I Just Realised Picking My Own Items on The KFC App Is Better Value than Buying an Actual Meal

Can't be just me. I usually get the mixed feast but I realised if I build my own bucket it costs a little bit more but you get 12 nuggets instead of 6. What? I don't get it.

I guess it's the same thing as Hoyts/Village cinemas where it's costs more $ to buy a combo than to order each item separately.
Consumers are used to thinking that combo deals are better financially, but there you go.

      Behavioural economics.

I remember when I was in my very early teens and I asked for a popcorn and a drink as it was priced cheaper individually than in the combo. The cashier tried charging me the combo price. Deciding to get a sanity check on my calculations, I asked him the prices and what they equaled. Yep, cheaper than the combo price. But he was insistent he had to charge me the combo price. So I got the popcorn, did a lap around the line and got a drink on my second go through.

      What a joke.

Yeah of course! Did you know you can get a medium meal at Maccas and ask for a small drink and save 50c or something?

These places just rely on us to be sheep and rake in the cashs.

    • It's stupid but I never really thought about doing my own thing. Those (profanity).

    picking my own shit

You need an app for that?

  • +1

    Cheap as Chips…

  • delete kfc not RR

  • on the app build it own bucket is cheaper than buying family feast, and u can pick what u want

  • Usually order for 9 chicken with 12 wings at $22 or 12 fillet and 12 wings at same price. Good deal.

    • So I'm not the only one who loves the (profanity) fillet more?

      • fillets are the only decent piece from kfc

    • How do you manage to get 12 fillets and 12 wings for $22?

      • got to app, choose your location, then build your bucket, choose 3 choice of chicken - I choose 2x 6 wings + 1x 12 tenders total $21.85.

Oh tenders, I thought you meant actual fillets. Thanks.

  • This is not something new…

Tinkering with the digital version of fast food menus often comes up alternative ways to get items slightly cheaper/larger quantities or actually what you want. The combo packs are a marketing tool not necessarily best value.

I’ve never ordered the mixed feast
    4 chicken (10 combined chicken)
    6 tenders
    6 nuggets 3 sauce
    2 sides
    $24.95

Depending on what chicken qty/side qty you actually want and the $$$ you want to spend
Cheap as chips promoting their app (app only under colonials offers)
8 chicken (click the edit and change any qty to tenders for $0 extra)
    0 tenders
    6 nuggets 2 sauce
    4 sides
    $20.95

$4 cheaper - 2 pieces of chicken and 1 sauce less but with 2 extra sides

Or after adding to the cart reload the cart till the offer of
“You might like to add on”
“5 original tender add on $6.95” (plus 2 sauce)

    8 chicken (13 combined chicken)
    5 tenders
    6 nuggets 4sauce
    4 sides

$27.990 now $2.95 more expensive then mixed feast
With 3 pieces of chicken, 1 sauce and 2 extra sides

This can work with the smaller items too. I usually go for the app-exclusive Burger Combo Deluxe, but today I thought I'd give the donuts a go. Grabbed the $4.95 fill up, saw the Complete Treat box @ $12.95, figured I'd see what I could find in the app - ended up adding a bacon and cheese fillet burger for $6.95 and a freeze for $1 - same price as the Complete Treat but with a tender instead of two wicked wings, and bacon and cheese on the burger.
