Was due to re-stock this for my dogs and found a couple of options.
Amazon are price matching MyPetWarehouse who have 25% off site wide bringing it down to $77.24. They also currently have 18% upsized Shopback bringing it down to $63.33 if you don't mind the cashback route or want a size that Amazon don't have in stock. 10% Shopback, given its pre-gst, better off with the Amazon 10% off with S&S.

If you want the instant saving, Amazon's S&S price is pretty good but not an all time low unfortunately.

  • Great price. I use one 10-25kg per month for my 8kg and 13kg dog, by splitting it using a syringe. So much cheaper that way.

This is a GREAT tip! Thanks, I learnt something new today.

      P S why a syringe instead of a blade?

      • +1

You use the syringe with a blunt tip to extract as much from the tube as possible. Then, remove the air. Then figure out the approx dose per dog based on kg, and then apply using blunt tip. Means you don't get any on your hands. Yeah it's a great tip I learned a few years ago and has saved me hundreds, still parasite free!

  • Thanks, ordered one.

  • ShopBack was only 10% for me. Still a good deal, Thankyou mate.

    • Looks like the bonus cashback has ended, will update. Thanks

  • Maybe an odd one out but I believe it's healthier for the dog (and cheaper) not to give an all in one. I give medication as needed. Worming tablet every three months. Flea treatment only on signs of fleas. Heartworm once a month but you need to take note of the toxicity levels of this, especially in certain breeds, along with the rarity and low prevalence of the disease caused by the heartworm in Australia.

along with the rarity and low prevalence of the disease caused by the heartworm in Australia.

Whilst this is somewhat true for places like Victoria and Tasmania where there are less mosquitos, I would be hesitant to make sweeping statements across Australia. Also, although it is rare, true hearworm infestation has very poor prognosis so it's better to err on the side of caution.

Actually the biggest downfall for Advocate is lack of coverage for ticks. This is for both paralysis ticks which potentially fatal (and exists all the way down to Victoria although it is rare); and brown dog ticks which was recently discovered to carry previously thought exotic disease called Erlichiosis.

      • What's the best way to prevent against these? Not walk after nightfall, spray the dog with something to keep the fleas and insects away, or stay in dog parks and away from bush?

        • +2

There are many tick preventatives out there. Most commonly recommended these days are the newer classes sold under Bravecto/Nexgard available as chews. Advantix works as well if you are looking for a drop-on.

Most sprays, collars are useless in comparison.

          • @CheapCoffee: Rightoh. I have 4 months worth of the Nexguard left. I'll stick to them then.

    • +1

Agree with cheapcoffee. Also it's Much easier to prevent fleas than to get rid of them. Although, Advocate is probably one of the worst products out there. Speaking from experience in animal rescue. The good ones like bravecto work effectively, and also prevent other nasties like ticks.

  • Does anyone know if the dog one is exactly the same as the cat just different concentration? Or is it chemically different?

    • +1

      Active ingredients:
      100 g/L Imidacloprid
      Cats - 10 g/L Moxidectin
      Dogs – 25 g/L Moxidectin

Same active ingredients, just a higher concentration of Moxidectin in the dog product.

Personally I wouldn't use this stuff on dogs. I volunteer with a rescue group and I've heard of a lot of stories of the topical flea treatments causing seizures. Anecdotal but in comparison there's only been a couple of cases of the tablet treatments causing seizures.

  • Many of these products are pretty hard on animals - some actually die. I'm just suggesting do some research - it's pretty scary. For an all wormer we found endogard which gets good reviews and no negative stories associated with it. I'd like to find a flea preventative that is relatively harmless too.

Advocate is listed in the link below as Bayer Advocate.

The first thing is see on your link is death!

We gave Comfortis to our cat yesterday morning and we found him dead this morning. He was healthy and only four years old. He was the best cat ever and we are heartbroken.

      I am truly shocked!
