    Questions aren't deals.

I bought this thing for $1600 on launch, upgraded from my s9+. The camera focus for close range objects is hit and miss, it was always miss on launch but they have updated it so it performs slightly better.

The screen is amazing i keep mine on 1080p 120hz. The performance is good but I usually only get 3.5 to 5 hours screen on time in optimised mode.

The American version of this phone is considerably better than the Australian version. If you really want the size then this is a good option otherwise I'd pick an s21+ for $1100 over this since its a better overall package

Whats the diff between au and us versions? I can't get 5g's on the us version i think

      • +5

There is only one difference the Australian/global version uses the Exynos 990 SoC and the American version uses the Qualcomm snapdragon SoC

The snapdragon has better efficiency and also better image processing signal. What that means in the end is the snapdragon performs 10-30% better depending on workload, more screen on time for battery and better quality photos. It's almost like the Exynos in the s20 is like the snapdragon in the s10, so we pay the same but get less in Australia

The s20 exynos was poor sure, but it's misleading to say it's as bad for the s21 - it's caught up a lot especially for battery life.

          • @superroach: Yeah the I didn't mention the S21 I have seen that the gap has been closed a bit for the s21 series in comparison to the s20.

In the end I don't recommend the phone and I plan to upgrade to the note 21 ultra this year since I'm not happy with the s20 ultra. If Apple release macOs on the ipad pro I'll be getting the iPhone 13 instead

            • +1

@Julzx: It really flipflops on the s20 Exynos was a step behind.

The easiest way to tell what's better is to see what Korea uses domestically.

I would be worried about the battery on an ex demo phone.

Possible OLED burn in from constant screen ontime?

      • -4

Also demo could mean in the possession of the salesperson to pull out of his pocket to pretend he uses the same phone, which means it has his germs in the mic and speakers

    • S21 Ultra is ~$1450 after shipping at Becextech
      https://www.becextech.com.au/catalog/gals21ult12gb128gbp-blk…

      • +2

From what I understand Becextech is Grey import stuff. they have no presence in AU apart from dropship

      • 256Gb version is $1,479.20 on Samsung EPP portal. Brand new delivered.

        • If you have access

          • @Drakesy: Even if you don't plenty of OzB members have bought from there. Just Pm a member who has access to help with the purchase.

$1429 with $50 dollars newsletter coupon

        • Not in black only in pale colour :( No stock and waiting…

      • It shows $1384 to me.
        I doubt it's AU stock?
Can I price match it with OW?

    • Already in clearance 😳😳😳

  • +29

Don’t buy demo stock because a lot of them suffer from screen burn in due to displaying the same image or homepage for a long period of time with max brightness

  • +3

that RRP is a bit outdated, you can get s21 for $1300 RRP now, s21 ultra for a bit more

I have this phone. Do not buy it! I am in the process of getting it replaced or refunded because the main camera on zoom 1-4x makes the picture blurry. It's absolutely horrendous that this even happens. Avoid. Would not recommend

    • I sold my S20 Ultra to these guys on the posted deal and got the S21 Ultra because of the focus issues on the camera, otherwise was a great phone.

    • I think you might misunderstand some things about the phone, thats digital zoom which is normal for all phones.

      • 1-4x is meant to be optical on the s20 ultra is it not?

        • +1

          It has a 1x and 4x camera.

It will combine the 1x and 4x camera's when zooming, but only when there is sufficient light, as the 4x camera just a regular phone camera which generally aren't good in low light situations.

The fancy 108MP camera sensor advertised is in the 1x camera so thats what you generally want to use.

s21 is SO much better, they fixed any issues on the s20 and then some, def don't drop $1000 on this.

Looks like it’s got water damage too ;)

      Username checks out.

When this phone was released. A lot of Telco/Carrier employees and other company's got offered 50% off codes for people that did a samsung 20min training course.

I reckon we will see these phones drop in price really quickly.

    • +1

True for most Samsung new phones including S21.

    • Doubt it, there's people on FB selling these phones around $900 and it's still there a month later.

  • +2

Phone released one year ago, and at great discount. So RRP $1999 is highly inflated, no one paid that new. So selling an used unit for $999 one year later is hardly a bargain.

Also some may argue that a demo unit that was subject to abuse is much worse than a personal used unit that was well looked after.

The 256gb version is selling for $1,479.20 on my Samsung EPP portal. Brand new delivered.

  • Seems risky to buy an ex-demo one of these. As others have noted, a demo phone may have been on display with its screen at Max brightness for far longer than a regular used device, which is not great for OLED displays.

Between the potential issues of image retention, burn-in, and diminished brightness, sounds like poor value.

If you have Samsung Education account, and a not too old phone to trade in. You can get a Galaxy S21 Ultra 256 G for similar price due to the $300 extra tade in value.

I traded my Note9 and paid only $940 for the 256 G variant of the phone

  • Got mine S21 ULTRA 5G 512 GB /16GB $1199.

    • +1

      How'd you manage this mate?

      • Via samsung employee discount. However there is small additional cost on top too for referal which i did not add. Still cheap.
