I have this model. It's been in the garden for about a year now and has worked fine for the most part. Main issues with the unit I've experienced are:
    1) The accompanying app, through which you connect the base station to your wi-fi, is awful. Feels like it was made 10 years ago and never updated.
    2) Whenever it loses power (which is relatively regularly out here) you have to manually add it back onto the wi-fi - it is incapable of remembering the wi-fi settings if it has power-loss.
    3) Some questions over the accuracy of the rain meter. We had a sizeable weather event here (south coast NSW) last year and my readings were considerably more than those taken by other units in the same vicinity.
    4) The wind direction is fair too sensitive to provide accurate readings and flips about in the lightest of breezes.

I found the birds liked to perch on it so I added some cable ties around it to discourage them and this seemed to do the trick. I have mine connected to the main weather services and enjoying keeping track of the weather conditions here.

    • Thanks for the useful feedback 👍

    • Which app did you use?
I’m struggling to get it connected to an app.

    • What batteries do you use in the sensor module? The instruction manual says to use alkaline batteries but that seems…wrong to me given it is receiving power from the little solar panel?

Weather service view app then use weather underground make sure your phone is on 2.4ghz WiFi.
Mines been great it remembers my wifi usually only time it didn't is when it lost power for a few days I accidentally unplugged it. It does have a battery backup in the main unit. I think the batteries on the outside unit are also for backup as it uses the solar panel to charge a capacitor inside the unit.

My biggest issue has been spiders living in the rain guage.

  • Looks like it can upload data to external servers. Wondering if i can get uploaded data from those servers and avoid buying it myself. 😀

  • I’m trying to work this model out. It has the sensor set up of the GW1001 but the display of the Wh2900.

    Probably goes alright though.

  • Bought this unit a week ago, I'm having constant issues with the outdoor sensor unit dropping it's connection to the console. Sometimes it shows all outdoor data, sometimes none at all and at the moment it won't display temperature readings. It's only 8 metres away from the console so distance shouldn't be an issue.

Sounds weird. I'd get in touch with Lucy at Ecowitt. Their customer support is pretty good in my experience, though I've never had anything faulty or needing replacement under warranty.

I've got the HP2553 and have found it rock solid, even with a total of about 15 extra sensors at the moment.
If you want a display, i can definitely recommend the HP255x series.
Ecowitt (aka Fine Offset) also sell the same kit via other distributors. If you can combine with a good ebay coupon, Pantech can work out cheaper, then buy extra sensors caring the Ecowitt brand via Amazon.
