Value Range Mini Pizzas $3, Extra Large $7 (Was $8) @ Domino's Pizza

160

Looks like Domino's has followed Pizza Hut, lowering pricing and introducing mini pizzas to match their Unreal pizza range.

No voucher required. Same varieties of pizza available as before with the following sizes:

  • Mini: $3 (new, deep pan only, 6.5 inches)
  • 'Large': $5 (10 inches)
  • 'Extra Large': $7 (was $8, 12.5 inches)

Mini pizzas are apparently only available in selected stores.
A quick check of stores online in WA, NSW, SA, VIC and QLD showed the new range, so presuming this is nationwide.

    This is how it starts.

The small will become the new large at some point. Happens every single time a new smaller size is introduced

Like in Back to the Future with the hydrated Pizza? That was supposed to be 2015, but we are 6 years past 2015, hopefully it will not be too much longer, where we will be able to say hydrate level 4 please, we cant be too far away. Maybe 2025.

Apart from we're talking sizes after hydration…

    • Sounds like we’ll gradually get to American sizes, where a small is 10”.

      See https://www.insider.com/us-uk-dominos-calories-portion-sizes…

  • Isnt that interesting, Dominos is copying Pizza Hut.

Also the magical $7 price point, that is supposed to be a psychology ending number where more people buy when the price ends in $7. Is this really true? If so, we may see this price for a long time.

  • How is this a bargain? It literally says "every day value range".

    • +3

Correct, a new product line at an 'unlimited' qty doesn't count as a bargain

      • if it's good value still worth posting (has anyone done the math for this tiny pizza? idk lol)

edit - Below they have lol,

    • A bargain doesn't need to be something that is discounted or on specials for a limited time only.

Based on the area of the pizzas…
The $5 Large pizza wins 🥇 first place on value for money, followed by the 🥈$7 Extra-Large, then the $3 Small comes third 🥉

    • +4

      Large 10 inch $5
      Extra large 12.5 inch $7

      Ratio of price = 7/5
      = 1.4

      Ratio of area = (12.5/2)^2 / (10/2)^2
      = 39.065 / 25
      = 1.5625

Doesn't that make the Extra Large better value?

I have been horrifically wrong today in another post that almost made me delete my account with shame,
but I did the maths again after looking at what appears to be a valid objection from the OzBargain delegate,
I hereby revise the award on new evidence that has come to light.

10" Large has an area of 78.54 square inches and at $5.00 equals $0.0636 a square inch
12.5" Extra Large has an area of 122.72 square inches and at $7 equals $0.0570 a square inch

Results for best value for money pizza are…
        🥇 $7 Extra-Large
        🥈 $5 Large
        🥉 $3 Small

N.B. they don't do Deep-pan on Xtra large

So I'd still get 'Large' with deep-pan option.

The extra large size used to be their regular large value pizza for $5. I must admit I don’t like the trend to mislead consumers like this. I hope my local pizza store doesn’t resort to this trend of calling their small pizza a large which = dominos large because of this. I buy a large pizza I expect a large pizza, not a race to see how small we can get away with calling a smaller size pizza still a large. Though I do appreciate various size options, just don’t need to resort to misleading the consumers in order to do so. Really it should be large, medium, and small. No bs extra large categories.

Tried the mini and it was perfect size/price.

    • Tried the mini and it was perfect size/price for my lego pizzeria

If you compare the calories, the old $5 pizzas became the $7 extra large. Calling this a deal when it was literally a price increase is pretty laughable but probably not worth a neg since some people might enjoy the tiny sized ones for $3.
