USB Rechargeable Keychain Torch

I'm very sad, I just came back from a camping trip and realised I had somehow lost somewhere in the bush my trusty Olight i1r2 rechargeable keychain light I bought on Ozbargain last August for $8 shipped.

Olight does not stock this product anymore and anyway, the last time they did, it was over $25. Ugh.

Any deals on quality rechargeable keychain torches in the $10 range?

I would preferably want one with similar features to the i1r2. I have also owned two Nitecore Tube torches that I bought on Ozbargain back in the day, from two separate sales, that were utter crap. Both failed to recharge after the first use.

I was really happy with the build quality and form factor of Olight.

Did you look in the wastepaper basket or under the seatbelt thingy?

    • I'm afraid it might have popped out onto the ground at my tent site on the plains near Lake Sirona in the Western Arthur range of Southwest Tasmania when I was packing up.
      It's gone. :(

      • Have you considered the new-ish Nitecore Tiki?
I've heard some good things about them, was thinking of picking one up myself.

There's no "awesome fire sale" and I guess that's the way things will be until supply shortages improve. However, this price of AUD $26 doesn't seem so bad. It's from bang good . com, I've had a good experience with them, excluding the slow shipping times but that's a given.

        • Looks decent. Thanks for calling my attention to it. Does it ever go on sale? I'm not necessarily in a hurry to buy… I'm willing to wait a bit if it goes on sale occasionally.

          • @coolrunnings: I think they released the Tiki at the end of 2019.
Normally by now they would've had plenty of fire-sales, it just goes with how Nitecore does business. Due to the pandemic, and now supply shortages there hasn't been any fire-sales.

If memory serves me correct, Nitecore prices the RRP at ~$50, knowing they will likely settle it for actual sales price around ~$30, with the fire-sales going for ~$20. The best price that was listed on OzBargain was from last year for $29. So this one priced at $26 seems decent. I would take the punt if I was you. I'm considering it too, but I've got my (large) Tip SE at the moment, and I've been eyeing the Nitecore Tini 2… that looks perfect sized for my keychain whilst having a very high lumination.

            • @Kangal: It's a cool product. If I hadn't been burnt by Nitecore on quality issues twice I'd probably pull the trigger. I'll probably get it eventually if the Olight deal doesn't repeat itself.

      • R.I.P. coolrunnings’ i1r2.

Keep an eye on olight in case they have another “giveaway” in the future. In addition to the August one they also had another in November, and they are currently giving them away for “free” with a $129 spend.

        • Thanks, I've signed up to all their groups and newsletters, maybe I'll have the jump on a deal. Was the November promotion on this particular torch? I really like its small and lightweight form.

@coolrunnings: It was exactly the same deal as the one you got, free i1r2 just pay $7.95 shipping for the Black Friday sale.

            • @mapax: Thanks, I think I'll sit tight and see if they put up another deal like this again.

You should find plenty of places still have the i1R2 in stock but they're near $30 now. Good little light. The Fenix E02R is probably the next closest that I know of but run nearer $40

Yeah, I know they are available on eBay or whatever, but no self-respecting Ozbargainer will bring themselves to pay $30 for a torch they once got for $8. It goes against everything we believe in.

If it's quality, and worth the $30, then your average OzBargainer would find value in it, much more than buying a sub-par $10 torch that won't compete with the $30 one. Consider it 2 torches for $38, ie $19 each…

          Buy once, cry once.

        • You're right, you're right, I know you're right. That's the way to look at it.
