I'm talking to my website host about it now, strange thing I have no problems at all but a few people have said the same thing

  • +1

Was tossing up about this deal last time, went ahead this time.

    I hope it's worth it!

    • +1

processing it now will send in the morning, cheers

  • +1

Thanks..just ordered after reading so many positive comments..I bought a basic entry level DSLR Canon 1000D few months ago but have only used Auto mode so far. Hoping to make better use of it now!

    • +1

Excellent, you'll shoot more when you know how to move off the auto settings, its much more fun…

  • +1

Thanks, just bought it for my dad :)

    • +1

Good stuff, they seems to be bought for so many Wives and Girlfriends I'm renaming the course the Wags guide to taking great shots..dads bring some reality back into it, maybe I'll combine the both of them and get the Dags Guide to taking great shots, I've got a feeling it won't be a winner….

  • +1

Dam you ozbargain peer pressure… ok ill buy one :) My D3000 is getting really dusty so this will be my last ditch effort to get back into it or sell my camera.

    • +1

I'll be glad if it works, don't give up on your camera..

  • +1

Just ordered for the GF however forgot to ask does this show how to take proper night photos?

    • +1

It shows you how to control the camera to do what you want to do with it through aperture and shutter speed settings and ISO controls and combinations, once you know that you can shoot in almost any situation, night, day ect, cheers

  • +2

Congratulations at reaching one of the highest voted deals this past month.

    • +1

Yes I'm absolutely stoked, thanks a lot..

  • +1

Got a Sony Alpha A580 for Christmas but I've never done much photography nor used a DSLR much so I ordered one :)

    • +1

Great, John Wallace from Photo Riesel in Sydney is your man if you need any gear for that camera, he set up Sony Cameras in Australia and then bought that company and its really pushing the Sony Brand, he gets all the gear before it hits any other shops here, he's on 02)9299 6745 and he's a nice guy, cheers..

  • +1

saw the positive votes and purchased, look forward to seeing my photography improve

    • +1

      on its way mate..cheers

  • +1

    Hi Steven,
I will be buying your course CD tomorrow.
Just a suggestion though….maybe you could try n have a 'number of items' counter next to the 'buy now' button. I want to buy 'two' cds but then I will have to make two separate transactions…and in turn which 'might' cost you twice the 'shipping' charge if you are not reading/checking the addresses. Hope this makes sense?
    Just my 1/2click ;)

    • +1

Yes for sure, perfect sense, I'll try and do that, cheers..

  • +1

Website down ? I cant get to it…

  • +1

    Ordered one yesterday

    • +2

      great, on its way..

  • +1

great got one yesterday as well

    • +1

      cheers mate

  • +1

Just ordered one. I hope this DVD improves my SLR knowledge and makes all my photos shine out.

Would I get the DVD tomorrow ?

    • +1

I'm hoping to get every out today, if not it will be send first thing in the morning, cheers

      • +1

Hi, its been 3 days now and I haven't received the DVD yet??? Whats the status ?

        • +1

Can you send me through an email to [email protected] so i can check your order, it would definitely have been sent as I process all orders daily..

        • +1

I've sent you an email. Please check this ASAP.

  • +1

Well, I've bowed to peer group pressure and ordered one.

The main motivator was the absolutely phenomenal responses by the OP to all the comments and questions. poohah - if you put half as much effort in creating your training course as you have into responding to everyone - it will be brilliant.

For the record, I have a Canon 20D with 50, 17-85 and 100-300 lenses. The 17-85 (bought with the body) is an absolutely brilliant lens, ideal as a walkabout for holidays etc. Light, compact with good range and performance.

Also for the record, the DVD is for my husband, so maybe you need to call it the "WAG and HAB" DVD or WHASO or WABAHAG or ….

    • +1

Thanks for the compliments,I'm working on a new name right now, apparently, Dags guide to Photography isn't the winner I thought it would be.. the 20D is a good camera but there is a deal for a 550d at the moment which will give you good video as well and with your lenses there's not much else to spend, I had the 100-300 which was fine but you will find the 400 fixed prime is just like the Nifty Fifty, incredibly cheap( for what you get)cheers..

