      Wow that’s pretty cool actually

  • And thanks for sharing OP!

  • Is it a limited run or discontinued soon? Why would eBay scralpers buy them up?

    • More Like ps5 situation

      • +1

There is a shortage of chips?

        • I believe so, if you do a quick search on ebay you will find the top seller sold 140 units at 80% premium within 2 months

          • @ozbbcuk: How do you see that? Sorry I didn't know you meant highest price I thought you meant most units sold :/

    • Surely Lego could ramp up production of these sets if they really wanted to. Would be a bit different than manufacturing the PS5. Almost seems like Lego is quite okay with the scalpers targeting their products.

      • Its a difficult logistic situation for any supply chain with scalpers (events tickets, sneakers or other merch, tech) - you know people are willing to pay more for your product but you don't really want to raise your price as it shifts your position on the supply and demand curve. Same thing with increasing supply - If you make twice as many units such that there will always be stock then either scalpers will buy them all (and possibly charge even more to cover longer inventory storage times, or for unsold units) or they will not buy any (in which case you've got twice as many units to try and sell, but the same number of customers.

I think you're right, and that if you're selling out of a product to (scalpers or not) it is the right thing by your customers to ramp up supply a bit, but its a risk you take when its scalpers that you just end up with unsold product. Its hard for a company to take a risk on wasting money because of a bad situation around scalping.

TLDR: I wouldn't say Lego is okay with it, just not a great way to stop it. Ultimately the only way to stop scalping is consumers to refuse to buy from resellers.

        • +2

Dude, its plastic brics NOT an artwork or a concert.

Lego could easily flood the zone, but they don't want to.

        • +1

Not much of any of what you're saying would matter… Are you saying that Lego is protecting the scalping market prices and/ or that scalpers would buy up all of whatever supply is available to start with?

The reality is probably in two things: logistics in production and opportunity cost.

Assuming a finite production capacity, cycle time would need to be devoted to producing more of a specific set. You should assume that for its established sets Lego has developed what demand is, and how best to deliver Just In Time s inventory. For all new sets there is a spike in demand over supply at the start, and that would outstrip production. They also do not want to have a huge amount of cycle time devoted to new sets as demand is unknown. Now, you could argue, as soon as it's known to be a hot product, they should increase production time. A) it's not like they have a bunch of lazy production lines just sitting around B) they would need to eat into production lines for existing sets for which JIT supply is known. C) once there is a boost of sets, demand would moderate towards long term equilibrium, and they are left with excess production which they need to configure back to something else, attracting cost and idle cycle time.

TL:DR I think Lego knows what they're doing

          • @D3m3ntia:

TL:DR I think Lego knows what they're doing

            Nope. No way.

From the stories I've been hearing from retailers, they're one of the oddest toy companies out there. I have to admit, they have a very complex line of stock, so that doesn't make their job any easier.

Most toy companies try to protect their retailers, but Lego goes in the opposite direction, supplying small backyarders and while limiting stock orders to traditional retail outlets. Even when orders need to be made months in advance, they still can't get it close to right.

    • I'd bet it'd be bricklink.com sellers.

I think you'll find the parts are worth more than the complete set by a reasonable amount and there's some in demand new items that come with this kit.

    Seems OOS already

    • while hope AZ restock again, and hope scalpers get choked with massive units they ordered

      • AZ should limit to one per customer.

  • +1

    what is AZ?

    • +3

This has been OOS for a few months at Kmart now

      • +2

I just bought one from Kmart online sometime last week, you just have to try it every morning, i guess they randomly put back a little bit of stock on the website each day. Not exactly sure, I just clicked on it one day, and it allowed me put in in the cart, so i try checking out and it works as well. That's how I got it at $69.

        • +1

That is what I did too. Check regularly for restock

    • Good luck ever finding one at the moment there…

    • If Kmart has it in stock that is…..

    • +2

yeah better pricing. keep an eye out on the weekend. they usually have fresh stock. around 20-24 for each store.

thanks OP. wouldnt get these without your post.

  • Thanks OP. I got the bonsai.

  • omg that's so cool

  • Of course I had to be in a Teams meeting the exact time the bonsai came back in stock :( Missed both the ozb and camel alerts nooo

    • +1

Consider changing the meeting app to avoid that frustration in future.

    • I saw the post when OP posted was tossing about between bouquet and bonsai, and then problem happened on production line and had to dash. When I got back both were OOS. :(

  • Thanks! Got Both before OOS
It's few bucks more than Kmart but Kmart orders get cancelled occasionally

  • When will LEGO 20% off sales come? Looking at getting some duplo for my 2 year old!

  • I mean, is this even lego? It's literally pieces of plastic almost completely premade in the shape on flowers with a very vague design reference to lego style.

    • Well the use LEGO pieces, some in creative ways. (like the pterodactyl wings as leaves, and pink frogs as cherry blossoms). I have these in a vase at home next to my other sets and it looks great!

      • -1

I'm not suggesting it doesn't look great (if that's your thing). I just think making premade pieces that are exactly the object kinda misses the point of lego, which is to build the object from generic pieces (mostly).

Each to their own. Seems expensive for what it is too.

        • There's not many pieces that are used as premade flowers in this kit. Car bonnets are used as petals, chandeliers are the buds of the flowers etc. etc.

    • Haha, this is actually exactly what Lego is these days…buy a kit, follow instructions to complete, give yourself a pat on the back, buy another kit and repeat.

  • +2

Kmart is restocked for Vic now.

  • -1

    Sounds like Nerds Valentine day.

  • -2

How ironic, "creator" but no creativity involved, just put together some pre-moulded shapes. :D

    • -2

Looks like someone who likes to spend money more than use of creativity doesn't like to hear this. :D

    • I'm with you dude. It's literally premade flower petals that you snap together. I don't get it. There is absolutely zero skill and time involved in building it.

If you just want some premade plastic flowers with no building required, they sell them for $2 at dollar shops… lol.

  • +1

Don't worry anything in demand Lego will eventually over supply .

  • +1

Just snagged the bonsai. Was 2 in stock when I ordered if it helps someone to grab the other

  • bonsai is in stock. 3 remaining at RRP.

    • My comment of the day is if AMZ simply send with the Lego outer brown box where possible ( creating double boxed with their box ) .
Imagine the savings on returns that would happen .
It wouldn't happen as god forbid we might know who the merchant is and they are in the business of data power .

  • I just ordered the bouquet from lego discovery centre. Fingers cross.

    • Just got the order ready to pick up confirmation. :)
