Efficient or Economic Fridge with Delivery (70cm by 70cm by 170cm)

Looking at options of buying a new fridge.

I guess something a normal size not massive but not a small bar fridge.

Main criteria would just be it can be delivered and brought in the hose and is very economical to run and purchase so something very efficient energy wise but also not expensive.

I'm doing research now on the different types of fridges.

I guess we are trying to avoid two door fridges and prefer ones that open to the right as there is limited space for movement on the left of the fridge when looking at it so it swings to the right.

Can't find details on the current volume in litres of the current broken fridge but nothing big we just need it to store an average amount of groceries so honestly on the small efficient size is best also aiming to get something light as there is problems with the floor but that is another story.

I know how bad this sounds but yeah I'm just looking for a replacement fridge options for now while I get quotes to fix the refrigerator compartment as the freezer compartment is still good and working but the fridge section is 18 degrees Celsius atm and not cooling at all.

Repair will probably be cheaper but I'm getting my options ready in case we decide to just get a new one and replace it.

Kogan seems to have some starting at $349 for their cheapest non bar fridge.

It needs to be upright but can be anything but twin doors.

So anybody seen some good deals on simple fridges or recommend any fridge repair services in the blue mountains nsw.

Edit : dimensions are 70cm by 70cm by 170cm and it is a Simpson brand but we are open to any brand or models just no twin door design that opens to the left.. Needs to swing to the right when facing the fridge as the left has a window and limited space due to a wall

Looking for the most economical option and or most efficient just needs to keep cool a few vegetables and groceries and a few frozen foods in the freezer nothing major but larger than a 125L bar fridge as a bar fridge is too small for our purposes.

Thank you

First thing you need to do is measure your fridge so you know which ones are options for your fridge-hole.

Good thinking let me do that right now.

The dimensions of the fridge is 70cm by 70cm by 170cm.

There is no fridge hole but a similar size fridge would be perfect.

We could have maybe an extra 10cm on each dimension added and up to 30cm on the height so our shorter members of the house can reach the top.

So final total maximum dimensions are 80cm by 80cm by 210cm but preferably 70cm by 70cm by 170cm or smaller but not too much smaller as the current size is just right.

The current fridge is a top mount fridge with freezer at the top and fridge at the bottom with the fridge being larger in size compared to the freezer but I am open to other styles of fridge design except twin doors where the fridge opens out to the left and right we prefer one that opens up the right as left has less space and is next to a window so chance of someone swinging the fridge door hard to the left and breaking a window is high.

Thanks sorry for the wall of text.

Find your current model number (likely a label on the inside lip of the door )

Then google it to see current size and dimensions. Then you'll have something to work from to compare what you have now.

An 'average' sized fridge and shopping amount aren't common measurements for others to work off.

    • I checked the inside and outside and couldn't find any information except this (normally I know there is supposed to be a sticker with a nice set of information like volume, power, space size, weight, dimensions etc but this one does not have it).

  • appliances online deliver for free, not sure on blue mountains

    • I'll have a look then

  • Got a fridge repair service coming in tomorrow will see how it goes might not need a new fridge but have found some on gumtree for cheap but getting them delivered is the hard part.

Will try keep you guys posted.

    • If the freezer is working I think you have a different problem to what you are imagining. Most fridges, especially smaller ones only have one cooler circuit which is in the freezer, and cold air is redirected from the freezer section to the fridge side. The freezer section is in direct contact with the freezer coils and is much colder than the air transferred to the fridge. I would assume you have a mechanical problem like a blocked transfer passage or faulty fan, rather than a refrigeration fault.

If you are looking at a new fridge, be aware that a lot of doors are reversible, it is just a matter of unscrewing the hinge and positioning it on the opposite side.

  • I have fixed my fridge a couple of times with the same problem. Try this first before buying a new fridge.

Remove everything from freezer. Turn fridge off. Put a towel double folded in the freezer. On top place a pot of hot boiled water. Close the freezer. Wait for at least half an hour. It will depend on what you have taken out of the freezer. Eat the ice cream before it melts.

Take out pot, wipe down, put freezer stuff back in, turn fridge on. If it was the same problem it will take a couple of hours for the fridge to get cold again.

Do it twice a year as maintenance. Alternatively, turn the fridge off for 24 hours, which is what the manufacturer recommended me to do rather than sending out a tech. My method is quicker and achieves the same result.

If it is the same problem and you call someone out, they will just use a hairdryer to do the same thing.

  • So what did the fridge guy say?

    • He didn't turn up I got scammed lol

  • Merged from Recommendations for a Fridge for Very Small Household

In the market for a simple fridge just for a 2-3 person household.

    What's an ozbargain worthy fridge?

Before you recommend a bar fridge I initially wanted that but it just isn't enough for our total storage demands so we are just going with a normal size fridge for now for simplicities sake.

Current fridge dimensions are 74cm by 70cm by 172cm and is 339L refrigerator size and 103L freezer size so about 440L gross volume.

Freezer could be a bit bigger.

It is a Simpson brand and is a top mount fridge.

Any good recommendations on what to buy or what to avoid in the fridge space?

Don't need anything else fancy just a working cheap to buy and run fridge.

    Simple.

    Will need delivery within NSW.

LG fridges are rock solid in my experience. You didn't mention what you're found so far, nor your budget.

      • Budget is cheapest I can find aka I'm not spending more than I need to on an appliance to keep things cold and from spoiling.

So the lower the cost to buy and maintain per day the better.

Looking at a $380 used SR510ELS right now + $100 delivery no idea if it works or has any problems might get swindled like I did on the weekend might not.

        • "Cheapest I can find" and buying used is a terrible fallacy for saving money. Do not buy used unknown product with no warranty.

          • @Hybroid: What if the fridge is like $15 almost free I just gotta figure out hour to transport it.

Too large what will I ever do with all that space.

    • bar fridge has terrible energy economics

      • Which fridge has the best economics.

Yeah I know the wattage to storage space efficiency is not ideal but honestly I don't know which fridge is.

Looking for the Nvidia GTX 1060 Ti equivalent of Fridges.

Or maybe even 1050 Ti equivalent.. Low power to run still does an OK job.

    • What about one of those Chiq ones appliancesonline flog? They got 5 year warranty

  • Did you try my defrosting method? Could be a really simple fix.

    • Not yet.

I tried turning off the fridge last night and I think it was off in the morning before I left for work but when I got home it was plugged back in so I might have to try doing it on the weekend or something because I have no frustration energy left or patience to do it during the work week.

Honestly I might just buy a new or used fridge this fridge thing is giving me a headache.

To repair it I am getting a quote for $121 just for a call out and 30 mins service fee but the guy sway me around and pretend to fix it for 5 hours and then that $121 will turn into a new fridge worth of "hourly" fees because people are dbags.

So yeah I might just get a new or used working one.. there is one guy offering to deliver his 628L samsung fridge for $350 he lives same suburb but it is double door and 628L might be too big for us.. I see another for 550L for $840 something that looks ok.. then a few at 400L range for about $600ish I think not sure but yeah.

I really want to know what is screwing up the fridge.
