How Do You Hide Certain Posts?

For example posts where you need to give your soul away to a buy now, pay later mob.

I tried the show less filter in the options but they still come up.

Otherwise mods, any chance these can have a special flag that allows users to filter them out easily?

  • There is a "Hide" link on the bottom right of each post which can be used to filter.

Yeah saw that, but it doesn’t have the option to hide what I’m after. Namely deals where you need to sign up to a loan shark pay later scheme to get the discount.

There’s more and more of these, and I can’t figure out a way to filter them out. The experimental keyword thing doesn’t seem to work.

      • Do you mean afterpay? Can't you just block all afterpay deals?
Edit: yeah you're right, in the Hide menu on an afterpay deal there was no option to hide afterpay deals, just the store and the user who posted it.

Under my "Deals" settings https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/[youruserIDhere]/edit/deals …

I added a Title Tag for "latitude pay" and "latitudepay" and set them all to "LESS" - seems to have worked for me.

This of course assumes that the title is correctly set up in the post to begin with, but I just report any that aren't (e.g. this morning one that had "Lattitude Pay") and once they're modified they disappear again.

Also worth noting that the setting mentions it's a Front Page setting but I always browse by New and it's working there too.

    • Cheers, I was trying to edit the fields on the 'blocked' tab in settings and it wasnt working on pc or mobile.

Yeah those shit me. Just mention once about a voucher. We don't need to know every bloody item that the store sells.

    • +3

It’s always one post for the voucher/code in general, and then 1 post per every different colour and capacity sized iPhone option that is on sale…

      • Yep. I dont mind the original post even though it doesn't interest me. Its the rest that annoy me

    Put them behind your shed

I have set up one for afterpay, but they still appear. Afterpay deals are littered through computer deals right now.

    • Are you using the title tag filtering as per instructions here? This shouldn't show you any deals that have [Afterpay] in the tile.

      • I cant post images, but yes Afterpay is in there.

I am not sure if it is a case issue.

If you type Afterpay into the field, it makes it lower case, where the slider is.

        • Just for clarity, filtering works on new deals & front page. Not for category pages like Computing.

          • @neil: If that is how it supposed to work, then yes. My Front page has a low amount of afterpay deals. I saw one looking recently.

But if the Afterpay mess is to continue site devs may want to look at moving the tag block to lower levels, computing, electronics, gaming etc.

They certainly took over the site to the point of being ridiculous. Came in here to find out how to hide them.
Surely we don't need every singe one posted and I wonder if they could of been treated much like the click frenzy or prime grouping sales.

The cost to Afterpay to subsidise this must be reasonable big as the BNPL market gets ultra competitive.

      • Yep, I never bothered blocking tags and just ignored posts until this afterpay mass spam made the feature essential.

There are 2 things you need to do

      • Add "afterpay" to your front page personalisation, slide it to the left-most, and "Save Preference" at the bottom of the page. This will remove most deals with "[Afterpay]" on the default front page (not the old ones). It also does not affect the category pages like Computing.

      • Go to Afterpay Day event page, click on the 3-dots menu, and select "Hide on New Deals page". It would remove all deals tagged with Afterpay Day on the New Deals page.

  • I hate those latitude pay/after pay site too. Like one post about new user get $25 off spending $100 in a certain store (say JB Hifi) is fine, but not random, full price item just listed as a deal because of this new user benefit.

    Question I got is:
I have already added latitude pay under my account setting as per screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/bt5MGZd

But i can still see it under New deal: https://imgur.com/a/lhVMYDX

    Is 'new deal' unfiltered?

    • That was just an issue with that node. The title tags exceeded the 20 character limit, so it appears the filtering did not apply at all. I've edited/fixed that post now, so you will no longer see it.

Title tag filters do indeed apply to new deals, not just front page.

Title Tags will match keywords inside square brackets ([ … ]) at the beginning of a deal's title. Multiple tags in a deal title are comma-separated. Note: this will also apply to New Deals page, where deals with low priority title tags will be filtered out.

      • Thanks hamza23, so I assume this post https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/627664 will also break the filtering as it's longer than 20 characters?

        • Yep, looks like that was 1 character too much. I removed the space and now it works.
