  • Is it compatible with phones with cases? I have an iP12pro Max with a Spigen bpu case and its a heavy boy. Dont want it slipping and falling off

  • +1

No - you need to have a MagSafe case if you want any MagSafe charger to hold your phone - like this one ….
    https://homekitaustralia.com.au/products/iphone-12-magsafe-c…
That's what I have on my iPhone 12 Pro and it works really well.

    • ahhhh ok then. ill give it a miss. happy to sit the phone in the cup holder lol

      • The other option is to just use a Qi wireless charger that will physically hold your Pro Max and case -
        https://homekitaustralia.com.au/products/wireless-car-charge…
or grab one of the new magPOWER power banks that we've launched - but I don't recommend leaving this in your car.
        https://homekitaustralia.com.au/products/magpower
These will just clip to your phone that's in the cup holder!
They arrived yesterday and I've been using and playing with them ever since - love them - very, very neat especially when we have them in tangerine HomeKit Australia livery next month. There's a blog article with a photo of the tangerine model coming up in a few days.

      • I have a clear Zuslab bumper case on my iPhone 12 mini and there’s no issues charging on my Apple MagSafe charger.

        • +1

Yes, that's fine but if you suspend an iPhone 12 Pro Max from a small plate in a car and then drive over a solid bump, you are asking for trouble.
If you use a MagSafe case it will be fine, if you have one like described above, it will fall off.
I don't want to tell someone it will be fine when I don't think it will be. It might hold but my experience is that it is more likely to fall off - especially the big phone + case.
          Thanks for the feedback.

@HomeKit Australia: I should also point out something that nobody will tell you.
The stronger the magnetic field, the lower the rate of charge.
We've experimented with really strong magnetic attraction but the output watts decreases as you strengthen the magnet.
So, what we did was to basically take a variety of magnet strengths and test each in the field. We opted as the production model being the strongest magnet that did not degrade the MagSafe charge. Once you go beyond the magnet strength we settled on, the charge output decreases accordingly.

  • Looks good - are there any mag safe car chargers that dont block an aircon vent? I just want to stick it to my dash.

    Cheers.

    • There are a few but the best bet is to go on to AliExpress and buy a high quality mount that fixes to your dash or other flat surface. I've actually taken an old mount I had and swapped it out with the vent attachment, so I've done exactly what you are asking. Do make sure you pay for a high quality mount though, otherwise they just fall off.
      Hope this helps.

    • It's a bit wasteful but you can get a cheap CD-slot mount that has the same type of ball-head, and then screw this charger into the other mount.

      • Yes there's a few options - but the CD option tends to be a bit bouncy.

  • It looks like the charger has a ball head, would you know what the size specs are for it. Thinking of trying to fit it to the RAM mount system.

    • OK just (manually measured one - it looks to be a whisker under 16mm diameter.

  • can you provide the link for the premium USB-C to USB-C cable 50% ?

As not coming up at checkout

  • Very cool wish there was one for my android tho. Thanks for the quick replies op

    • Yep - MagSafe is only on the iPhone 12 and it works really well. You'll need to stick with the Qi wireless car chargers.

  • Can I get two with discount and I believe shipping is one off ?

    • Code worked to discount both items.

      • Yes, I've amended the code so you can buy multiples, all with the discount.
        Thanks.

  • Got the delivery today, haven’t installed the charger so can’t say for sure about the magnetic hold but looks a bit low on strength. Also should have paid more attention to the ‘length’ of premium usb-c cable, it’s like <5cm. Anyway, once testing in car, will update

I've been using mine for a while now and it's perfect. iPhone 12 Pro max with or without MagSafe case works well !
