HTC Glass Screen Replacement - Difficult?

Hi,

I've managed to smash the screen of my HTC U12+. The LCD is fine and the touch works fine as well.

I see I can get a glass replacement with out LCD/touch, how hard is it to remove the glass and adhesive? I also don't know if the replacement comes with a adhesive? The aliexpress listing doesn't state whether it does or not.

Thanks,

    • Yeah he replaces the entire screen there. I was hoping to keep the original LCD because it's fine and just replace the glass.

  • You are no Macgyver

    • Not when it comes to phones I ain't.

  • You're better off replacing the glass with digitiser.

    • Yeah I suppose it starts to get pricey at that point and if I get someone to do it all for.me then it's probably not worth it.

What's the going rate for a glass replacement if I provide the digitiser and glass?

It's unfortunate because I only have had it for a year and it's been great. Still works well. Maybe I'll just learn to live with this really annoying broken screen .

      • What's the going rate for a glass replacement if I provide the digitiser and glass?

        Probably $50 to $100…

I've replaced the one for my old mi a1. I managed to do it but not well. I cracked the screen again trying to make it all fit better.

        • How did you do it yourself? I'm in a similar situation with my Redmi Phone. Most shops are quoting $199 which is more than the cost of the phone itself! Its a 3 years old phone now, so ofcourse do not want to spend so much. I watched some online videos about how to do it. Replacing Glass + Digitser seems to be straightforward - but what did you use for the Heat Gun? How to separate the glass off from the phone body? That seems to be the most difficult part and I'm skeptical I can do it myself.

          • @djoz: Sell it broken on eBay, get a new phone

          • @djoz: Which model?

I didn't have a heat gun. I was able to just use the prying tools (you're not keeping the screen so no need to be super careful). I did end up having to replace the battery since the adhesive was very strong and I bent the battery. Probably cost me around $40 all up with some phone glue too.

          • @djoz: What phone model is that? The shops quoting $199 are dreaming… More like $150 free cash. Shops giving ridiculous figures are just contributing to ewaste.

            • @[Deactivated]: It's a Redmi Note 4 Pro.
Is there any place I can get it done for $50?

              • @djoz: easy, do it yourself.

                • @[Deactivated]: Where do I get the Screen + digitiser? Its a Redmi Note 5 Pro (sorry for the typo above).
This is the only place I have found it so far:

                  • @djoz: You're confusing me!

Redmi Note 5 Plus or Redmi Note 5 PRO?

                  • @djoz: Show a picture of the back. You can tell b the camera's.
