"With the fast 50Hz refresh rate"

    LOL

    • If 50Hz is fast, whats slow?

      • Not sure if this is sarcasm so i'll reply.
50Hz is the slowest refresh rate for LCD's AFAIK.
Most LCD's are 100 or 200Hz these days, especially those advertising having a fast refresh rate

Plus umm yeah, like 100Hz and above has electrolytes…umm yeah it's what plants crave! :p

      • Ask them to play Transformers or something in store on a 50Hz TV and you'll want to slap the TV.

        • +7

Dude, if you asked anyone in a store to play Transformers then it should be you getting slapped! :)

LOL @ 'With the fast 50Hz refresh rate'

i dont get it, back in high school, some science teacher said our vision refresh at about 20 times a sec, so how are those 200hz tv's any better??

  • 50hz … thats MASSIVE !!

    • Indeed, it is a refresh rate so fast it has gained mass.

Also available at The Good Guys for the same price. I can't stomach the prospect of giving Gerry Harvey money, so I searched for an alternative! http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/edwardstown/LG_Electronics_106…

    • Not really a deal then is it.

      Pay less… pay cash. ;-)

Not bad, but I'd take the 42lw5700 for 100 bucks more. 100Hz + passive 3D added.

[Was 696 at GG boxing day sale, is 798 at HN now, probably pretty easy to get down to 700, or 750 at least]

    • and get the magic motion remote.. worth around $70

  • pay $100 more and get the 42lw5700 like above.. much better tv both in looks and features.

  • have this tv since last year, paid $800 at dick smith..

great tv.. great value as well..
    love the usb playback function.

    • What formats does it play? Mkv?

      • it play all formats..

        • Avc? :P (I'm doubtful, even my pc needs a codec for that one!) /anime

With all those 'in the know' having a good old chuckle about T.V's with a lowly 50 Hz refresh rate i thought i should investigate, and found this..http://asia.cnet.com/tv-specs-to-ignore-62205280.htm
    Well worth a read imho.

Most of the chumps still just won't get it dude, I've been trying to get them to educate themselves a bit for ages, no dice! They have NFI what the difference is between refresh rate & motion compensation, I think google must be blocked by NetNanny on all of their computers.

I've actually started to just laugh at their comments, they have gone from the sublimely ignorant to the ridiculously idiotic.

Alcohol is the answer Stew :-)

        • Excellent prescription Dr xywolap…I just knocked off a bottle of red 'medicine', feeling much better already! :D

  • Does this mean even old Gamecube and Dreamcast games won't work if I select 60Hz video?!

    • I'm sure it supports 60Hz. For some reason that is rarely mentioned in the specifications.

  • +2

If you time your blinking just right, you can double it to 100Hz…

  • +1

What are the channels broadcasting in? If they not broadcasting in 200Hz, then surely you don't need a 200Hz tv to watch it properly. If they broadcast in 50Hz, then 200Hz tv will not be any better than a 50Hz. Or am I just wrong? Would the tv not just show the same picture 4times?

    • Who watches tv these days?

      • +3

Ha ha.. ABC and SBS are worth watching.. mostly for their British content, and documentary stuff.

OK, so what do dvd players and blu ray players pump out? What about all the media players out there? If they not all putting out 100Hz 200Hz or something, is the extra Hz on the tv not needed. Just looking for the smart people on here who could let me know if it's worth paying the extra premium for?

        • Blu-ray players/STB boxes all output 50/60Hz. "100Hz" TVs wouldn't even accept a 100Hz input. They just double a 50Hz input.

  • +1

Yes maximum output from Blurays and STB's is only 24 frames (or you could say 24Hz) a second, so even with a 50hz TV, the TV interpolates roughly 1 extra frame out of 2. The HZ figure really refers to the amount of grunt the digital processor has rather than anything else.

Funny enough plasma's are still generally believed have the best and most natural fast motion picture, and they only do 50hz.

Like most figures listed for TV's and other electronics it is all marketing hype to keep us buying.
