[NSW] Gro Clock $30 (Was $60) in-Store @ BIG W (Merrylands)

400

Not sure if nationwide. Saw several units on the shelf today.

Weirdly enough there is the same product next to it in different packaging and that scans at $45 (25% off) so double check.

Edit:
Here are the two products, the only difference I can tell is that one mentions tommee tippee but seems otherwise the same (different product codes). Could be just a packaging update or something to reflect new branding.

Really effective! Great price for this

    • I second this comment

    • How does it work? Can I set times and styles?

EG, blue overnight -> Yellow at 6am = quiet playtime in room -> Green at 7am for come out of room.

We only use night and day, I’m not sure if other modes are there.

We set what time the “sun” (picture with yellow backlight) will display. We then ham up as much as possible to our kid that they can get up when the “suns up”. There’s a book with it to help reinforce it. Presumably your kid is too young to tell the time so you could initially have the sun appear quite early so the goal is achievable, but when they understand they’re supposed to stay in bed until the sun appears then you can slowly push the time back.

Our daughters waking time was sleeping forward from 6:30 to 6 or earlier. We had luck halting that with the clock and have snuck the time back to around 6:45 now which were pretty reliably getting to.

We don’t use the clock for mid day naps, but they fortunately aren’t an issue for us.

  • Just bought one from Amazon on a prayer. If your toddler ain’t talking will this work??

    • Your kid probably needs to be around 2 for this to work in my opinion.
You need to be able to explain and for them to understand the concepts of only being able to "wake up" when the sun come up.

You may be able to teach a younger kid, I can't remember when I first got it for my boy.

      • Mines coming up 2.5. Can’t talk yet though

        • Have you investigated a speech delay with your toddler?

          • @Zenyatta: Yep. Hearing all good. Speech path said he’s just a bit behind that’s it.

    • Depends on the kid but if they understand you and follow your instructions (do this, don't do that) you'll be fine. My kid now wakes up 30-45 mins before the "sun" and then waits for it before coming out at 7:30am. Great unit

Worth it for the 10 mins extra sleep I get every day.

    • Worth it for the extra 1.5 hours of not having a tired toddler around

$30? About time. (Seems to get very mixed reviews)

    • Its rubbish I hate non WI FI clocks that can't stay accurate .

      • It keeps time for me

This may be a silly question, but this displays blue light at night right? Doesn’t that inhibit sleep? We got the Sam the sheep this weekend as it has a red light which is meant to promote melatonin, yet to try it out but will report back

    • Yeah that is my concern with it. Still not sure if I want to use it based on reviews. Please let me know what you think of Sam the Sheep.

      • We have sam the sheep for my daughter. The red light is good but stays on for like 15 minutes when going to sleep and is yellow 30 minutes before waking up, which has the tendency to wake her.. It would be good if the screen wasnt so bright. It did help to encourage her to stay in her bedroom till it was green instead of coming to wake us straight after she woke at some crazy hour.

        • Good to know I’m setting it up today so I’ll set the wake time half an hour later in case the yellow wakes her. She’s used to a super dark room so I’m not sure how it will go

I agree, the blue light is the strangest choice. Blue is know to keep you awake.
You can turn off the blue light, so it only shows the yellow light when the sun comes up.

      • You can? interesting

    • The blue light is too light, it lights the whole room on the lowest setting, it's really sad they didn't think this through. I turn off the stars (no light). My daughter just waits for the sun.

  • Kmart has one for $26 and actually tells the time

  • I had one of these and found it impossible to setup

    • Yep, my mum bought us one and I found the same thing. I'm no luddite but it was not intuitive at all. I ended up watching a YouTube clip to set it up. I think the most confusing thing was you don't set bed times, just wake times and you have to push a button to tell it it's bedtime… I was expecting it to be more "set and forget".

Either way, we didn't last one night with it, it's too bright, even on the dullest setting.

I have the Kmart version of this. I have been known to secretly change the settings to make bedtime 5:30pm on bad days :-)

Haha I do the same but make wake up time later when they need some extra sleep or have a long day ahead !!

    • Do you set bed and wake times on the Kmart one or just wake times and then have to press a button for bed time like you do on the GroClock?

      • I have mine set to automatically go blue for night time at 6pm then it goes yellow for wake up at 6:30am (it's really simple- just like setting an alarm on a digital clock). It doesn't have the green light option like the Gro clock as someone mentioned above. You can also dim the blue light. My son has always been a good sleeper so the blue light has never caused issues. I've had it for around 2 or 3 years now and it's still working well.