  • +1

got the DVD today, thanks for the quick delivery :); anyway just a quick question, since I'm new to all this "SLR" photoshoot and just recently got myself 1100D with 18-55 lens; I like to shoot group photo with nice scenery at the back, what lens you would recommend and not too pricey; I heard this 50mm f1.4 lens or 30mm f1.4 lens, will that do the job ? Thanks in advanced :)

    • +2

Hi Logouts, the 30mm will be better for group shots as you will be able to fit them all in, depends on your budget, I recommend all of these three lenses, the 50mm 1.8(around $100) better the Sigma 50mm(1.4) and the Sigma 30mm 1.4, your budget will decide which way you go but a 50mm 1.8 and a 30mm 1.4 is a good combo..
The 50mm on a small frame camera give you a nice beauty lens, it comes out around 80mm as your camera magnifies the lens due to a smaller frame, 50mm x 1.6 = 80mm..

Beauty lenses are usually 80-130mm, they stretch the people in the shot as opposed to wide angle lenses that accentuate noses and ears, stretched people look taller and the features look nicer, I hope this answers your question..

      • +1

Thanks poohah, really appreciate of your professionalism; will definately learns lots from your DVD :)

  • +1

After 2 days of reading all these positive posts i've also surcumed to the pressure and purchased one.
Buying my sis a 600D or 60D (depending what deal i can get) after work tonight and this will come in handy
BTW i looked at the 550D deal and suggested it to her but she loves the flip flop screen so looks like that's out
    Thanks Steven

    • +2

the 550d deal will give her money to buy good lenses but a flip flop screen wins every time, whichever Brand succumbs to making a pink SLR will definitely get 50% of the market share..

    • +1

I doubt the flip screen will be used that much. Its really a gimmick on a prosumer camera. The only place I can of using it would be while shooting videos. For the extra money, get lenses instead

      • +2

I was scared to write that in case I offended anyone, glad you did, better lenses win every time..

      • +1

The most useful thing about the flip screen is the ability to keep the screen in a closed position (i.e. screen facing inward) so that it doesn't get scuffed/scratched when not in use. Of course, you can just get a screen protector.

Other than that, yeah gotta say it's pretty gimmicky

        • +1

I just checked, screen protector is 99c and free delivery..woohoo..

      • +1

I tried to talk her into buying the 550D pack and the Canon 50mm 1.4 or the 600D body only and the Canon 50mm 1.4 and upgrade to a nice zoom later on (24-105 f/4.0L or a 17-55 f/2.8L) but being the younger sister she refused to listen to me and wanted the 600D twin lens kit cause it looks like she's getting more of a camera right now.

In saying that though it's not that big of a deal because we got the 600D twin pack at a bargain price (under a grand) and the body only for a local 600D was around $850 so for another $150 it lets her play with some cheap and nasty lenses for 6 months before she upgrades.

        • +1

For sure, you can always sell those lenses on Ebay later, bear in mind the design on the Canon 50mm 1.4 is over 12 years old(they haven't changed it)and the Sigma 50mm 1.4 is only a few years old and completely set up for small frame cameras. You can always get her a 50mm 1.8 so she knows the difference of a fast lens compared to to the slow kit lenses.

  • +1

Thanks. Ordered yesterday afternoon, received today.

    • +2

      Hallelujah Australia Post………

  • +1

Hey Poohah any statistics on how many you have sold from posting the deal to now. Must be in the thousands?

    • +1

      3290 clicks x $15 = $49,350 a day.

      $49,350 x 365 Days = $18,012,750 per annum.

      MILLIONAIRE!

      Side Note: flawed logic here

      • +1

Maybe on catch of the day, put it this way, I haven't been surfing today

  • +1

Poohah - my wife has a Lumix GF3. Would the course be relevant to her?

    • +1

For sure, these hybrids have all the same functions and principles as an SLR, cheers..

      • +1

        Thanks, bought!

        • +1

I'm going to try and send it now if i can make the post..

  • +1

hey bought one, any advice on which camera +lens to buy for someone starting out with a DSLR? I take crap photos with a point and shoot, and want to improve, happy to spend the money on something decent. thanks

    • +1

As boring as this sounds on this thread there has been some great deals thrown around, I really think this is a good deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/61029 coupled with a cheap 50mm 1.8 and my DVD it would be very difficult to take crap photos…to be honest the deals on new cameras are amazing at the moment..

  • +1

    First time post, bought one!

  • +2

    Hi poohah,

I have found this comment on the Amazon UK link you have left (on the front page):

"First of all, some warnings. This DVD is burned not pressed. That means that it's more prone to scratches and it will stop working in a couple of years. So you have to take extra care. I was expecting a pressed disc for the price. Then there's the duration. It says on the cover "Learn in hours what other courses teach in weeks". Well, it states that it's 65min long on the details but in fact it's 53.44, so it's not even an hour, much less "hours"."

