  • Oh not posted by watchnerd…
Anyways, in the past I got few good looking old model but kind of unique watches / limited edition from catch, with clearance prices.
Used carefully lightly for few months and sold on eBay with profit.

    • not watchnerd, sorry to disappoint!~ I view watches like relationships, I'm in it for the long haul - beauty is in the eye of the beholder, after all ;)

  • Looks like something the Doomslayer would wear

  • The Schwarzenegger Special….56mm.case ……yeowwwww

  • Awesome looking watch, but unfortunately I feel smart watches have killed these off. I haven't worn any of my G shocks in years 🙁 shame really because they are really good watches and I'd have this in a heart beat!

    • +1

I've actually gone the other way. After always loving watches and only using a smart watch the last few years I'm back to the G Shocks mostly unless I need to know my phone is ringing (like now, I'm on call but it's really loud in shopping centres and I seem to never hear or feel my phone ring).

The collecting bug has also hit again, the latest being a skeleton GA2100.

      • They make some wicked looking watches that are truly lust worthy. I much prefer the G shock designs to traditional high end stuff, and prior to my smart watch I really wanted the MT-G, and some of the mud master and frog man range.
I feel a little sad sometimes, having used mine for work and now they aren't perfect, but ah well 🤷

    • The Amazfit T-Rex has the same look as a G Shock, and is crazy durable. There's a youtube video where this Russian guy dropped it from his apartment, froze it in ice, strapped it to a football, hit it with a baseball bat, and it still kept going. I'm waiting for the Pro version to come out.

      • Ironically the actual T-Rex dinosaurs didn't end up being that durable :(

    • but unfortunately I feel smart watches have killed these off. I haven't worn any of my G shocks in years

I disagree. In the age of too many wearable/portable gizmos that you carry on your person, the last thing I want is yet another device that inherits all of the flaws and issues of modern computers, that I have to charge on a daily basis because of its piss poor battery life, that can freeze/crash/lag on me when I actually need it to work, which requires regular rebooting/updating and still doesn't have all of the functionality/usability of another device that I carry on my person all the time, literally 10cm away from my wrist.

And I challenge you to wear one of your fragile smart watches while regularly going surfing, working on construction sites, downhill mountain biking or camping.

G-Shocks still have a niche all their own.

      • They still have a niche, definitely. But you are very wrong, outdated, or ignorant about smart watches. I wear a Garmin Fenix 5X plus almost permanently, and in a job that used to be dominated by g shocks. Ocean water, enduro and single trail riding, shooting, landscaping, construction, and ceiling work - I've never had an issue with it, and I don't even check it now when I smack it on something. Two weeks battery life with all features enabled. Independent GPS so I don't need my phone for a run or ride. Notifications so I don't need to get my phone out. No lag. No updates. No rebooting.
You do you with what you wear, but my experience with the Fenix has been brilliant.

And, the irony that what used to be my work watches are now relegated to being dress watches is not lost on me. 🤣

        • But you are very wrong, outdated, or ignorant about smart watches. I wear a Garmin Fenix 5X plus

Mate, your Fenix 5X is literally the only exception to that rule and more to the point, it costs as much as a goddamned flagship smartphone so comparing it to most sub-$300 dollar G-Shocks isn't a fair fight and you would damn well expect to it have a sh*tload of features for that money. That's like using a Rolls-Royce Phantom as an example of an average car. The G-Shock Rangeman GPR-B1000 would be a more equivalent counterpart from Casio.

The average Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch/Gear might have a battery life of a day at best and are definitely not rated to withstand anything more than a light sprinkle of water.

Look it's very simple: if I want to use a smartphone, I'll use my smartphone because 1) it's on my person at all times anyway and 2) interacting with a touchscreen UI the size of postage stamp on a smartwatch makes anything that can't be done in 5 seconds utterly frustrating and pointless compared to doing it on a smartphone.

If I want to check the time, use a stopwatch, check different timezones and other strictly chronological-related tasks, I'll use my watch.

Until they make smartwatches that can entirely replace smartphones, have intuitive and incredibly ergonomic control schemes, don't cost a grand to achieve a decent level of functionality and look like normal watches for the most part (I can't stand the look of Apple's or Samsung's range), I'll stick to G-Shocks that I don't have to charge, fiddle around with or worry about their longevity.

No lag. No updates. No rebooting.

Mate, it's a mobile OS. They crash, they freeze and they f**k up because modern software development can't be stuffed to write quality code. I know you're still in the honeymoon phase with your new toy, but it's a fact of life with modern software and there's plenty of evidence online to suggest your Fenix 5 is not immune from that.

Whereas a G-Shock will literally never stop until the battery dies and having had probably 20 of them in my life by now, I haven't ever encountered one that didn't do what it was expected of it 24/7.

In a true survival situation, where I was relying on my watch to navigate or aid my chances, I'd rather have an ABC sensor, solar-powered Protrek than any smartwatch and that says a lot of a timepiece that doesn't cost over $1,000 dollars.

          • @Gnostikos: Two years ain't a honeymoon. I don't restart it, it doesn't lag, it doesn't crash. The Fenix range are a flagship, but you'll find them for good prices.

Like I said, you do you. I'll put it down to denial. 🤷

        • Wow 2 weeks battery? But not when you use GPS right….

          • @CyberMurning: Constantly? No, I don't even know if that's possible, but I do get two parkruns in that.

            • @Rogue01: Omg just see the price…. So lucky to be able to afford it…

  • Looks like their entire range of G-Shocks & Casios is discounted at the moment.
