Apple likes to block third party adaptors

Guess that's easier to type than "Apple enforces standards like IEC/UL 60950-1 and IEC/UL 62368-1"

        • Only for iPad pros?

        • +1

Which part of the standards does this adapter break or which part of the standard is Apple enforcing that stops this adapter from working?

        • +1

And how are there relevant to the data being sent from USB C to HDMI, or an iPad even acknowledging a connection to an adaptor?

Both IEC/UL 60950-1 and IEC/UL 62368-1 are safety standards and not related to signal or data processing.

    • Use screen mirroring with Apple TV

    • Does anyone know of one which would work? iPad Pro or Air 4 etc

      • i ended up buying an Apple adaptor one, $67 on kogan and ebay, it's pretty solid and not overheating when I tried to use both hdmi and usb :P

These seem to be on clearance. Replaced with a 3 port adaptor

Note it is maxed at 1080p

  • MSY sells that for this price since forever..

  • says put to 1080p would it work on 2560x1080

    • +1

May have to lower refresh rate to ~50Hz to get it to work,

doesn't seem to have concrete info

    • -1

      Probably not.

      • 1080p @ 60hz requires one DP channel
      • 4k @ 30hz requires two DP channels
      • 4k @ 60hz requires four DP channels

This adapter likely only supports one DP channel.

    • @gottacatchemall It works on my Xiaomi 3440 x 1440 at 59~60HZ. Should be able to display 2560X1080 at similar hz

I have one and it is a real pain with Kayo. Makes the playback really choppy. I would avoid.

  • Should i use this or screen mirroring?

    • Depends. Have a play with both. I used to use AppleTV AirPlay screen mirroring but there was a ever slight delay that I couldn't handle, so I just bought a long 5M HDMI with a USB-C adaptor and I prefer that.

    • Mirroring isn't fast enough yet with wifi, at least for me. Steam is ok with ethernet cables

  • Does this run Samsung Dex on Note 8?

  • Got one of these years ago didn’t work mbp2016

Now decide whether you want to HDMI or charge your macbook.

  • I bought one of these to take on holidays a while back to connect (Anrdoid) phone to hotel tvs to play netflix etc - worked fine

    • does it connect audio as well ? Can't see the port for connecting the audio cable.
