Over 10 Years of Driving, how many time you claim insurance?

How many time getting in the car accident to be called a careless driver by habit?

If you get into car accident more than 2 times, was that a habit?

    No, everyone's circumstances are different.

    What kinda question is this?

If you caused the accident, then you were careless and caused the accident.

      Random.

Sounds like you are at fault if you needed to claim insurance? If so, pay more attention when operating a vehicle.

If you claim, because you parked you car and came back damaged, then wouldn’t say you are careless, unless you parked illegally.

  • What yours?

Keep in mind that sometimes someone not being technically at-fault doesn't mean they're blame-free. Insurance companies have started recognising this more recently by asking applicants "how many claims… " (either at fault or not) rather than "how many at-fault claims…" a person has had and factoring that into the calculation of a premium.

They should ask details of accident as well. I've been in 2 accidents, both times were people driving through red lights, with witnesses and hard evidence. Why should I get punished.

Agree , i had an accident where some (profanity) put some paint/slippery substance on the road and my car lost traction and i clipped the side of a rockface.

Reported the incident to the police first thing before calling my insurer , insurer at the time said my no-claim bonus would be protected as i paid extra on my policy for it to be protected and it was not my fault. expensive day but i thought nothing of it till i got my next years premium which was several hundred dollars more expensive then what it originally was.

I called up and they said the customer service representative was mistaken and gave me incorrect information and that "they were sorry" LOL.

Never trust a single word your insurer says , just go with the cheapest option and ALWAYS shop around EVERY YEAR.

      • The insurers are in the business of making money. Each claim you make costs them money, regardless of fault. So if you already have a history of claims, even if it's just bad luck, they see an increased chance that you will be making claims in the future (costing them money).

  • 0, but then I have only covered <10,000 km per year and a lot of that would be high way.

If you are a professional driver I would be surprised if you have zero accidents. High level of kilometers and also time you drive (peak hour, sun rise, dusk) would increase your chances of being in an accident (fault / not at fault).

  • 0 in 20 years yearly travel around 10k to 15k per year.

Been driving for 16 years, have been in 5 accidents, not a single one my fault. Does that make me a careless driver?

    • Same here; also 16 years, and four not-at-faults between 2015 and 2019

Depends how much you drive and the areas you drive in. I’d wager minor collisions more popular in cities but serious more in rural areas.

Help yourself to avoid costly accidents and high premiums….

Arm yourself with as much skill as you can if you want to avoid accidents.
Just watching YouTube crash compilations can be a great source of what to watch out for and how to drive to survive.
From over 50 yrs of private, sporting and commercial driving with only one not at fault claim here are a few tips …

Allow space. Tailgaters are the #1 fools of the road.
Drive at a speed to suit the environment, not the max that is sign posted.
Focus, pay attention 100% of the time. If you need to fiddle with something then pull over and do it.
Be ready for other drivers to do the silliest thing possible. Rarely they disappoint.

If you think you have amazing driving talent then get on the track and show it there. Racing mums going home with the groceries is not a heroic act and impresses no one.

I don't think they are out to impress anyone. It just seems they get tunnel vision thinking that no-one else matters except their child(ren).

  • I've claimed twice in over 30 years of driving. Once when I was rear ended at lights and once where I got caught out in hail.

  • I’ve had 2 at fault claims in my youth, but nothing since. Last claim was last century. This century I’ve had not at fault twice. Technically not mine as both on ‘my’ company vehicle, one of them was a hit and run.

My wife has had one claim in the same amount of driving.

Had a couple of minor mishaps repaired by myself, just minor panel damage.

  • 0 my fault.
2 other driver fault - with one car written off.

  • Had one no fault (other drivers fault) back in the '90s
And one due to hail damage.
    Been driving for 40 years.

  • In 45 years, I just had a small one, but I reckon I had the right of way as I was at the intersection first; and I was over the give way dotted lines for over a minute before the truck driver decided to butt up to the other semi. I was right up under the other semi and when we went the other semi did not let me go, he just ran over the front of my car a little
