  • Man are these speakers actually 8 years and 11 years old now?

    • Depends on the series maybe? I remember selling the companion 2's back in 2013 but not sure on the series.

June 11, 2013 — Today, Bose introduces the Companion® 2 Series III multimedia speaker system, its latest Companion 2 product designed specifically for computer entertainment. It fits neatly on a desktop, and uses just two speakers to deliver lifelike sound for music, video and games.

You think these are old? The speakers that I've got connected to my PC are made in 1998. Still going strong.

They are these ones Cambridge Soundworks PCWorks FourPointSurround

      • But are they still producing them?

Speakers can last, no doubt, no reason why they shouldn't if looked after.

It's more the fact Bose hasn't changed it.

im still using the same model and another 5.1 creative cambridge speakers.

      • And probably made better then the cheap crap we buy today too! Mine are old too but they sound so good still

I bought a pair of these back in 2016. although expensive at the time, relative to cheap Logitechs etc, these are a perfect companion to any desktop PC. (Just 2.0… I don't need 2.1 etc as I am playing and editing good old stereo music to put on my NAS.

If you want old, I have a beautiful pair of JBL L100 speakers purchased new in 1974, re-rolled cones in January, 1990 and still performing as good as the day I bought them. Taking them to the grave… should look and sound great in the coffin ;)

      • I second this comment. I have these and they are great. I never wanted a stupid sub box with a 2.1 setup and these work very well.

      • I also concur, I'm using these in my home set up.

        Main pro's:

        • Simple to use and classically minimalist configuration (no separate sub or volume controller to clutter up the place). Typical Bose idiot proof connections (not that this should be hard)
        • Dual line-in inputs that are mixed in. So you can connect two sources, no switching required
        • Packaging: footprint is horizontally compact (however they are about 18cm tall, so you won't be slipping these under a monitor soundbar-style)
        • Easily reached damped volume knob with off position, headphone jack

Sound quality is great - I find the bass is more than satisfactory for my general listening and light gaming needs. Each speaker is ported at the back, response is rich with good presence.

And they look great. A good deal at this price.

  • How do these compare with edifiers, I've been pretty impressed with my R1850DBs.

    • Edifiers would take too much desk space

  • I had the original(?) Bose MediaMate speakers .. I feel the recessed buttons was a nicer look. I wonder how these companion 2's compare.
