  • Anyone know the die type of these? Or is it just luck of the draw?

    • I know HyperX usually uses Samsung dies, but it's not clear exactly what dies are in this kit

    • -1

      SK Hynix. 2 DIMMs okay on AMD, but don't expect much. 4 DIMMs… well, let me put it this way, I bought Kingston HyperX FURY RGB for my AMD system initially. Sold them all fairly quickly at a loss.

      • Care to elaborate>?

        What did you replace them with?

        Cheers

        • I went for Micron E die based modules (Crucial branded). Obviously, Samsung B-die is the best, but too expensive for me.

              @AircraftFreight: I already have 64GB, so I am not going to go back to 16GB or 32GB or 48GB for the sake of having B die.
              I paid much less for E-die per GB. I am not into the DDR4-3600 hype train. Or overclock to DDR4-4400 with a voltage bump (you probably need to lock the infinity fabric FSB).

              Good deal for B-die though.. if you are after 16GB kit(s).

            • @AircraftFreight: That link appears to be to 2x8gb for a total of 16gb whereas the OP is for 2x16gb for a total of 32gb.

          • @netsurfer: what was wrong with the bad ones?

            • +3

              @magnitude: Probably benched a few points lower than someone on UserBenchmark.

              • @[Deactivated]: You really think someone opted for DDR4-3200 care about benchmark? Read my other comments to find out what happened.

              @magnitude: I'd guess they're into Ram overclocking so probably weren't achieving their desired results on the Kingston ram with Hynix ic's.
              They'll do the job for us mere mortals ;-)

                @CheapGit: In short, cannot get 4 DIMMs to operate properly (though to be fair, I had 1 pair RGB, 1 pair non-RGB - stock issue at the retail store and I wanted 4 DIMMs). By the way, issue was on my AMD system. On my Intel PC, they ran well.

                Long version, read my other comment.

              @magnitude: I went for 4 DIMMs setup and was an early Ryzen 3xxx adopter (early version of AGESA isn't great). I went for 1 non RGB pair and 1 RGB pair (thinking they should be the same). Had A LOT of issues with the non RGB pair. With a lot of testing, I found that pair worked fine on my Intel BUT simply failed memory test on AMD system (and failed quickly) and NO OVERCLOCK, just 3200.

              So, go back to the shop and get a replacement pair right? Guess what, the store's test system was a cheap Intel system (and I already mentioned my test result on my Intel system) so no surprise it did NOT fail any mem test whatsoever on retailer's Intel based test system. I had to pay the re-stocking fee.

              It was a mistake (and lack of prior research) going for 4 DIMMs on AMD (without knowing that means you need above average RAM modules if you opt for 4 DIMMs on AMD bases system). Later on, on OZB, heard a lot of people raved about Micron E Die modules so I tried them. Not only they easily reached their target and worked fine with 4 DIMMs, they have good overclocking headroom.

              Because I had bad experience with 4 DIMMs with these, I just don't feel like recommending them. I had no issue with the RGB pair at DDR4-3200 on AMD system (in 2 DIMMs setup - thus my comment 2 DIMMs with these are okay) so when I eventually had 4 DIMMs of Micron-E, I had no need to keep the HyperX RGB. 32 GB RAM modules aren't cheap so might be worth getting better ones (even if that means paying a bit more).

  • Are these bigger than non-RGB HyperX Fury sticks? Those were the only one that (barely) fit in my ITX build, but I'm looking to upgrade

  • Does anyone know whether this is any better? Or are they the same?

      Based on a forum post:
      Ver4.31 -> Samsung 8Gbit B-Die
      Ver4.32 -> Samsung 8Gbit C-Die
      Any other version: no info (so don't assume Samsung Die)

      If you get B-die, then it is still a decent deal (if you are after B-die). C-die is not as good as B-die and it isn't really worth that price in my opinion. But, even if it is C-die, it would be better than this (but that's why those cost more).

  • How would this compare? I have an amd 5800 system.

    • Sorry my bad, i just realised the original title is for 32gb(2x16). Happy for a mod to delete my original comment.

          There's no 'mission' mate, just a mistake not reading the listing properly.
          I tried to delete my original comment but cant see a button to do so. If you are a mod, feel free to do it for me. Thanks.

  • there are 4 slots on my board, would that be better to install 4x8 to utilize the 4 channels or 2x16 is fine?

    • 2 would be better.

      • Apparently 4 is better for Ryzen - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UkGu6A-6sQ

          The consensus in the replies to GN in the comment section seems to be that it's the total ranks that make the difference (more being better). 2x16 is equal to 4x8 as (most) 16gb sticks are dual rank and 8gb sticks are single rank. But 2 sticks has better stability.
