First Home Buyer - Offer Accepted. Now What?

Hey guys,

Just had an offer accepted on my first house which is exciting. Got a building inspector arranged along with conveying etc.

Excluded in the chattels is the fridge and washing machine. Any bargains to be had on these items non-second hand?

I also need home insurance from contract date. Any recommendations for the cheapest rate?

I basically need everything from cutlery to manchester.

Also does anyone have any tips for a first home buyer? It's a scary and brand new time in my life.

Thanks.

    Live in your home?
And ride the Australian housing bubble rollercoaster while you spend the next 30 years wondering if you've bought in at the right time or is it merely FOMO.

But good on you for making the jump

From what I've read, Darwin and Hobart have had the highest rise in price nationwide. I thought COVID would reduce the prices, but they've just been on the up and up.

In Feb, Syd and Hobart went up 2.5%!

We know everything goes in a straight line don't we?

You going to spend it without selling it?

      • Its just media hype.

Seeing home insurance is dependent on address and type of house, unless you want to post your full address here, best you get quotes online from a number of well known insurances - search for home insurance in the search bar for any deals.

5 Adelaide Avenue, Deakin is the address.

But yeah may have to just look at quotes.

      • Very nice indeed. How's Jenny going?

Congrats. The joys now of home maintenance and many visits to Buninngs for snags and bits for the house

  • Youi was the cheapest I found for insuring the building when I bought my current residence. Stayed with them for home/contents as well but didn't hunt around for the best price there as much. Your mileage will likely vary.

  • Congrats and IKEA is a great place to start for all of the basics in equipping the house

    • Be member for their $10 gift card for $100 spent quarterly and use shopback to buy ikea gift card with 4% cashbacks. Can use multiple gift cards in one transactions.

    Don’t buy everything at once.
Look for second hand items. Table and dining chairs are good second hand. Mattress not so much. Basically anything that is easy to clean, like hard surfaces is fine pre-owned.
Know that as long as you have somewhere to sit and eat friends shouldn’t care if you don’t have designer matching furniture.
Cheap appliances might not be economical in the long term, but can get you going at a lower price.
