Wi-Fi Mesh Systems

Hi all

I'm looking at purchasing a mesh system to extend coverage in my house. At the moment I have a standard Asus rt-68u router to deliver my internet.

My question is, if I purchase 3 nova nodes can they all be distributed in the house whilst my Asus router still has the main WAN connection and ultimately the master node?

Or does one of the nova nodes need to be the master node with the incoming WAN connection?

Cheers

Only one node has to be connected (via ethernet cable) to your modem/router. Rest of the nodes work off the master node via mesh system wirelessly.

Asus main WAN = yeah. Asus mesh master node = no switch off the Wi-Fi. With the Asus as main WAN the Tenda will be the mesh master node configured as a Wi-Fi access point. Tenda can also be used for the main WAN without the Asus.

To use the Asus as the mesh master node purchase a compatible Asus router and configure Asus AiMesh.

I am using the Tenda Nova MW6 in my house. I have one node as the master connected to the router via ethernet. The slave nodes are connected to the master node wirelessly. Seems to work quite well in my house. The router wifi is switched off, but it does the work of DHCP and routing. The master node is connected in bridge mode to the router.

    • So in your scenario, does your router five off any WiFi? Or is the WiFi from all the nova nodes?

      • It would be all the nodes. I do notice a very very slight latency when I am connected to the secondary node. As the secondary node needs to pass all web requests to the primary node to go out to the internet and vice versa.

  • ASUS AIMesh, just buy one more router and run in Mesh mode …

  • I have the cheap Kogan version -excellent reception everywhere!

    • Nice I saw those available with similar pricing to Nova. Any idea what the max speed is via ethernet?

      • 100Mbps.

Thanks everyone decided to go for tp link M4. So far so good. Using it without my Asus router.

    • So the Asus is working as main node and tp link access points are connected to it?

      • Yes it was, however the current arrangement is only the tp link system without the Asus router.
