If you ask you can grab them frozen. Seafood counters at your local supermarket are required to thaw out frozen products due to laws governed by the National Measurement Institute - long story short when buying frozen behind the counter products, customers are paying more for less essentially due to water weight when buying frozen products. Thus, seafood counters must thaw out frozen goods sold by weight to avoid customers paying more for less product. With that being said, lobster are sold by each and if you ask they can legally sell it to you frozen, they are likely thawed for convenience.

    • It's code for 'was frozen'.
