  • It's ridiculous how the Big Four still think bank fees are a norm and waiving fees can be run as a promotion.

It's not a good deal as:

    1. Interest is only 0.01% for balance under $50,000; and 0.05% for under $100,000. That's ridiculous!
    2. Since when not charging for EFTPOS, phone and internet transaction is a "feature". I don't think any bank charges those fees.
    3. You still pay for non-Commonwealth ATMs transactions.
    4. You need to deposit $2,000 every month. I know you can just deposit your salary but really, there are heaps better deals out there.

If you're after an everyday transaction account, off the top of my head, HSBC is 10 times better than Commonwealth Streamline Unlimited Account. No fees for ATM (4 withdraws from all ATMs per month + unlimited from HSBC ATM), higher interest. Yes there is less branch around but let's face it, when was the last time you were at a branch. Not to mention you can deposit money/cheque from Australia Post now.

I voted negative because the product isn't good but if you have to go with Commonwealth somehow, maybe it's good for you.

    • I guess HSBC does provide a good deal but the issue with HSBC with me is that they don't have a branch anywhere in Canberra. So I guess this would be a good deal for those who don't have access to HSBC.

      • Exactly, HSBC does not have many branches but I can't remember the last time I walked in a branch. I live in Melbourne and when I need to deposit money I just go to the post office.

But yes I agree some people need to have branch access, therefore HSBC is not for them. But what I am saying is, shop around to get a better deal. I'm sure even the Big Four would have a more competitive product than this.

        Good find though, thechengman.

  • i agree with your comments cacbm

    pathetic excuse for a promotion

    • But the sad thing is the majority of people, probably none of OzBargain user, but just people in the society, still bank with the Big Four and pay bank fees thinking there's nothing they can do about it.

  • This is rubbish.

Get the Bankwest Zero Transaction account
    Zero ATM fees everywhere.
No fees for over the counter

    There's a branch in Canberra.

  • Sorry I'm going to have to add -1 to this as well. Nothing personal, and it was a good effort for posting but the deal just isn't any good. I've had a chip on my shoulder after realizing that my complacency had cost me hundreds of dollars in fees over the years (I had a Comm Bank account ever since the old Dollarmite days). $5 a month for getting practically nothing! Now they're trying to "compete" by offering the same rubbish interest but with no monthly fees. To top it all off it's only fee-free for a year. HSBC FTW.

  • BOOOO HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

By the way, I love Heritage Building Society.

I am in Victoria, and they have no branch here.. haha.. so I can withdraw from any ATM at any time no extra charge. I also have a linked high interest savings account linked to my savings account. No fees on the account. I can also deposit funds at any post office (no charge obviously).

    Good stuff ;)

  • Back in old days, putting your money in the bank is the great way to save and earn a nice interest (well at least your money grow)…

Now, pfftt.. put the money under the bed is the only sure way to keep those greedy banks chipping away your hard earned monies.

  • Go HSBC or Citibank, both offer fee free transaction accounts and you can use any banks atms.

    • I find it ridiculous that most of my friends, or most people for that matter, are restricted to their bank's own ATM. They have to walk a block or cross two streets and wait in a queue just to withdraw money. Whereas I just withdraw whenever, where ever I want. :)
