Isn't this part of android for free?
I just did a screen mirror to Samsung and no additional app was needed.

And no, I'm not talking about casting to a Chromecast

    • +2

This is what I wondering. I don't have Samsung but my Oppo has miracast.

    • +6

Not all the additional apps like that are on all android phones, some people call it bloatware, some people find it very useful and some complain when a phone doesn't get all of these additional features

    • +6

IIRC Pixel phones have Miracast disabled and can only mirror to Chromecast devices.

  • +5

Android has had miracast built in for 5+ years now? On stock-ish versions of Android go to settings >display > cast ( or add cast to quick settings) . In Samsung go to quicksettings > smart display (or smart screen, something like that)

    • -1

It's not built in to Android.
Phones with vanilla Android do not have this app.

      • +1

I have a cast icon in my quick settings on a Sony tablet and an Oppo phone. It appears to be part of the OS, not a separate app.

        • Be that as it may, it is not part of the OS.

  • -4

Already built into the Android OS - look for "Cast" under the pull-down bar.
This app is probably a scam.

Chromecast uses a different wireless mirroring protocol to Miracast.

Chromecast - Google's proprietary wireless casting technology, allows mirroring to compatible devices over shared network (built-in on Google Chrome & all devices running Android).

Miracast - allows mirroring content to compatible devices using inbuilt wireless technology (does not require both devices to be connected to the same or any network).

      • Miracast devices are also shown in Android cast menu (not just chrome cast)

      • Wait they don't have to be on the same network?

So its RF or Bluetooth broadcasting?

Or is it a third option like Airdrop that uses bluetooth for a handshake to essentially create an ADHOC network?

        • I think it uses WiFi direct connection between the two devices yep.

  • Its built into the tv operating system.

May be useful for older or cheaper lower quality mobile devices, but I'm not testing it.

  • +2

What a train wreck Miracast ended up being.

    • +2

I watched a 1080p movie cast from my phone to a smart TV last night and I was amazed how well it worked!
Looked great, sounded great, didn't burn much battery life (~5% over the 2 hour movie). No buffering/stuttering and also handled soft coded subtitles.
      I was seriously impressed.

      • +4

Oh the tech is great, the adoption and implementations though…

  • +6

    Step:

    1. TV and mobile should be on the same wifi network
    2. MiraCastDisplay should be enabled on the TV
    3. Click "start" and make sure wireless display option is enabled.

So you need to have a smart TV or a dumb TV made smart with a Chromecast for example. You can just use your phone and mirror the screen without any app. What's the use of this app?

  • +6

LOL the dev email address is a freebie address with a string of random looking digits: [email protected].

Even if it was a useful feature, yeah… nah.

  • +1

I bought EKO tv recently which has inbuilt chromecast. However, i am not able to work out how to turn it on and connect my phone :)

    • -3

      Crazy idea. RTFM?

    • You set it up with the same login as your google account I think

I personally have just plugged in a chromecast so I didnt have to worry about it.

  • +4

Full access to your network? Switch on and off your Wi-Fi? It sounds sceptical to me.

  • Thanks OP. Works well on my oneplus7t

  • Woe you generation brought up on mobile phones and tables.

    • +2

      Yes I had tables.

  • +3

Unfortunately you need to leave your phone's screen on all the time…not useful!

    • +1

That sucks. At least the Samsung smartview app. The screen eventually turns off on the tablet or phone after a minute or two.

  • ok.. so this is a competitor to chromecast kinda thing?
can I use it with Vodafone TV?

    • It's free. Download it and find out.

  • +1

Bit sceptical, reviews doesn't seem authentic. It's free anyway, whatever.

  • Is this compatible with a Dell monitor?

    • +1

If you connected a Micracast-compatible dongle to it, such as the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter, sure.

    • +2

If your running windows 10 just open the connect app, then cast to the pc, I use samsung phone and cast works without needing to install additional apps.

      • +1

Is your PC connected via ethernet or on the same wireless network as the phone?

  • +2

A free app that does something your phone does for free… is not a bargain! Fake reviews on store, it's a front end shortcut to your phone's built in miracast. Dodgy a best, rip off for this who paid for this, at worst.