    Are these comments true?

    • +2

Well you are only as good as you dodgiest review I guess and its shame you didn't pick any of the other 19 five star ones but here goes.
First of all he gave me 3 stars out of 5 so it wasn't so bad.
I generally use Replicated DVD's but sometimes if I get loads of orders I use Duplicated DVD's, I have sold thousands of both types in many different countries and have never had one DVD back. If there was any problem I would replace the DVD or refund the purchaser.
This course has been constantly evolving, it started as a 2 DVD set that went for an hour and a half, I constantly update the course based on feedback from you guys, the users. I could have left it at an hour and a half which is the easy option. Instead I constantly reshoot the scenes to get them to be the best they could without wasting time about boring jargon that nobody ever uses.
I based it on my own experience, when i first learnt Photoshop I bought a DVD that had over 36 hours of lessons, I was bored #$%^less after the first hour.
I then bought a really good DVD that lasted a little over an hour and was perfect..

so these comments are true and these are the reasons behind it.

And now as I'm on my Soap Box, I'm going to pick a nice review or 2, just to add to the spam on the internet.

      "I'm a better photographer"
"I bought the course based on the reviews here on Amazon, I'm a weekend warrior photographer who specializes in Sport photography and wildlife and I needed some help on shutter speeds and getting sharper images, I'm confident now to take my camera off the running man and dial in my own settings, the course was easy to follow and best of all it was the cheapest thing I've bought in my photography kit."

      "Finally"
"Finally, someone has explained it! I've always tried to get the best shots as have loved taking photos but there was always something missing. Now i can do it!! Thank you. Highly recommend this SLR Dig. Photo Course.Very good."

      • +1

        Hi poohah,

I have seen all the glowing reviews from all your links and this website as well! I don't know - I am a bit of a paranoid buyer online. I don't like taking risks because it usually costs me if I am not happy with what I get. Plus I like to have seen in a store what I want to buy beforehand normally.

But thanks for taking the time to answer my question. and really to answer every question/comment on this bargain post - that is really awesome for a rep!

I think I will buy one. I have been looking to improve my photography skills for ages. I bought a G11 2 years ago and I haven't been as bad to use auto all the time, but I haven't taken advantage of all the settings because I haven't quite figured it all out yet! I have taken some nice night shots though. Hopefully you can teach me some more.

        • +1

The G11 is a great camera, I had a G10 but the noise above 400 ISO was terrible so the camera was a bit limited in that respect, more and more people are going for the hybrids now as they realise the creative side of them instead of the point and shoots..To minimise any risks I offer a full money back guarantee.. cheers and enjoy, I'll shoot it out today..

        • +1

When I bought the G11, some staff at the shop were showing me sample pictures in low light between the G10 and G11 (that Canon were distributing). The G10 did so horribly in comparison!

My G11 has this annoying design problem though - the lens is really close to the lens shutter thing, and you can easily chip the lens if there is a big enough jolt :( I usually take quite good care of my camera but this has happened twice already ><

I only bought the G11 originally because I wanted an in between camera before getting an SLR. I still want to get one but the news of the new Powershot having better sensors that some SLRs is very tempting!

        • +1

For sure, I can't even take good shots on my G10 because of scratches on the lens, the powershoots are very tempting, a friend of mine bought one with a 20x zoom, whacked it into one of those dodgy plastic bags you can take in the water and the results are incredible, the price of a casing to take my an SLR in the water is out of control and as the price of a power zoom is cheap its a great option..

        • +1

Heh I got one of those dodgy plastic cases for my old compact to shoot underwater, but as I've discovered you need different techniques for that because the deeper you go the more colour you lose! Maybe I should get one for my G11 too - I didn't think that it'd make a ginormous difference but who knows.

  • +1

Damn, it didn't arrive in today's mail. Ohh well .

    • +1

keep me posted(no pun intended) if there are any delivery problems I'll sort them out..

  • +1

Just purchased tonight….couldn't pay on my Touchpad the other day, as WebOS is flakey sometimes!
Got the 1100D with 18-55 Non IS lens @Christmas (Same as #logouts).

This DVD will be perfect for my daughter to build up some knowledge. Looking at a 55-250 IS lens from E-Global to have a real good "Beginners" package

    • +1

Don't forget the 50mm 1.8 for low light conditions, its usually under $100, that 55-250 is great for the price..

