I thought the problem are it went for too much the same old direction, lack of improvement and people just over it.
I should have worded it better, Shenmue 3 did not go opposite direction to the original, the game basically did not change enough, so was just too outdated for this generation. If it was released 10+ Years ago it may have done well.
Man, I remember those forklift races back in the Dreamcast days. :-)
Glad I played the Yakuza games since then. They feel like the next logical step in terms of gameplay.
The hype for this game was huge yet the final product was really disappointing. Shenmue 1 and 2 was pioneering for 3D open world games.

Absolute joke of a train wreck.
Even if it were released immediately after the second game - this would still have been a mess. Boring, unlike the first and second games which were more structured and actually had oomph to them.
How the hell do they just decide to edit the supernatural ending of the second game in the beginning of this game is something I can’t fathom. (The floating sword and beams)

Shenmue 2 was so addictive !!!
This game has dropped to $5 already, sad.
The original was one of the most memorable games I ever played and was well ahead for its time, too bad this one went the opposite direction and instead is well behind for its time.
