      Kids aren't buying this.

    • +6

Or you can do that and I'll buy the nes lego

      • -5

        And do what with it?

Lego was originally meant for kids to use their imagination to build any combination of things. Now it seems it’s designed for middle aged people to follow predefined steps in sets to build one model that I guess just sits on a desk never to be touched again. I just don’t get the appeal to adults.

        • +3

Fun to build, especially the more complicated sets.
Displayability (yes I know that’s not a word).
My kids love playing with the modulars, role playing and creating stories.

The MF for example is a great build experience and looks awesome displayed on a custom plexiglass stand. I enjoy looking at it each time I enter the room, as do others. That’s worth something.

        • +3

Those kids that it was aimed at are now middle age and buy things for nostalgic reasons, i understand your rasPi reference i have built a few but i've been in IT for 20+ years so to me its fun to others in my age bracket who get nostalgic about similar things from their childhood it's unlikely that it would be their cup of tea…You try and explain why the rasPi didn't boot or even display something and no it's not faulty… because it has no bios and the bios needs to be in the microSD card to someone who isn't in IT or a techy…. they'd be like wtf you on about can i just go back to building my lego please?…

        • +2

I am guessing on that theory then every statue built then should immediately be stopped?

After all, that involves an adult planning, following instructions and constructing a model for it to just sit there and never be touched again.

          • -8

@spuderump: Statutes aren't mass produced pieces of plastic.

It's amazing how defensive Lego fanboys are.

            • +1

@PainToad: I'd rather this and a few other Lego sets in a display cabinet rather than old tea cups, vases and other random things that people collect. It all comes down to what you want your house to look like. Some want old antiques. I'd rather a few display cabinets with lego and some LEDs lighting them up at night.

              • -1

                @richadam:

old tea cups, vases and other random things that people collect

That is a good analogy. I can't see the value in them either but. Guess it's just how I am. For the price is needs to "do something" other than just sit there.

                • @PainToad: Same sentiment i have for people who work in my team…lol

                • @PainToad: For this particular product, it brings back memories. That's priceless. The excitement of buying this, to taking several hours to build it, to admiring it is worth it for a lot of people. If you are not a nostalgic type of person, that's fine. Likewise, you would make purchases that make no sense to other people.

                  • -3

@shiny1: If you want nostalgia, why not actually play NES games? This has nothing to do with the NES.

            • +2

@PainToad: It's amazing how much you care that people are buying this when it doesn't have anything to do with you. Why are you so invested? Did you marry a Lego addict or something? Maybe a close relative stole your TV to feed their Lego addiction?

    • +3

I find the activity relaxing and meditative (in that it clears my mind).

At the end I have something that is cool to look at and holds its value.

Perhaps you are being narrow minded regarding these benefits?

      Or I'm just a fanboy.

      • +1

^This. I work with technology and people all day long. As an AFOL, it's something I enjoy with my kids and also on my own.

Sometimes I even just find it cathartic to tear down a build and sort the pieces. YMMV.

    • Or you could just keep your opinion to yourself and let people spend money on what brings them enjoyment rather than you forcing your opinion on how they should spend their time down their throat?

When did Karens become a thing on OZB??

  • +8

Because if I accidentally step on a RaspberryPI it will break. However, if I step on a Lego piece I'll break.

Besides, this set comes with a screen. Although, given the price, it is probably only 16 brick.

    • +7

      Mario is 8 brick.

    • +2

      Neither have Blast Processing though.

    • Omg hilarious. Hahahah you made me almost spit my morning coffee out. Hahahaha.

Another way you could have said it is:

If you accidentally step on a rpi you will brick it.
      But…
If you step on lego it will brick you. Hahahah

Omg im gonna be laugjing at this joke all day. Hahahah thank you

  • +3

It is not about playing the game or building a nest system. Some people are into lego. It is a collector edition.

  • -1

this will be collectible and sell out in 2 hrs.

    • How much is 1 credit worth?

      • 1 cent . But also used 6% off gift cards found at some merchants .

  • 43179 Disney Mickey Mouse & Minnie

Is it just me, do they look a bit spooky (i.e. in the Chucky family of toys)?

    • wow, im a huge disney fan but even im gonna give that one a hard pass

    • +1

Have a light facing up on Mickey and leave it in a dark room :p

    • Saw - the Mickey saga

    • Looks a bit like they are anti-covid ready. Haha

  • I hope they do not pull these off the shelves from stores.

I was in Myer Melbourne last week and the boxes on their sets were tattered and torn. The cables used for theft prevention was killing them.

    • I agree. Totally destroy the look

    • Oh damn, I opted for click collect as I was worried the courier would chuck around the box. Now not sure if I should place another order 🤔

      • Before you walk out just make sure the box is in mint condition.

        If it is for collecting.

        • Half half, I won't be opening it for 3 years at least (thought it might be something cool for hubs to do with the kids), but if it has resell value by then, I would sell and get something else.

Edit : would you also happen to know if there's a time limit you can get missing bricks from Lego? There's a few reviews on their page about missing pieces but I'm worried that if I find out in 3 years time, they won't send it to me

  • Awesome price and free delivery. $263 with 6% off Gift card.

  • I still remembered well when I bought ps4 white came with an extra controller for that price at jb a few years ago.

can't believe a dummy with that price… however, it's still very tempting to get one…

  • +1

I had to read the title twice before I saw "Lego". Looked like a real NES in box at first glance haha!

  • Does it run crysis ?

    • +1

      Yes.

  • To all Lego experts - do you think the NES set will get cheaper as it's a fairly new set that just came out? should I wait for pricedrops? thanks

    • Unless it's on a clearance shelf, I doubt it.

      • damn….thanks. must….resist….

    • It be around for probably around another 2 yrs . Many merchant have it so definitely will get cheaper and not on my shopping list . I can get it $242 and no way I will buy it .
Who took out my targeted stuff ? I try to make an effort to get in store .

      • where/how can you get it for $242?

    • +1

It was recently 40% off at Hobbyco ($209.99) about 2 weeks ago as part of their 40% off Super Mario Lego range.

      • DOH!!! Didnt know about that…

      • Was that deal posted?

  • +1

Thanks, got it. I had my eye on this lego nes for yonks.

Even the missus didn't complain. Everything's coming up Millhouse !

    • No cashback though, $5.09 from CR

  • Can confirm Zing will price match. Had to check with their manager as they have it on their shelf for full price.

  • Bought the NES from Myer on the 4th via click and collect. Still not ready…

    • Same.
Site says 1- 2 days ready but this is Myer.
They probably hired like 1 guy to do all of the online orders.

      • Still nothing. I wish i thought of price matching. Got it for the long weekend, i would have thought Thursday morning would have been early enough.

        • And….still waiting. It’s taken 4 days to get from Melbourne CBD to Myer Knox.

If I’d known Knox had no stock I would have picked another store, or even gone to the one it was being transferred from. Pathetic.

          • @lostwasgood481516: Are you looking to collect or to build? I picked mine up today and didnt take it out the bag because it was massive. Got home and yeah there's a pretty big "dent" in the box at the back from the security tag. Was gonna buy another for delivery but is now out of stock

            • @MeesusEff: I gave up on Myer on Sunday and got it at Zing who happily price matched. I am halfway through building it, haven’t noticed any box damage but I’m not collecting/displaying.

              • @lostwasgood481516: I got an email from Myer to say mine was ready to be picked up from Knox yesterday (ordered 4 March).

  • NES is now showing out of stock at Myer. At Toys R Us for $279 https://www.toysrus.com.au/lego-71374-super-mario-nintendo-e…

    • $15 delivery :(
