Samsung Q80T 65" TV - Is It Still Worth It?

Hi OzBargainers.

Been thinking upgrading from a 55'' to a 65" screen for a while now and just getting to the stage of taking the plunge.
Been keeping my eye on the Q80T for a while, and am aware the new Samsung TV's are just around the corner.

I've managed to haggle myself into a price of $2050 for the Q80T delivered…

My question is - Is this a good price at the end of this TV's life cycle and will it hold up for a few years, or should I be looking to buy one of the next-gen TVs - Knowing they are probably going to be at least $1000 more for the equivalent model?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi the TV does has good review on rtings but that aside I do think an upgrade from 55" to 65 won't do it for you. I recommend goes straight to 75"

Getting a better image quality is like, "yeah ok, this look awesom, much than my old one"
But a big jump in size will be like "omg… wow! life changing wont be able to go back" and you think to your self "breathtaking" everytime. While your brain would get used to the better images quality pretty quick without a comparison.

Just a word of warning that the rtings review on the Q80T is not the Aus version. I don't remember the specifics but the Aus version is cut down.
That said I love my Q80T. I'm able to stream from my pc over wifi including audio pass through to 5.1 speaker setup.

      • Does the Australian version still have e-arc and HDMI 2.1?

        • yes to both

    • The 75 is too big for my place unfortunately(narrow terrace house)

From what I can tell online the new model is a Q80A and the upgrades are not dramatic. The OS is updated, but much of the features remain the same.

Importantly, the Q80T has FALD and HDMI 2.1 which is future proofing.

I would suggest waiting closer to release - there will likely be a drop in price.

I'd have a look on Whirpool, a lot of people talk about the dirty screen effect with the AUD version of this model

Agreed. Poor quality control. You are likely to get a screen with DSE issues. If you watch sport at all do not purchase this TV.

      • i watch sport on this TV most of the time. No issues on my end. 55 inch tho.

      • Haven't noticed any DSE on my 65 inch so far.

  • Personally I wouldn't bother "upgrading" from 55" to 65". If your old TV has gone bung, then sure, but simply upgrading an otherwise perfectly fine TV at this level doesn't seem like a great step forward.

  • Hi all. Just picked a 65inch q80t up yesterday. Way too big for my lounge room. Looking to sell it as H N don't want to touch it as I've set it up already. Love the tv. Brilliant quality. Just need it smaller