      • +1

I just brought a pentax k-r, what would be the equavlent of a 50mm 1.8 but for pentax? e.g value for money lens

        • +1

Hi Andy, there's no real cheap deal that I know of but you have the Pentax 50mm 1.4, I recommend and use the Sigma 50mm 1.4 in a pentax mount, its a little more but a world of difference, there is also a Zeis 50mm 1.4 with a pentax mount that I have heard some rave reviews about this lens.. the Sigma won't break the bank and its a great lens..

    • +1

Question is why are you using WebOS on your touchpad?

  • +1

I bought one of these on his previous deal and it's really worth it. Really enjoyed the way it was presented. Oh and it was delivered very quick too :)

  • +1

Do I get a certificate after watching the video?

    • +1

No sorry this is not a certificate course but you do get to be able to set your camera up and use it properly..

    • +1

U will get a pat on your back when people see the photos you take

  • +1

ordered one. time to upgrade my skills! thanks!

  • +1

    Got mine…aww yee

  • +1

    Ordered Monday. Received it today!

Im in office so I cannot view play it.

But I checked a sample chapter - Metering modes - explained the different metering modes and when to use them with examples within minutes! Now I know how to make sure faces are clear on photos taken against bright light! Simple as that! Thanks Steve

    @Steve:
Been looking at a nifty fifty prime lens:

    I have a Nikon D70 and i saw 50mm 1.4, 1.8, G and D versions of these - Is it worthwhile getting a lens with a larger aperture paying the price? and getting G over a D?

    • +1

In my mind and this is with Canon and Nikon
The difference between the 1.8 and the 1.4 is immense and worth the money…definitely, take a look at the 2 lenses side by side and check the actual hole size that lets the light in..

The difference between the 1.4 and the 1.2 (Canon) is not worth the huge price difference..

Remember, bodies come and go but lenses are forever, I'll be doing the Debeers Commercials next..

      • +1

        haha Thanks.

  • +1

OK, with all the OzBargain pressure and positive votes I just ordered one. Using a Canon G10, and will share the DVD around the family (including a father in law with a 5D that is only ever used on auto mode - shame shame!).

    • +1

I bet he hasn't even shot any video either….I shot some of the video on a G10, great camera except noise after 400 ISO is a shocker..

  • +1

Just bought it. Look forward to checking it out. Cheers.

    • +1

      on its way to you

  • +1

i'm in perth, just wondering if there's any chance i'll be able to get this by Friday? We leave for europe monday 6AM and would love to be able to get in some last minute tips!

    • +1

It's your call, if you get it in now I will post it today but then its up to Aus Post, your call, at $15 its not much of a gamble i guess..

  • +1

Bought one! Getting tired of shooting photos where half are blurred and not sure if it's a result of noise, camera shake or settings.

    • +1

Camera shake for sure, its 90% of all problems with photos and unfortunately something that is very difficult to fix in post production..they can be fixed in your settings though..I dedicate a whole section on how to avoid it..

      • +1

        Look forward to it. Thanks

  • +1

Thanks for the tips, just brought a copy

    • +1

      on its way Andy

  • +1

Thanks, I got the DVD yesterday plus another one in mail today (probably by mistake). Might want to double check your order list and tick off as you go.. otherwise, you should edit the title to include buy 1 get 1 free :)

    • +1

Belated Christmas present for a photographer in the family mate, enjoy

  • +1

Received mine today but not by "Auspost express letter delivery" as stated. No biggie, will watch it later on! Thanks

    • +1

According to my post office the way it is sent is the quickest way a letter can be sent and generally makes it next day to the destination in most capital cities, coupled with the fact that I process all orders on the same day its express in my book…

Monday I got slammed with orders and a few went out on Tuesday morning but hopefully everyone is receiving their DVD's within 2 days of ordering..cheers..

  • +1

Still no luck with mine. I ordered on Monday.
I live on the gold coast. Normally any express is overnight to me.

    • +1

can you send me an email to [email protected] and I'll check it out..cheers

      • +1

        Done.

        • +1

Cheers, got it in today's mail.
          Thanks.

      • +1

Excellent, any body else with postal problems feel free to contact me, thanks

  • +1

    Just ordered one.

Heading overseas in 2 weeks and can't wait to learn how to utilise my Sony NEX5 better and hopefully take some awesome shots!
