  • Oculus Quest 2 or This?

    • +7

Quest 2 does the same thing without all the hundreds of components, I play PCVR with mine wirelessly and it was only 400 bucks

      • +4

So the real question is 3 Oculus Quest 2 or 1 of these

    • +3

For 90% of people Quest 2 is much better value

    • +5

Hard to beat the Quest 2, regardless of how you feel about facebook.

This is a similar headset, but lacks the Quest 2's standalone function, AND costs 2.5 times the price.

  • +2

Good deal if you need wireless PCVR and plan on buying the vive wireless adapter.

Otherwise you might want to consider importing a valve index (it would probably cost around $2000 after paying shopmate fees and GST).

  • Really feels like VR has been treading water the last few years.

These are pretty mediocre specs / display and the controllers are awful but there's just nothing on the market :/

Quest 2 is amazing. Top end headset, similar level to this, for under $500. You just have to put up with facebook.

The main difference between this kit and the quest are the external tracking boxes, these are important for many games if you want a smooth experience and are super into VR.

The Vive Cosmos headset on its own can be purchased for around $900 I've seen but like the Quest 2 it relies on its built in cameras and sensors for tracking which isn't always perfect depending on the movements/games you play.

For most people the Oculus Headsets will do just fine and some even don't require a PC, its just not what I was after (I like steam VR and despise facebook).

The Vive Cosmos is sadly one of the only headsets in Australia that has external tracking support, I would have grabbed the Valve Index but importing one seems far too expensive and risky for the moment.

Yea…I can understand the Facebook thing but the tracking on the Quests is phenomenal. I've used both and can't tell the difference these days.

          • +3

@Batapotamus: I got the Quest 2 and the hand tracking is incredibly accurate. I reckon the external tracking may be obsolete in the future when inside out tracking is so good and no need for a dedicated room for VR when I can take it anywhere with wifi to play PC VR.

        • The only times I've had issues with Quest 2 tracking is when I need to reach behind my back for something (like the backpack in H3VR).

I'm also iffy about having to link it to Facebook though so I still get 90% of my VR games through Steam (already had a library of Steam VR games though since I previously owned a Vive).

      • Quest just doesn't seem like enough of an upgrade over my existing WMR kit, guess I can wait for something like the Index 2 (better come to Australia damnit..)

        • +1

The fact it can be played in its own without any cables or PC is pretty amazing… cables suck

          • @[Deactivated]: I mainly use it for sims sitting down so not a big deal

            • -1

@Merlict: Even for sims, the Quest 2 is a huge upgrade from any WMR headset other than the two HP Reverb models (and if you have one of those and only play sims, there's really no reason to upgrade to anything, not even to an Index).

          • @[Deactivated]: I'd rather deal with cables than re-projection, but I'd consider having a Quest on hand just for demoing it to family and friends.
