenient with baggage limits than the LCCs.

Qantas are getting tight, but most of the others are still relatively relaxed

    • been flown many times from beijing /shanghai with SQ, most of them over the baggage limit, none of them asked me to pay excess baggage. on the ticket most of them wrote 20kg, most of the time, i brought around 25-30kg. but i won't said it will always work, may be because i always flown during off peak period where most of the time the flight was 25% empty.

  • Thanks OP. Some of my family wanted to go back to Egypt for a few months next year so this looks like a good time to book. I just checked, and it's $1650 return from Brisbane which is great. Last year we paid $1850 and that was booked through a friend that works with the airline so that was the cheapest we could get. And some friends of mine who are over there right now paid $2100 just a month ago.

But yeah 1650 is really great :D

    • Glad to be of help. I was pretty stoked when i booked mine!

    Why so expensive lah

      kiasu ar?

Really meh? This is the best deal in Singapore, J.B. & some say Batam

Thanks OP, managed to book a flight back to Singapore for cheap in November 2012. Here's a tip for anyone who's travelling with an infant - GO FOR A FULL SERVICE CARRIER. Just came back from SIngapore last month travelling with my six month old daughter, and the staff from SIA just made the flight a more pleasant experience, going out of their way to make sure everything is ok, keeping food for one parent so that the other parent can mind the child whilst one is eating, and just all the little niceties that made the flight as enjoyable as it could be. My wife and I are convinced that the we will not be travelling with a budget airline as long as our daughter is under 2 years old, so to get a cheap-ish flight back to Singapore with SIA, couldn't be happier..^_^

  • Do they fly to South America?

Melbourne > Argentina would be ideal in Sep. 2012
