[VIC, NSW, ACT, WA] Rebellion Bay Spiced Rum 700ml $36.99 @ ALDI

170

Imported from Trinidad in the heart of the Caribbean, Rebellion Bay Spiced Rum is ideal for savouring neat or mixed with dry or cola for a refreshing change. A nice rum to drink.

My favourite way to drink it is a Dark & Stormy 🍹
Put heaps of ice in a tall glass
Add a shot or 2 of rum
Top up with ginger beer
Squeeze of fresh lime
A splash of lime cordial
Garnish with a slice of lime
Optional - Some people add a few splashes of bitters

Currently $45 at Dan’s, but they will likely beat it once it goes on sale.

On sale 24 February 2021 in selected NSW, ACT, VIC and WA stores while stocks last*

    37.5% ABV.

    Excise is $87.58/L.

    (0.700 * 0.375)* 87.58 = $23.02

    $36.99 / 11 = $3.36

Therefore: The bottle, it's contents, and every other cost incurred are worth: $10.61.

This is why we can't have nice things. Our gov is a money hungry tax stroking (profanity)

That’s why I was surprised when last time my Aldi had this they cleared it half price.

Do you post this in every alcohol deal?

I think most of us are aware of the taxes we pay, but personally I tend to not worry and enjoy the good things in life.

      • +2

My point was more along the lines of the actual cost of production leaves very little room for “good.”

  • what's the "36.99/ 11" part all about?

    • GST is 10%
      Item without gst = price/1.1
      GST only = price/11

    • +2

And you should also notice that GST is charged on top of excise. Yup, tax on a tax. How good is that?! (in ScoMo's voice)

Very smooth rum, although fairly sweet.
Very easy to drink. Mixes well especially with lemonade, iced tea, ginger beer, juice etc.

I have stopped drinking this and moved over to Baron Samedi as it is similarly smooth but less sweet. Would also recommend Bati rum.

Interestingly for those watching there sugar intake, the sweetness from Rebellion Bay comes from the vanilla as it contains 0g of sugar, where as Baron Samedi contains 21.17g/L of sugar.

I find Rebellion Bay to be similar in taste to Sailor Jerry but smoother.
