FTTP nbn down - Optical Cut

Hi,

My FTTP NBN link went down yesterday around 3pm.

The NTD shows red on the optical link suggesting there it’s lost connection and a cut somewhere. (No on my property)

Neighbours seem unaffected. But one neighbour building next to us had sparkys onsite at this time.

Has engine experienced similar and what is NBN restoration time?

It was reported to the RSP at 4.

Thanks

  • Which RSP?

    • Exetel, but RSP still have to engage NBN

  • If you are on a residential plan there is no eSLA. My guess would be about a week for NBN to come out…if you are lucky

  • About four weeks.

  • No physical damage on sote. Where else could the cut be?

  • Last time it happened to me it was around 8 hours - but they took out a whole area (100+ households).

    • Yeah, this appears to be me only.

      Could the NTD have failed?

Can I rule out the sparkys messing things up next door? (New build)

  • Had a mate up here had his cable chewed through by a rat. Twice.

  • -1

But one neighbour building next to us had sparkys onsite at this time.

    clutching at straws

  • We had a contractor accidentally snap the fibre right next to our modem while renovating an adjacent wall; the connection was intermittent so it took us a week to convince the NBN that there was an issue (we'd tell Telstra, they'd tell NBN Co, who would then do a remote diagnostic test; they got some data return from the modem, so the solution was to turn off the modem for a day so they couldn't detect a working connection), but once that happened they sent a technician out I think 1 or 2 days later; the guy confirmed the issue, grabbed a roll of fiber and replaced the run within an hour (just stapling it to the bottom of the roof overhang vs running it through a ~25m long PVC pipe with multiple bends attached to the roof overhang because he was in a hurry). Looked a little dodgy but the fibre doesn't care and the connection works fine.
