Bing Lee Cabramatta appear to be closing down.
Popped in and took a look around and noticed the Sony NEX-5N twin lens kit at a special price of $850.
Can't see this deal online, so I'm assuming it's only for this store (unless someone else can confirm other stores have this price)

I have no idea if this is the closing down 'special' price, or if it's part of the boxing day sales as I didn't bother asking.
The price is there.
It saves having to wait for postage on the VideoPro deal and being not too much more expensive either.

  • Very Good deal! and this this camera is awesome, specially the speed!
Wish could get the Nex-7 with this price …(big wish)

    • big wish here too. Nex-3 feels so crap now. -.- Modern Technology always makes you feel bad and pay more.

    • Maybe when the NEX 7n comes out, though considering the 7 is only making its way onto the market now, it may be two years from now, at which point we will probably want the next generation of cameras =)

btw, what speed do you speak of? I'm considering getting this camera, but it is for the sensor, not its speed lol. I think the speed will suffice unless you take photos of moving things.

      but $45 postage…

getting to Cabramatta isn't that hard. Max $10 for your driving.

  • nice that they made a NEX5 and NEX5N… talk about planned obsolescence

  • Tempting price! Too bad I am already a Sony a33 user…

I was so tempted to upgrade my a33 to NEX-5N… but my 35mm F1.4 lens is too good to sell…

    • buy la-ea 2… amazing adapter, fast AF … perfect for your A series Lens … I am using my 5N with 16-50 lens with LA-EA2 … and sold A77 as I couldnt see any reason to keep it.

      • +1

But you lose the hotshoe, EVF and body IS.

        • Good point mate :-) Thanks

  • soz didnt notice bout the shipping cost.. btw have anyone know which one better for value and specs etc between NEX 5ND with Olympus E-P3?

    • IMO… nex is a better choice… large size sensor… great design … and if you have A series lens, use la-ea2… you will find the question will be: does nikon D7000 better or NEX 5N lol….

    • That really depends on what you plan on using it for and how you shoot. If you are planning on having the same zoom lens attached all the time, you have to decide whether the extra bulk is worth the improvement in image quality. If size is a concern, you're better off with a high end compact camera as the required lens for the same range of zoom on a 5N or E-P3 is fairly large.

Then there are questions like whether you shoot in low light? The larger sensor of the NEX and whatever software they have put into it makes it a great camera for night time photos, though some people are having issues with auto-focussing in low light.

I don't think you will know which is better for value until you handle one with your own hands.

  • i have this camera and so so so happy about it.
    Highly recommanded.

I bet half the people here are afraid of stepping into Cabramatta.

I bet half the people here are from Cabramatta…

if that was true, cabramatta is good in daylight. Go grab yourself a sugarcane drink and a pork roll and it kinda feels like Vietnam.

Good sugarcane drink is around the corner.

There's also outstanding Pho everywhere you look! :)

Only problem with this camera is the overheating sensor when shooting video, and the clicking noise when moving around during video.

  • I'd suggest this price would be available at other BL stores too. If you just mention BL Cabra have it for that price - no reason they wouldnt match it.

  • From what I've read, the clicking noise can be fixed free of charge by any authorised Sony repairer.
I bought this camera through the VideoPro deal (worked out to be $840 expressed shipped).
Awesome little thing coming from a P&S.
Always wanted to go DSLR (originally had an SLR and damn I miss the quality) but never wanted to deal with the size.
Loving the small frame of the NEX-5N and the kit lens are bloody awesome when you compare them to P&S cameras.

  • are the twin lens package the same throughout the series? if so then how much for the body only?

  • Bing Lee closing down? i guess part of the reason is there's already a store down the road at Megacentre Liverpool.

    • Maybe, there's one in Fairfield too lol

But I mean the megacentre one doesn't seem as busy, but I think it's a lot bigger than the Cabra one, Cabra one is a bit small now… but it is a hot spot for people getting off the train.

  • Guys, I bought this camera 1.5 months ago, and I love it!!! I have my full DSLR with most of the lenses {(6 lenses :-)}and now the NEX 5N. For its size and prize it is one of the best if not the best out in the market. 10fps is one of the highlights to for me, unbelievably fast, high ISO handling with very low noise is another bonus, do it in raw and use PS Lightroom its a magic then the video @1080p with DSLR size sensor its just amazing. So far have had no issues with it…
I bought mine in late Oct 2011 for $899 (-GST) when I was travelling from Town Hall Sound Centre Sydney -
The price was unbeatable then, not a single store agreed to sell that to me be then for under $1200. at Town Hall Sound Centre, I got it for $899 and I was leaving the country next day so they agreed to have it delivered to my place, I thought that was an outstanding service. These days its very difficult to get decent customer service from stores and these guys were amazing.
I'm sure they can beat Binglee price. Give them a call on (02) 9283 1705 and ask for Gordon, I think he's the owner or he's boss there he'll be able to help you out

    • Sound like a very good "semi-slr" camera (Ultra lightweight and compact with interchangeable lens). I am looking for one (also got SLR but quite heavy to carry at times)
      Sony website http://www.sony.com.au/product/nex-5n

    • Gordan is definitely the man.
I bought my T70 camera from him a couple years back. Terrific service. Coincidently I've just lost that camera and will be getting another camera from him.

  • Do you know if there's deals on other DSLRs/ goods?

  • +2

VideoPro have the twin lens kit for $824 with free shipping.

  • For those who are so tempted by this deal, google "Nex5n video click sound" problem. This is why there are so many "deals" on this model when it just came out less than half a year ago. Sony will deplete their inventory before they start to sell the "new" products with bugs fixed.

    • what's the video clicking prob?

  • They will fix 'video clicking' problem free of charge…

    http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=439&md…

It's an amazing camera and I highly recommend it to anyone looking at a new camera. Shoots fantastic FULL HD video as well!

    • If you are happy to send your new camera to them to fix the problem, which they could have simply recall all the products on the market, please go ahead. Otherwise, I suggest you either buy NEX7 or wait for a while so the market will deplete those with bugs.

  • OP is right, Bing Lee IS closing down in that suburb, a mate of mine headed over there, lots of great deals.
